Ours doesn't allow kids under 5 in the ultrasound room - so I'd probably have to bring DH and have them wait in the waiting room, which would suck for everyone involved, haha.

I did once, but it was just my one kid who was 2.5. It was at my Ob's office for a routine checkup and he used his small ultrasound machine, so this was not an in-depth check like the anatomy scan. My son loved it, the doctor let him put the gel on my belly and helped him move the paddle around a little bit and showed him what was going on on the screen. I wouldn't want to take my LO to an anatomy scan though. If you have to, definitely take a tablet with videos or games!

I would reschedule the ultrasound. You probably don't want to be going out first thing tomorrow in a snow storm with two kids. Plus the anatomy scan takes so long and can be kind of nerve wracking, even in the best of circumstances. I personally wouldn't want my kids there because I'd feel like I would be frustrated by them and they wouldn't deserve that. Plus, I know my DH would be distracted and I'd want him there and able to concentrate on me and the baby.

@winniebee: maybe it will work out in your favor if someone you know ends up being home from work in the am and can watch the boys!

We brought DS1 to one of my appointments and it was fine. He was so curious and then he just played with his matchbox cars.

We took DD to anatomy scan when she was 3.5. She was interested for a little while and then we just gave her videos on the cell to keep her calm the rest of the time.

I brought my bigger girls. It wasn't my favorite thing in the world but it wasn't the worst. iPads, Doritos, and lollipops helped.
Honestly the worst part was they needed the vag cam and L told everyone about it for a while.

Yes. She was 3.5 and no interest really. She looked at the screen for 1-2 mins and then asked to play a game on my phone.

I never did, only because she was in daycare and my OB was close to work, so I would go to my appts and then head home to work there till the end of the day. Lots of people hadn't their kids in the OBs office - not sure if they were getting ultrasounds though (my OB does ultrasounds there).

I'd just go and take them (unless sitter comes through!). You'll have DH there, and I would just use snacks/iphone/bribes as much as necessary to make it through. They might surprise you! I've taken one/both to a handful of appointments or ultrasounds, and it has been fine (and even good, in some cases!)

@winniebee: would one of their daycare/preschool teachers watch them (either at your place or theirs) in the event of snow?

I took my then 2 and 4 year old to an elective ultrasound slightly before my anatomy scan (expecting them to really think it was cool); they were not interested for very long. I think an iPad would have done the trick, though!

I wonder if things might be slow enough at MFM due to the snow that they could send in an extra tech/nurse to help manage the kids? Could you call and ask? Assuming it's a place that knows your history, I'd think they'd be inclined to help you out (so you don't have to prolong your anxiety), and to make things easier for the t ch, who I'm sure will want to be extra thorough!

ETA: missed that DH is able to be there - you'll be fine, then!!!

We took DS (2.5) to mine a couple weeks ago. We have no family nearby and no sitter, but I didn't want my DH to miss it. He generally doesn't sit still well, but it was early in the morning so he cuddled me on the chair during a lot of it. Then he played on my phone for a bit. My DH had to take him out at the end, which kinda sucked for him, but he didn't miss a lot. It was level 2 and they took a lot of looks at the heart, so it took a while.

Like others said, it wasn't the worst, but it would have been more peaceful without him. It was special for him to see the baby and learn it was a girl though!

Yes, D came to my first one at 8 weeks. It was transvag, but he stayed up near my head and was clueless.

I just had another thought. K is really into stickers right now. If you have to take them, that might be good for R, some stickers to stick on all the things. I'm hoping you find someone but if you have to take them I think it's best to be armed with an arsenal of things to keep R occupied. Depending on the tech, perhaps they will let R get up with you and scan his tummy too. I've been blessed with amazing techs that are supportive if this sort of stuff.

No advice but I just wanted to say good luck at your ultrasound!

I took K to one later on during 3rd trimester (I had them routine every month anyway). It never occurred to us to bring her unless we didn't have anyone to watch her... But we were reading the "waiting for baby book" and one page was mommy getting an ultrasound and every time I asked if she wanted to go with me she said yes so we took her! She was a little creeped out by the dark room and was very concerned that I had to lay down and couldn't move. I think one time was good enough for her haha.
