I'm Jewish.... so that obviously doesn't bother me. Chanukah is super early this year, I think before Thanksgiving even, so as long as LO stays put we will be celebrating before the baby comes. We usually go to a theme park on Christmas but obviously won't be doing that this year. I'm never planning on grouping LO's birthday with Chanukah, they will always be separate no matter when Chanukah falls, which I know will often be on her birthday.

My cousin (will be 12 this year) is a Christmas baby. I know he gets annoyed sometimes that he has to share his birthday. Because we TTC for over a year, I'd just be happy to have a healthy baby, but I know there's a lot of scheduling conflicts when it comes to birthday parties, etc.
This baby has a chance of being a Thanksgiving baby if he's a week late. DH was born on Thanksgiving and I don't think it really bothers him too much.

I was really happy that we got pregnant when we did and have a Thanksgiving baby. I wouldn't have wanted to skip trying the next cycle (we had a previous m/c and were ready for a baby) but I would have felt bad for baby if she had to share her bday with Christmas. Thanksgiving is ok with me since it's not a gift giving holiday!

All things being equal, I'd rather not have a Christmas baby, so the kid wouldn't have to share their birthday and get lost in the shuffle, but it also wouldn't bother me very much. I don't know that I would have held off trying if it came down to it.

It was the one time of year I really didn't want to have a baby. I'm due December 21. Guess who can't do basic math? DH is thrilled because he was hoping for a December baby, but he's from a country where very few people celebrate Christmas so the holiday doesn't really mean much to him.

I didn't want one. I just feel bad. DH's birthday is Jan 3 and he hates it. He claims he is "all celebrated out" by that point. Of course, I'm due Jan 5. Which would mean I'm in the clear, but it'll be a c-section so I'm looking at a Dec 30/31 birthday. Though not Christmas, I just don't want people to forget or not celebrate this baby's birthday as s/he gets older.

I'd rather not...I have a December birthday and it sucks! Everyone always forgets because so much holiday stuff goes on around it.

Personally, I really didn't want LO to have a Christmas or NYD birthday. I don't want her day to get missed! She ended up being born 1/10 and I think(/hope) it's far away enough from the holidays.

I wouldn't mind an early December baby just because the season is so cheery but as far as being busy, broke etc that would be a bummer.

We ended up having a NYE baby because she came a month early. I hope she doesnt grow up to hate it! My Moms is July 4th and she loves it, she seems to think all the festivities are just for her

My birthday is a few days before Christmas and it has it's
pros and cons. I generally don't like it but my parents always did a bang up job of making sure my birthday and Christmas felt separate. The people who are all like 'Hey, I got you one combination present!' suck though. If you're going to do a combo, just don't bother with either. -
@MamaBehr: if I were you I'd do Dec 31st! That's a party holiday so especially when baby is older he/she will love it I think!

I wanted to avoid Christmas babies. I always feel bad for people whose birthdays get combined with Christmas. My dad's birthday is December 17th and his ends up that way.

DS is a Dec 29 baby and #2 should be right before Christmas. The holidays are not important to me, so I don't mind. However, as far as the zodiac is concerned, I get along really well with Sagittarius and Capricorn signs, so I'm happy I'll have one of each.

I am also Jewish, but dh is not, so we celebrate both holidays. December just ends up being a month of fun, and I'm looking forward to adding baby's bday to the mix!! That said, I'd prefer not Xmas day, just because the one of the baby's only cousins (so far) was born that day!

My daughter is a day after Christmas baby. I think it's a little hard because everyone is so busy with the holidays that it's hard to plan a birthday party. But otherwise, it's great and we make sure we celebrate Christmas and her birthday separately.

My brother was born on Christmas Day and we are Christian. To him, it was never a big deal. We always celebrated it Christmas afternoon. At least he was always off school on his birthday! It's not what I would pick, but I don't think it's the end of the world.

@grizz: my DH is at the end of December and I've always made sure to get two totally separate presents and wrap the birthday present in birthday paper... He said the exact thing you did the first time we talked about when our birthdays were.

I'm a mid December baby and I always loved it! As long as parents make sure to celebrate them separately it's no big deal. I always felt like the whole month was a celebration. As far as parties you don't have to have one right on their birthday if it's too close - and a few weeks in between is like an eternity to a little kid.

