We are flying from San Francisco to Charleston, SC on Sunday and we just realized we did not ever get DD's birth certificate! She is 8 months old. We have her social security card & certificate from hospital stating her name and that we are her parents. Do you think we will be okay???
I couldn't imagine missing Christmas with my family :'(

I'm doing some research for you, but it looks like the biggest issue is proof of age as babies must be under 2 to be lap infants. I'll keep searching.

I've been looking at it doesn't say that a cert. is required, but try giving these people a call:

I've flown nearly all the major airlines and only ever been asked a couple of times. I've never been asked by security, only the check-in counter.
FYI Southwest absolutely requires it. They will not let you fly without a birth certificate or some other form of ID.

You don't need it unless your baby might be confused for a two year old. You will need a boarding pass for your baby.
We've flown twice with LO on United and were never asked.

We've been asked for a copy of the both certificate before and LO is clearly not 2 yet. I've been told you can use shot records as well.

I just flew internationally and wasn't asked for it, just her passport. I think you'll be okay.

We flew when DD was 2 and no one asked to see it either.
