@Cole: thanks for bumping this. I hit my steps goal today, but not the five miles. I have mine on default too. No stairs goal because I have the flex. A little bit of crazed pacing is required for me to reach my goal, haha.

    @rahlyrah: Yay!

@cmomma17: I didn't really intend to supplant you from #1...I just have this January goal of hitting 10,000 steps every day no matter what. *sheep* I'm so determined to lose this baby weight, I don't know what has come over me!

@Cole: My only two goals are 10,000 steps and 50 stairs. I don't care about any others! I'm also not going over my calorie goal...I set it to 1.5 pounds a week, taking into account my activity.

OK I just got back from vacation so I need to pick up a new battery for my FitBit (I just have the zip) and join the group!

Does anyone who uses it run? I am unsure whether to count runs in my daily step goal. I don't wear it when I run, but will manually enter the mileage and it adds up the steps. Would that be cheating for the purposes of this group? Just curious!

    honeydew / 7811 posts

@IRunForFun: I don't think that's cheating at all! I have the flex so if I go run it adds those steps.

I just got a fitbit yesterday. I'm going to join the group! DH's company gave them to us if we pledged to walk 500,000 steps by December.

Bumping since someone posted about this earlier today!

@LindsayInNY: I used to be really active until October, then I fell off the map. I haven't checked it in so long that I'm not certain who is working it in the group. Though, I assume that you can join via the link on the first page. Maybe a 2015 Fitbit group for a fresh start?

Oh I forgot about this!!! I still use my fitbit and am starting to work out more again!!

@Espion: yes! I just got one and was coming to see if anyone else had one and this was on the first page of the boards!

I barely know how to work it and it's been raining every day since I got mine but I want to join a group so we can do challenges!

  12. LindsayInNY

@Espion: I'm game for this group, a new group, whatever! It looks like a good number are still active?

Is there any way to view groups on the app or only through the website?

I'm still out of town visiting family, but I'll see if I can start a group on my laptop when I get back tomorrow!! Yay! Fitbit buddies will totally get my butt moving!

@hellobeeboston: I'm still a Fitbit user. They added challenges where you can challenge friends, etc.

ETA: I clicked on the link to our group. It still works, so everyone feel free to add yourselves to it.

  16. hellobeeboston

    honeydew / 7235 posts

@cascademom: I just saw the challenges today. I've been trying to "connect" with my sis in law but we cannot get it working. I'm mostly using the app now but can't see groups on there. Ugh! Maybe that's where the challenges come in?! Will investigate

  17. cascademom

    coconut / 8861 posts

@hellobeeboston: Yeah, it could be add friends from website group, then see on the app, and do challenges.

  18. Espion

    pomegranate / 3577 posts

@cascademom: I checked the app earlier. It does seem like you can see the "community" on the website dashboard, but you have to specifically add everyone as "friends" on the app to really see everyone. Does that sound about right?

  19. cascademom

    coconut / 8861 posts

@Espion: Yep, that seems about right.

I just joined the group. I think we have share email addresses to become friends and challenge each other. The group discussion board would probably be a good place to do that.

  26. cascademom

    coconut / 8861 posts

@JennyG: You can add friends from the community board as well. You go to the person's profile and do an add friend instead of disseminating email addresses on a public board.

  27. JennyG

    clementine / 912 posts

@cascademom: Can I do that from my phone? Or do I have to be on my laptop?

ETA: Good call, I forgot it was a public board. Duh.

  28. cascademom

    coconut / 8861 posts

@JennyG: Laptop is the only place I can see the communities. The app hasn't added it as a feature.

Is Fitbit worth it? Trying to justify purchase

  30. Espion

    pomegranate / 3577 posts

@BandDmommy: I like it, because I used the Fitbit and the "dashboard" feature to log my calories. I set my calorie goals (you can choose to a half pound, pound, or pound and a half per week) and then logged all my food religiously. I was able to see in real time how active I was and how it was affecting how much I could eat for the day. (If I happened to climb 50 flights of stairs that day, then I "bought" myself a glass of wine for dinner.)

About 98% of the time I was eating more than 1300 calories, which is enough for me not to feel deprived and I ate more when I actually worked out while still maintaining a deficit. (It will actually tell you how many calories you have "left" and you can earn more calories by being active. And if I wanted a glass of wine, I actually pre-logged it to account for the calories ahead of time so I could govern my choices better during the day.)

It is how I lost 20 pounds last year from Thanksgiving to New Years when I finally gave up on breastfeeding. (I was too scared to diet before then.) And I did it by logging 10,000 steps, 50 flights of stairs (we have one flight in our house), and doing 20 minutes of squats/push-ups, etc. per day. No aerobics. No running. Totally doing it again after this kid is out.

My only complaint is that the food database kind of sucks, but I think you can link up My Fitness Pal food database and accomplish the same thing. I haven't tried it though. And they may have updated the food database since last year.

I never actually joined, and haven't used my FitBit in forever...mostly because it depressed me that I never reached 10,000 steps. Might have to join now and start using it again...

  32. Espion

    pomegranate / 3577 posts

@IRunForFun: Oh girl, I drove DH crazy because I would pace around our kitchen island. Some days, it was the only way I reached 10,000!

  33. cascademom

    coconut / 8861 posts

@Espion: LO has a game where we chase each other around the kitchen island with mops or brooms. It always helps with the steps.

I just joined! My battery needed to be charged so I took my fitbit off a few weeks ago and "forgot" to put it back on. The holidays were not kind... time to get back on the wagon!

Can someone who is an avid fit bit user help out a newbie with questions?

I just ordered the Fitbit Charge HR and since its preorder it going to be another few weeks before i actually get it in my hands. However, I wanted to start getting back in the habit of logging my food.

Many moons ago i religiously used My Food Diary .com which is a great resource but has fallen by the way side of technology. Their website is great but the app is less than desirable and its $9/month. Any way, I created an account on Fitbit so i could see my dashboard and start logging food. I also have an (inactive) account at my fitness pal and lose it. What's the best way to do this? I'm already hitting road blocks on the fit bit log in that I can't make "recipes"

  36. swurlygurl

    honeydew / 7091 posts

@Chillybear: I'm using My Fitness Pal and after I linked them together it brings my caloric totals over to the Fit Bit app.

ETA: And the Fit Bit steps also show up in My Fitness Pal

  37. Chillybear

    pomegranate / 3032 posts

@swurlygurl: How do you go about linking them? I cant seem to find the setting in the fit bit dashboard

  38. swurlygurl

    honeydew / 7091 posts

@Chillybear: Go to the MFP app, click on the 'More' tab at the bottom, then select 'Steps', then add a device. It had to log in a couple different times, it took me to Safari where I had to log in to each site... it was a clunky process, but it ended up working

How do I find everyone on the app? I have been using mine but have no idea how the extra things work! I would live the motivation from hither people

Ok next question.... I joined the HB group. How would i go about finding other friends or groups is there a "you may now this person" tab?
