So we've done this twice before. Both times we left home at bedtime and he slept in the car on the way to the hotel/destination, and arrived around midnight. We would bring him in to the hotel, he'd wake up, and once we were settled in to the room we'd start the process of trying to get him to sleep.

At home, we do our bedtime routine and put him down completely awake in his crib and he falls asleep on his own, so I'm pretty much completely baffled as to how to get him to fall asleep in a hotel.

Once we brought a pack and play, and he basically stood up in it for about an hour and wondered what the heck was going on, crying on and off. Eventually he must have fallen asleep because when I woke up in the morning, he was asleep.

The second time, we put him in the bed between us. He crawled around for quite a while (at least an hour), and we both laid down and pretended to sleep, but he would not stay still... I'd open one eye to check on him and he'd be in my face with a big old grin. It was cute, but so stressful at the time. Again, he must have fallen asleep at some point because I woke up in the morning and he was asleep, perpendicular to us near our knees. (He rolls a lot him his sleep so I was SO afraid he'd fall off the bed!! I put pillows EVERYwhere.)

We have another quick trip coming up (each of these trips are just for the one night) and we're planning on having him in the bed with us again, but I'm still so stressed out. I'm wondering how the rest of you deal with hotel trips if you don't normally co-sleep?
