I was mugged earlier this year womp womp. They got $1k in cash and my Rebecca Minkoff wallet.
Other than that, my parents have had their office burglarized a couple times, and my mom was mugged once.
Have you ever been mugged or robbed?

Nope, I almost got carjacked once though. My very lead foot saved my butt.

My wallet and a few other things got stolen right out of my purse back when I was commuting into NYC. I don't think I had a ton of cash but it still totally sucked. It was a nice wallet and I had lots of photos in there that were irreplaceable.

I came home once to an intruder in my parents house. The cops think I must have come in right behind him because as far as we could tell he didn't have time to take anything.

I had my car rummaged through and an old cd case stolen (full of cd's too!). I think it was some kids in the neighborhood though because they threw out some of the cd's into my yard. Weird. (they got in b/c my back window was broken, so they didn't break a window and my car was locked, even though obviously that didn't change anything)

Yep. Once at knife point and once at gun point. It wasn't fun.

Omg how scary! Thankfully I never have. I have had my car broken into a few times, though.

I haven't, but my dad was robbed several times.
One time, he was followed home (from Detroit) by a guy who stopped my dad when I ran out to greet him. He pulled a gun on my dad and I was in the back of the lot cuz my dad had pushed me out of the way (we lived in a townhome complex) and asked him for his wallet. That guy will forever be engrained in my memories.

Um, I just got an email from my landlord letting us know there was a break-in earlier this week on the other side of the duplex we live in!

@MamaMoose: In the same place! It was at my job when I was in high school. After the second time my mom made me quit.

Never. Someone broke into my apt once in the middle of the night though. He got in bed with me! Luckily I had a roommate (I think he thought I lived alone since my apt was a 1 bedroom).
Scariest thing ever!

My house was robbed. I came in and was like, "I don't remember leaving the lights on. Wow! My cats knocked some things over." Then I realized my back door was smashed in.

I was mugged once. He grabbed my purse. I held on to it. He punched me in the face. I let go. He got $16, a lipstick and my cell phone

I was hijacked once in Africa and had an intruder once in East Oakland (turned out to be a serial rapist). Luckily my dog alerted me to the intruder and I slammed the window on him and ran to lock the back door. I feel like a very lucky girl!

@Leialou: so scary! Where did you work??
@chopsuey119: OMG! That's terrifying! Someone broke into my brother's place & he woke to them standing over him in bed with a flashlight. Fortunately they ran when he woke up. Did you scream? Did they run or did the police have to get him out of your bed? I can't imagine how you could sleep after something do traumatic! I'm so sorry!
I've never been mugged or robbed, thank goodness! I'm surprised how many of you have gone through that.

@Mrs. Bee: Whoa, were you just leaving an ATM or something? Or how did this robber get so lucky to get you on a day you had $1K in your wallet?!
hostess / wonderful honeydew / 32460 posts
@mrs. bird: I didn't scream! It was around 4am and I woke up because I felt someone holding me from the back..! My first thought was.. "what the hell is J (my friend) doing in my bed?!"
So I said whispered her name. The person behind me just held me tighter and freaking moaned.
So I sat up (it still didn't register that someone broke into my house). and said her name louder.
I guess the guy realized I had a roomate, so he got up and walked out of my room.
I have crappy eyes, but could tell that it wasn't my friend. I paused for a second, and got up and followed him! By the time I got to the hallway, he was out the door.
I ran to the door and locked it and woke my friend up. *shudder* We called the cops and I jumped in the shower. Felt so nasty and dirty. I ended up tossing my sheets too.
They caught the guy and turns out he raped a girl a couple weeks before he broke into my place.

The second to last night of our honeymoon in Portugal my purse was snatched, with my money and both cameras and all our honeymoon pics So incredible that nothing like that has ever happened to me in Mexico and then on vacation it happens!

@mrs. bird: I worked at Subway. Right behind the shopping center is a sketchy neighborhood and a small chain link fence separated them at the time. It was easy for the people who robbed us to get away and hide.

I was mugged in Spain. Had my laptop, cash and passport on me. But what my unarmed mugger didn't expect was for me to fight and scream like hell. He wound up getting nothing.
pomelo / 5789 posts
I've been mugged 3 times unfortunately.
One in Baltimore, walking from my car to my door at 2am. Unarmed homeless sketchy guy. I put up a fight and he managed to grab a tote bag I was carrying that had an extra outfit and a Britney Spears CD.
One in Washington DC, coming out of a liquor store. I paid with $100 bill. Two men behind me in line followed us out, put guns to our heads and made us lie on the ground. They stole my purse, containing about $200 cash, my green card, my DL and credit cards. They also took the liquor I'd just bought. Bummer!
Then the last time was about 2 years ago in Fort Lauderdale. Again walking from my car to my door at 11pm, the night before my SO's birthday.
My hands were full, since I'd just came back from an overseas trip and made a stop at the bakery on the way home to get my SO a birthday cake.
The guy hit me from behind, I banged my head on the ground and dropped the cake and my laptop.
He took my purse which contained my camera, my passport, my green card, my drivers license, my credit cards and diamond earrings.
Yet I've been to South America & Mexico a dozen times, including Tijuana alone, and never been bothered once.

I lived in South America for 3+ years, and people from the States always told me how I needed to be extra careful because it was so dangerous down there.
I was robbed once, in Bolivia. By some dirty backpacking Euro hippies, go figure. All they got was a backpack with a book, some costume-y jewelry (nothing valuable), and my camera charger (but no camera). Jerks.
My husband took his shoes off once on a long bus ride and put them in the overhead compartment. When we got to our destination, they were gone. Poor thing had to wear my girly flip-flops for the rest of the trip.
I've been insanely lucky.

Our house was broken into once - found out the day after when the bulkhead was open and our stuff was littered across the yard. Whoever it was came in when I was sleeping and was in my bedroom because they brought my jewelry box down to the basement.
I never would have woken up because DH worked from 10pm-2am as a radio DJ and I was used to him coming home and working really late. He said when he came home that night he thought he heard something in the basement but thought it was the heater. Thank god he came home when he did.

My house got robbed two days after Christmas in college. I was sooo upset because they took the laptop I just bought and I was sooo poor and needed it for school plus I'd put it on my credit card.

ALMOST got pickpocket in Barcelona 2 weeks ago on our babymoon...luckily hubby noticed her hands in his shoulder bag and pushed her away. The gypsies are well trained there and work in teams. They get off very easy for pickpocketing.
It was also our decoy bag...we kept our money and passports on us!
