I would not pay any postage. On the rare circumstance I have received something, I just write "FORWARD" on it and put it back in the mailbox.

2.5 years is plenty.

Yeah, I would long since have quit. It was nice of you, but you shouldn't have to waste your time or money on it.

Wow weird. I know when we moved, we setup mail forwarding with the post office for ourselves. I just write "moved" on mail for the previous owner.

We rarely get mail for the previous owner, who passed away (the house was sold by her estate). If it's junk, we just toss it but if it looks important we'll contact her son to find out if he wants/needs it. We've owned the house for 2.5 years and had to do this only 2-3 times, so we don't mind. In your situation, though, I'd just return the mail to the sender and let them deal with it.

The previous occupant asked us to forward their mail and we did for 3 months and then we decided that was sufficient time for them to change their address wherever necessary. Also when we forwarded, we just stuck it back in the post with their new address on, so if there were any charges they would incur them when the mail was delivered.

@spaniellove: I usually just write forward on the envelope and drop it back in our mailbox and let the USPS deal with it! But after 2.5 years I would probably call the post office and complain?

That happens to us too. The previous owner lives in the same city, so they are forever wanting to stop by and get it. It is really annoying and now I'm doing return to sender. They need to change their address.

We've never forwarded mail for the previous owners and we get at least one thing a day. I figure that if he failed to forward his own mail he can deal with not getting it.

If it's junk mail, I throw it out. If it looks important, I write "Not at this address" and return it to sender.

It's the other person's responsibility to forward mail and change their address with their own accounts. Not mine.

I wouldn't do it at all. He should change his address with the post office. Just write "Return to sender" and put it back into your mailbox. You are being taken advantage of.

like, 2-3 months tops. I'd start just tossing his mail and not returning his calls, if he calls you. Honestly its sort of weird he even talks to you guys. I would not want to have any sort of dialogue with the former owner of a house i live in.

Why the heck wouldn't your mailman take outgoing mail? No tip for Xmas!! I always cross out the address and write return. They take it.

@spaniellove: I'd call and complain to your local PO that your carrier isn't picking up mail, and also letting them know that they're no longer at your address and you don't want any more mail from them. Anything that comes should get return to sender without the mail carrier making it more difficult for you.
