Did you talk to the neighbour beforehand or did you complain right away? Did the neighbour know it was you?

I have before for noise, I don't think they knew it was me. Unfortunately they didn't end up getting cited bc they quieted down right before the cops showed up. Go figure!!
I didn't talk to them before...they were living in an apartment complex next to ours at the time, it just seemed easier to call the cops first.

Yup. Regularly.
One neighbor was under pinning their basement without a permit. Crazy dangerous. I called the city and they were cited.
Another neighbor tore down their garage and left a huge pile of debris in the right of way. Called and they were fined.
I don't feel bad at all when it's a life safety issue. In both cases I tried talking to the neighbors first but wasn't able to reach them.

Yes, for noise. Spoke to them about keeping the noise down about 5 times. Finally, one night I just got fed up and called the cops on them. Cops came and told them to keep it down or they would get cited. Never heard any noise after that. I'm sure they knew it was me that called. LOL.

I have actually launched an anonymous investigation on one of my neighbours who was clearly dealing drugs out of his house. The old ladies on our street had been watching him for months. I just warned him that I don't care what he does in his house but to keep his "friends" from driving down our residential street like assholes. It continued so I talked to the mayor who forwarded it to the drug squad! I'm that SAHM now.

@winter_wonder: @Mrs.Waffles: noise is definitely annoying! There is a known party house across the street and they actually have given us their phone numbers and give us notice if they are having a big party.
@oliviaoblivia: that's so annoying!! We have a lot of construction in the neighbourhood and I hate it when trucks/garbage blocks the alleyways.
@mrsrugbee: that's really scary. I probably would have gone straight to the police!
I live in a neighbourhood with lots of student renters who don't throw out their garbage properly. They throw garbage into the garbage can without a bag, then they don't put the lid on, and the wind or birds will get the garbage littered all over the alleyways or attract nasty flies. I am not exaggerating when I say it's disgusting. I have spoken to two guys in passing but they don't seem to get it.

@Freckles: they were harmless. Looked like early 20's stoners that were living in mom's spare house. I just didn't like all the traffic they were pulling in on our street, filled with more sketchy teens.

Yea I called the cops on our neighbor (not direct neighbor, a few houses up) on July 4 because they were shooting off LARGE fireworks over our house and 1) they were waking my kid up and 2) the embers were falling on our houses.
I walked up to talk to them but they were having a big party and I didn't even know who owned the house so I just called the cops. Neighbor didn't know it was me I don't think? But if they'd like to know I'd be happy to tell them. And to tell them again-- don't be an effing moron and shoot off huge fireworks in a densely packed suburban neighborhood assholes. (obviously I'm still a bit upset about this....)

Called animal control and the cops on the neighbors several times when we lived somewhere next to people who were the poster children for why pit bulls have a bad name. They literally bred their dogs in the backyard (that was something I can never unsee/hear) and let their untrained and unfriendly dogs roam loose. DH would sometimes call me when I was heading home from work to watch out for them because they would sometimes guard us from our own house. We had some young kids in the neighborhood and I worried about someone getting bit. One of the dogs got hit by a car (was fine) and they didn't even stop letting them roam. So I would call when the dogs were loose and there were kids out, and one time when it was freezing and they had them locked in their unattached garage and the dogs were howling. Never tried talking to them - was too afraid! Once the lady of the house marched up and down the street yelling she was going to kill whoever called the cops (not even sure if it was us that instance, I think other did it as well). They eventually were evicted, that was a beautiful day. They also had a pet alligator, no joke.

We were soo close... They always play loud music well into the night, and one night they had a party and the base was thumping till 3am and my baby was up for 3 hrs. DH went over to ask them nicely to turn it down and they ignored him. We were so so so close to calling, but kept hoping other neighbors would!
