Ugh! We had to call an hour ago. I was pouring formula into bottles for the babies and I noticed that DD's formula was slightly darker than DS's formula. (They are on different formula.) I asked DH how he made up the formula and he used a different method than he usually does. He said he put 8 oz with 8 scoops!! 😳 That's double the amount of powder! Our formula is the preemie version so it has iron in it. (Does all formula have iron in it?) Plus, we give the babies a multi vitamin at night which also has iron. So I was very concerned about the iron. (Guess I heard about how iron was taken out gummy vitamins because kids would get a hold of it and take a bunch and either die or get very sick by overdosing on iron.)
DD only took one bottle of the concentrated formula but looking at the back of the formula and multi vitamin, it appears she had about 15 mg About 3 hrs from the time of the phone call. She was asleep and we didn't notice anything off about how she was acting. I had no idea what the normal amount of iron is safe and not safe.

I immediately called the on call pediatrician and he said we should call poison control since they would know what amounts of drug/medicine is toxic.

Called poison control and luckily, she was no where near the toxic levels. They said for her size (7 lbs), she would have take 95 mg of iron to see effects. DD might have a upset stomach but her body should take the iron she needs and pee out the rest.

Phew!

Have you had to call poison control?
