My birthday isn't near a holiday at all but my son's is between Thanksgiving and Christmas. So far we've made a big deal of both of his birthdays so I think we'll keep doing that. Hopefully he won't feel overshadowed. He was actually born Thanksgiving weekend but sometimes Thanksgiving is earlier so at least it won't be every year!

My birthday is one of those things that I never made a big deal over, even as a kid. It's in August, and as kid, no one was ever around that time of year, lol. I had a few parties, but nothing crazy. Now, I don't even publish my birthday on FB, I don't want anyone to make a big deal about it and I go about my day as normal.

    Is that weird?

Groundhogs day. Since it's a ridiculous holiday, it never really bothered me! My kids were born two days before Thanksgiving, so that might get a bit interesting for them as they get older.

DH's birthday is very close to Christmas, and he really dislikes it. His family did a good job of separating birthday parties and Christmas, but he's always felt like it was overshadowed.

My birthday is New Year's Day.

Growing up, I both liked and hating having a birthday on a holiday. I liked that I never had school, but I also hated that I never got to celebrate my birthday at school. We'd always have little parties for kids on their birthday, and since mine was a holiday, I never got that. And no one would wish me happy birthday before/after either, so it felt largely forgotten.

In college and after (pre-kids), I also both liked and hated it. I like that I never have to work on my birthday. But having a NYD birthday SUCKS when it comes to partying with your friends. Everyone's hung over from NYE and no one wants to get together with you. And on my 21st birthday, all the bars were closed.

Now that I have kids, I don't mind it anymore. No one has to work/go to school so the whole family is together for my birthday. And most of my friends have kids, so they aren't partying as much either, so getting together for brunch with our kids is totally doable.

My birthday is June 14th which I'm sure all of you know as flag day! So it is technically a holiday, bot not really, so I always found it sort of fun Clearly didn't overshadow the momentous occasion of my birth!

LO1's birthday falls near Easter sometimes, and LO2's birthday is 3 days after Halloween. It's actually nice to have a birthday near Easter because we usually get together with DH's family and can celebrate both. It's a little hectic for LO2 because I have to prepare for Halloween and then take everything down to get a birthday celebration in place. I treat the two completely separate though.

@Pumuckl: @looch: very interesting about August!! @looch: I don't think it is weird. I actually don't like getting attention for my birthday ... Not sure if it is because my parents never made a big deal about it or it is just my personality but I also don't post it on Facebook (I don't use Facebook anymore but my abandon account doesn't have my birthday) so most of my friends don't actually know my birthday. Ha! Self filling prophecy.

@Adira: Ah interesting you went from disliking it to liking it!!! That is cool.

@petitenoisette: LOL!! Flag day is legit!

This year, my birthday is on Father's Day. It will be DH's 2nd father's day (DS will be 21 months) Knowing DH, he will want to ignore father's day entirely and focus exclusively on my birhtday....but knowing my mother, we will be expected to have a big 'fathers day' dinner with them to celebrate my dad.

Oh that's interesting, my birthday is also really close to (and sometimes on) Mother's Day and I have zero memory of conflict or overshadowing when I was growing up. I guess my mom just made a really big deal out of my birthday whereas Mother's Day was pretty clearly a smaller event.

Now that I am a mother, I am looking forward to years of celebrating a double holiday weekend for the two together It's ALL ABOUT ME

#1 for us is due in October... right between Thanksgiving and Hallowe'en. I'm kind of hoping s/he will show up right in the middle and manage to avoid them both!

Well, my birthday is May 5 so I've always shared it with all of Mexico. my DD1's bday is 4/28 and these days her birthdays is definitely a way bigger deal than mine! And of course right after is Mother's Day. I don't really mind or care TBH.

Neither my husband nor I do, but our first baby is due at Christmas, so I find everyone's answers very interesting and I'm learning what not to do for baby! haha.

My brothers and I all have holiday(ish) birthdays - Valentine's Day, Easter (1st birthday and a few since) and New Years Eve.

As a teen and young adult, I didn't like it because my friends were busy or cranky that they weren't, and we couldn't get a big table at a restaurant without an overpriced set menu, so we usually ended up at places like Indian buffets instead. I didn't care as a kid though, and now with a family, I like it. Everyone remembers my birthday, and I have sweet little heart shaped jewelry, ornaments and whatnot that family members have gifted over the years with my birthday in mind.

My kids have November and December birthdays, but I don't think that's a big deal.
