Are they awesome???

I have had one! I was expecting it to be disappointing after all the hype, but no- it was AMAZING.

I had one, but they change flavors every week and it was an odd flavor--something like green tea with pineapple topping which was just....odd? I like each of those things separately but not together.
But my mom is coming for a visit soon and she LOOOOVES doing touristy stuff like this, so I think we're going to go again. LO wakes up super early, so it's pretty easy to get out in the line.

@Anagram: They change flavors?? I thought it was just "plain"?
@yellowbird: NYC

I had one from a hotel bakery overseas(which was mediocre), but haven't had any of the "original" cronuts in NYC. My DH's best bud actually got me one a month or so ago (as an apology for keeping DH out late, haha), but DH left it on his desk and a colleague ate it before he got it home to me!

nope, but I'll be in NYC in a couple of weeks, maybe I'll try it then!

Nope, I'm a little curious but I love croissants and donuts just the way they are - is a cronut really better than the sum of its parts?
pomelo / 5257 posts
Nope, I lived in NYC when they were super popular, and no way was I going to stand in line forever for one. But I definitely would have liked to try it if not for the long line situation

I actually prefer the DKA (? I think those are the initials) flaky soft sweet, perfect.

@Mamaof2: i just checked the website and actually it changes monthly. For May, the flavor is " Sweet Clementine and Ricotta". That sounds pretty yummy!

@Mamaof2: DKA
(“Dominique’s Kouign Amann”)
Tender, flaky, croissant-like
dough with a caramelized crunchy crust

Yes, I have had them, not from the famous NY place, but from a supermarket with a really good bakery, of all places.
I want to try the crogels next.

Yes, but it was a bit overwhelming for me as far as sweetness goes. DH liked it.
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
Eh, I've had a bit of the original one and it's a lil too sweet for me. Since then everyone has their own version and it doesn't really do anything for me!
persimmon / 1233 posts
I was way too lazy to get up early and stand in line but I saunter in around 1pm and had a DKA and it was really delicious.

Yup, and I was totally underwhelmed. So not worth the hype. I would have been just as happy with a Dunkin glazed donut.

Yes!! Not the famous/original NYC ones, though. They sell plain and fancy cronuts at many bakeries around here (Los Angeles). All yum
Haven't tried a cruffin yet.

Yes. Not impressed. Both DH and I had the same reaction. We looked at each other, shrugged and said "eh."
grapefruit / 4731 posts
@PinkElephant: What!?! You were so close! Bummers your husband colleague ate it.
I never had one but I have had the fake ones that Dunkin Donut sales and that is pretty good. One of my NY friends that have had the original says it's pretty close.

I don't even know what it is but I hear they're yummy

I had one from Dunkin Donuts, but it was very similar to a French Cruller, and double the price. So it was meh to me.

@bpcmarj: That's the only place I've had them too, but I think they are delicious! Although the cost... not a fan.

I had the Dunkin Donuts version, it was just a big glazed donut, so you can skip that one.
