In a moment of frustration or...sheer stupidity. I decided to cut my own bangs. It's too short and just slightly uneven. Yikes. But it's only hair, right?! It'll grow out and when I have time to go get a hair cut in a few weeks they can fix it.

I cut my bangs every few weeks. I'm not going to pay someone else to do that, unless I'm having a full haircut (which I do like 3 times a year).
I also cut hubby's hair, DS's hair, and the dogs hair.
Good thing no one cares how it turns out but me!

@ValentineMommy: any tips or tricks? I like having bangs but they definitely need trims in between. But like you, I'm not willing to pay for that. Besides, I'm not happy with how the stylists around here cut my bangs/hair anyway. So I'd prefer to wait till I go home to NYC to get a cut.

@regberadaisy: Do you have straight across bangs or the "side swoop"? Lol

Mine used to be across, but now they're the swoop. This is basically how I do it (she has other great random tutorials for doing hair as well) Her video will show you better than I can describe it

oh, ok. That should be easier. If they're the straight ones that kind of angle down the sides a little, and not the super pin straight across, then here's what I used to do.....
pull all your hair back and just let the bangs hang down
grab them all together in a little ponytail in front of your face
cut straight across (just a teeny bit)
when you let go of the little ponytail of bangs, they should angle down the sides pretty nicely
you can repeat that until they're short enough...don't do a ton at a time!!

I cut my bangs (well to be fair, I got the original bang done at a salon and just trim them myself every few weeks) and I also cut LO’s bangs.
I take sections at a time, hold them between my fingers like the stylists do and then just snip, snip, snip my way across. That way I can tell pretty quickly if I'm getting uneven. Then I add a little chunkiness and texture to them by sniping upwards a teeny bit randomly (this is probably a huge hair style no-no though, but whatevs)

Yeah, a couple years ago I cut them straight. I loved it but as I trimmed them up it got more and more uneven. They were a bitch to grow out too!

My current hair stylist and also the last one I went to offered free bang trims in between haircuts. At my current place you don't even have to make a regular appointment -- just text to ask if she has time, and she'll work you in between clients. Might be worth asking wherever you get your hair cut!

Yep. I have. What I did was twist a bit in sections then snip vertically, not across.

I trim them myself. Like @looch: I snip vertically, so you don't get that straight line (that would show if it were uneven)

I trim them myself every few weeks. I do a side sweep bAng so they slant downwards and I've learned to always start at the shorter side and work my way down, not the opposite! I also hold my.scissors vertically as well.

I trim my own bangs. I snip vertically too. I saw a YouTube video that recommended doing it that way so I've been doing it ever since.

I used to trim my own bangs, I paid really close attention to what my stylist did and after a few hair cuts she knew I was trimming them in between and have me some pointers. Always take off less then you think you need to and I would thin them a little and that would help too. It always took me a few days of futzing with them before bed to get them looking OK.
