I grew up in NYC and never have been! I have no desire to ever go either. But, when the kids are older it might be fun to take them just once.
Do you want to see it live?

I did when I visited a GF who was going to FIT in the city! I timed the visit for a football game and we fought the crowds to go. Even now, I know we did it, but the memory is very dim!

I haven't, but the year after I graduated high school, the marching band performed in it. I missed it by a year!

My cousin is dancing in this year's parade! I'do go once if I was otherwise going to be there, but I wouldn't say it's a bucket list item or anything. I've done the Chicago and Houston ones once each while there.

@rattles: that's cool! Are you going to watch the parade to catch a glimpse of her?

I have no desire to go. I never even watch on TV. I grew up where we have Mardi Gras, so the parade is more interactive. You get to catch things, etc. I guess I don't see the point of just watching things pass by?

My dad used to take me and my sisters for a bunch of years, then I went a couple of times once I lived in the city. Great memories but now I have no desire. I'll probably watch a little on tv tomorrow.

I really would love to go and would like to see others responses. It's a top thing I would love to do with my kids. Although what I would love to do is rent a hotel room along the route so we can have the option to watch it from there too.

We went when I was about 10 and it was a really fun (but REALLY COLD) experience!

It's actually really fun live. The balloons are so enormous and very impressive. LO1 has already been, but that's because we were invited to an indoor viewing one year. There was another year, pre-kids, when we were outside and had a lot of fun, too. I'll definitely take both kids when they're older and not so against standing in one spot outside... in really cold weather... for a long time, haha!

I was in it! Every year the Universal Cheer Association invites cheering squad captains to participate. My 3 best friends and I got to go our senior year. We marched the entire parade, then performed on Herald Square, with 800 other cheerleaders. It was freezing cold (18° and drizzling rain), and we were wearing cheering skirts, but it was such a cool experience. One of my friends and I went back for the 10 year anniversary of when we were in it and had a blast. We're hoping to all be able to go next year (for our 20th anniversary) and bring our families!

We lived half a block from it when we were younger and never managed to get out of bed in time to see it lol.

My parents took us a few years as kids! We'd get a hotel room along the old route so we could switch between being cold watching it outside and watching it from our warm room. It was an incredible experience! I hope to take our DS someday! I think going as a parent is probably a drag but going as a kid is so different and amazing

I was in the St. Patrick's day parade in NYC ( marching band) but never went to the Thanksgiving Day one.

We were at the balloon inflation tonight and will see the lined-up floats in our neighborhood tomorrow morning. I went once or twice when I was younger!

We saw it in 2007 when we took a trip to NYC. It was awesome, we don't have anything like that at home so I thought it was absolutely brilliant.

I was in it my freshman year of college! It was cold and windy, and I was wiped out because we had rehearsal in the middle of the night but it was pretty neat. I don't think I'd ever want to stand in the cold long enough to watch it, but I like watching on tv for the dance performances.

Yes, I live in the UES so it's just across the park from us. I went once with my mom 4 years ago. It was really cool to see in person, but definitely don't need to do it again. MAYBE once my son is old enough to appreciate it - but then again I don't want him to ask to go every year!

I've seen it once or twice, but only because I happened to be walking nearby and decided to stop and take a look.

@regberadaisy: Also never really had the desire esp since some friends and I tried to go to the tree lighting once in college and that was insane!
I did joke that we should go next year w/both kids - wake up at 4 and hit the city.
I don't think my husband found it very funny

Despite growing up right outside the city and then later living in the city (on the Westside) for 10 years, I never went. I'd maybe bring my son to see the balloons being blown up on Wed night, but those kinds of crowds just don't do it for me!

We lived in NYC for 10 years and never went. But last year after moving out of the city we got dragged there as a family event. It was SO BORING! Standing along the parade route is nothing like the parade you see televised. The marching bands don't perform, no Broadway acts. It's Just a bunch of floats with Long breaks in between.

I have, but I much prefer the balloon inflation the night before.
