@MrsBrewer: I've heard it can be years. I think it is longer the longer you nursed. I weaned at 12w pregnant so mine actually dried up very fast due to the hormones! But I was down to nursing just 2x a day on one side, so I didn't have much milk anyway (never was engorged).

I never got more than a few drops after weaning. I was never engorged after either so I probably didn't have much milk left.
I weaned my first at fifteen months and my second self weaned at ten months(I was seven months pregnant.)

You so don't want to hear this, but I nursed my girls for 8 months and 12 months, respectively....both times, my milk didn't fully dry up until I was pregnant again. I'm currently pregnant with #3, and I just noticed maybe a month ago (once I was WELL into my second trimester - I'm 27 wks currently) that I could no longer hand express any milk/never found dried milk residue in my bra cups (sorry if that's TMI). I agree with others that my chest shrunk back to normal, but the milk ducts still seemed to be functioning.

It was never an amount that was worrisome/messy, but it is kind of crazy - I did have oversupply with both girls and had to wear breast pads for leaks for many many months - probably until they dropped down to 1-2 feeds per day.
