Weigh in!! If we have a boy Holliday will be his middle name. If we have a girl, well she has no name at the moment. Holliday is a family surname and I want to use it on my first born. What do you think of Holliday as a girl's name? Most likely we/ people would call her Holli. With our last name her name would have an alliteration ring to it similar to January Jones which I love. As far as college admission applications and resumes go I imagine her using Holli Last or H. Middle Last.

That's a really special, fun name! I love the full name, but I know *personally* I'd probably call her "Holli" most of the time. I'm a NN user!
I would totally support "Holliday" on applications. It's so fancy! 
Soooorrrryyyy for the long comment ... My husband's family's name rhymes with Holliday (spelled the same, too, with a different first letter), and his poor mom had a custom holiday sign made that says, "Happy Hollidays!" -- she won't ever live it down.

@Autumnmama79: because we are not on the same page for girls names at all. My husband is a "Kiera" guy and I'm a "Samantha" gal. What's the middle ground? With Holliday at least the name will be meaningful.
ETA: if we can agree on a first name where we both like the name Holliday can easily slide in as middle.

Random comment but my friends name is April and everyone asks her if she was born in April. She hates it. Hopefully, ppl won't ask if she was born near a holiday?
Another friend has a name of Georgia. It's an old family name for her. We live in Georgia and growing up she got teased a lot.

I love the family meaning, but I think it will be a lifetime of misspellings, everywhere your LO goes.
I'm also not a fan of giving a name with the expectation your LO will change it for resumes. What if they don't want to go by their middle name?
I also wouldn't give a baby the name or nn Holli unless they were born right around Christmas.

I wouldn't use it for a first name because I think it will be misspelled constantly and that gets really old really fast. But I think it would be fine for a middle name.

I have a name that sounds one way, but is spelled another ... I guess people have misspelled it, and still do from time to time, but it's never bothered me.
What did bother me is that people would mispronounce it a lot when I was younger. I don't think you'll have that issue.
Further, my name is kind of like Holliday, where it correlates to something else it sounds like ... again, maybe kids made fun of me when I was younger, but it really wasn't a big deal at all. *I'd share my name, but it's so rare, and I'm a crazy-person about privacy.
If you love it, and it's meaningful, I think you should go with your heart.

@sera_87: @yoursilverlining: @Mamasig: until my great uncle (my grandma's bro) died recently I had been spelling it with one name. Then, when I saw his obit I realized there was a double L. It took me a few weeks to quietly get over the spelling.
@yoursilverlining: I'd think a Christmas Holly/ Holli or Noel/ Noelle would be a bit weird, but not one born in the Spring.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: Haha ... I have a WEIRD NAME! Both my first and last names are actual words in the dictionary, and both are spelled differently than the actual words. It's super-super uncommon ... I'm the only one in the world, or else I would share!
The family name I was talking about before is "Solliday" (it's my huband's mom's maiden name).
It's seriously not a big deal to have a name that people don't always understand. And "August" is perfect. I'm weird and would probably just pick "August Holliday" for a girl or a boy.

I like it as a middle name for boy or girl. Not really a fan of it as a first name.
Fwiw we are having a December baby and I turned down Holly because I feel like it would be too corny so close to the holidays (plus it's REALLY alliterative with our last name, like way too much).

I think it's a pretty name. It makes me think of the actress Holliday Grainger. I'm also from a place where a lot of people use surnames as first names so I like the family connection.

I'm a sucker for family names, so I love it. It reads feminine to me because it reminds me of Audrey Hepburn and Breakfast at Tiffany's (Holly Golightly's full name was Holiday). I hope you use it!
ETA: I don't think the admissions thing is an issue. Names are diverse these days, and surname names are so popular. It doesn't strike me as a frivolous name, and I'm usually pretty sensitive to that.

I knew a Holiday, she's lovely and a bit quirky in a good way. I like the option for Holli as a nickname. Personally, I think I prefer it as a middle name but in your shoes I would likely put it first too!

I like it! Unique, but still pronounceable. And as someone whose name is misspelled more often than spelled correctly, spelling doesn't really concern me. It's never bothered me
