If you have - when you reserved a room, how long did it take for the owner to get back to you on reserving that date? What happens if they don't get back to you after 24 hours? We attempted to book a room for our trip but haven's heard back from the owners and we will be at 24 hours at noon.

Love AirBnB! Usually the owners respond fairly quickly but we just did a booking a month ago or so and hadn't heard anything within 24 hours so Air BnB cancelled the booking automatically, much to my disappointment. The host sent us a message a short while later apologising for her tardy response and said she'd be more than happy to have us stay, so we just submitted our booking request again and it all went through fine. Our trip is in April and I'm hoping it was just a glitch and not an indicator of problems to come with our stay!

We have used it twice so far and have another booking coming up. The first time it took about 24 hours and with the second booking it took just over. Usually people are quick, but they may not have it set up to alert them of messages and if they are working or its in a different time zone then it might take longer for them to log back in and check messages.

We used it and the owner was super responsive. I think it depends on a lot of factors, though--time zone, their "day job," etc. The host we rented from was very communicative and invited further questions, etc. That made me feel really comfortable.
Once you hear back from them, I'd make a decision based on their response.

@mfa_lady: they have amazing reviews and the house is so cool looking. A friend and I are going and it's the only place we have seen with two double beds in the room. I'm really hoping they will get back to me...I don't want to go back to looking again. Most of the other places we looked at look like dumps.

@mediagirl: It's so easy to fall in love with a place! I'd gauge your comfort level based on their response. If they're like "Hey! Thanks so much! Sorry it took a while, I was at work..." I wouldn't worry at all. If they're short/unapologetic/don't invite more questions, I'd be a little weirded out. Know what I mean?

We have several times. Some listings let you book instantly and others make you wait for confirmation. Usually I hear back within 24 hours. If I don't, I move on to someone else. I once had someone respond after 24 hours and told them I selected another option, which was true.

I had a request cancelled for the first time after no response for 24 hours. I did not request again and found another place.

@Happygal: well, we looked into Alley Light and got a reservation but their menu this week doesn't really appeal to us so we are going to forgo that. Our AirBnB host suggested these restaurants: Lampo, Tavola and Red Pump Kitchen.
We scheduled our wine tour (we are feeling ambitious....):Chestnut Oak, Barboursville, Horton, Castle Hill Cider, Keswick, Blenheim.
Anything else you want to add?

@mediagirl: which month will you be here? I think your list is excellent! Who are you doing a wine tour with? Lampo and Tavola are so good, but do know both are small and don't take reservations (so don't go hungry!) I haven't been to the Red Pump Kitchen yet, but the nice thing about that is it's on the downtown mall, so you can stop for a drink before or afterwards.