I like having my birthday close to Christmas. Yes, it gets forgotten by friends, but birthdays aren't a big deal to me. My family was always together, and it helped to ease any post-Christmas blues knowing my birthday was right around the corner!
A family member had a baby in December, and it was really sweet to have a new baby to hold and be all cozy with inside.

My birthday is the week after Christmas, and it sucks. Everyone is always so consumed with Christmas that it always seems like an afterthought in the post holiday hangover.

I have a December 21 baby and I really like it. Hope he does, too, when he gets older. It's such a fun and festive time. We celebrated his first birthday early in December before people got all caught up in the holidays, and his second birthday was the day we arrived to the U.S. from Mexico for the holidays. So we got to be around lots of family. The only problem was after Christmas he was asking where the presents were! He got used to getting presents all the time during that season, hahaha.

I think there are pros/cons, but all the Christmas-time babies I know have told me "it's horrible!" so that scares me! I wouldn't plan a baby for that time probably, but it wouldn't necessarily stop me or majorly upset me. I'd really try to find a way to make it special for them.

had a nov 21 baby... would most likely have skipped the next cycle if we didn't get pregnant. i didn't really think twice of it, but my bff at work is a christmasttime baby and she said she hated it. so i took her advice. will try to "avoid" chrstimas babies in the future.

My DH's birthday is December 22, and he has never liked it being so close to Christmas. His mother did a good job of making sure his birthday was celebrated. I try my best.

My birthday is Dec 28 and the only complaint I ever had was that we didn't get to celebrate it at school. My grandmother's birthday was Christmas day and we always made sure to celebrate it separately and had a birthday themed cake that didn't include any red or green coloring.

My bday is a few days before christmas and I've always hated it. My parents always made it separate from christmas but most other people didn't and that stinks. DS2's bday is 3 weeks after christmas and that's as close as I wanna get. People thought I was crazy when I was pregnant with him and hoping to be 2 weeks overdue to keep his bday away from christmas lol.

We don't really celebrate Christmas except for a big family dinner, so it wouldn't bug me at all. We don't do very much on birthdays either. As for how LO would feel about it, it seems like such a first world problem to me, I know I would not put up with him/her complaining about it.

I wouldn't like it - I know a few people who either have a birthday on or w/in a day of Christmas, and they never really get to do anything because all of their friends are with their families.

My sister is a Christmas Eve baby and hates it - as a kid she always received combined presents and felt people were more excited about celebrating Christmas than her birthday. My mom would also have to plan her party either two weeks before or after all the holiday madness so friends could attend.

My birthday is Dec 20th and I aways liked it. Im not a huge birthday person though. My parents and ow DH always do a good job of keeping birthdays separate from Christmas.

@Mrs. Champagne: one of my good friends has a NYE birthday and everyone always has plans for NYE, so she celebrates her birthday in early January.
My baby's birthday is December 17 (also my brother's birthday). I LOVE having a Christmas baby. I will never forget getting so exciting when the mall holiday decorations went up in October when I was pregnant. Hearing the first Christmas song on the radio, waiting for him to be born. Every time I heard "All I want for Christmas is you" on the radio, I would bawl (hormones! lol). Having DS around the holidays made everything more special about that time of year for me. I want it to always be special for him, too.

I'm a New Years baby, our son is a week later. I have no problems with it other than the expense around the holidays and wanting to keep any more future kids out of December/January so we can spread the birthdays out a little.

My sister's birthday is eight days before Christmas. My parents did a good job of keeping them separate, making sure people gave her gifts for both (no 'combo gifts' in our house or my mother would do the same for you, regardless of when your birthday was). As a young kid it was hard for me since it seemed like she got double the presents, but as I grew older, it mattered less.

My brother and I both have holiday birthdays (NYE and Valentine's) and neither like sharing the actual day itself. But i would never try to avoid the whole season or month! My sister has a December birthday with no problems, and LO was born 12/1. It was so much fun to have her then! I'll never forget hearing "O Holy Night" on the radio as we drove to the hospital at midnight or singing Silent Night over and over during all those endless newborn nights. It adds another layer of meaning to the season for me. I hope she'll enjoy that everyone's in a celebratory season and mood over her birthday! And, on a more personal note, it really strengthened my prayer life and experience of the Nativity this year to be on that journey at the same time.
