How many nieces/nephews are you buying a gift for?

Since there's only one 4 month old niece right now, we're getting her a cute set of pajamas I found on clearance. Next year I'm going to push for not giving gifts to nieces/nephews because we'll eventually be like oliviaoblivia's family!

Ironically it is a source of tension in my husband's gift-obsessed family because his mom and sister still get presents for all the nieces/nephews (and their spouses!) and want to stop but neither are willing to talk about it

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: we have the regular seat. It's been a toy that has grown with my girls and because it's so open ended they play with it in different ways. My 14 month old puts it upside down and hides her toys underneath it , puts her toys in to spin, and she sits in it. My 3 year old uses it to be a monster (puts it on her head lol), rock her dolls, give her magic clips baths, spin in it and stand on it like "rock". It's an amazing imaginative toy that they are constantly finding new uses for as their imagination develops.

One niece and five nephews on DH's side, ranging from 11-20. We send them each $20 on birthdays and hanukkah. On my side, 2 year old
and 4.5 year old nephews. I've been thinking of starting a tradition of sending my sis a check for their college funds but I guess I should send toys too! It's hard because we live far away and i don't know what they already have...

I only have two nieces and we bought for both.
2.5 year old girl: book and wooden train
10 month old girl: book and baby doll

The books will be from us and the toy from DS to them.

There is one niece and nephew on DH's side but they don't exchange gifts, so nothing there.

    16. But what we have done on both sides of the family this year is we each give 5 pounds to each child and then the parents use the total to buy a bigger gift, save it or spend it on a Christmas experience. We used the money to take the kids on a Santa train. So far everyone is loving how much money it has saved us all!!!

    We have one 3 year-old niece. We also buy for our cousins' kids, they are a 5 year-old boy, a 3 year-old girl, 2 year-old twin boys, and a 1 year-old boy.

3 year-old niece: A couple of outfits, 2 pairs of pajamas, a Barbie car, and a Barbie
3 year-old girl cousin: 2 pairs of pajamas and a Barbie
5 year-old boy cousin: Lego set
2 year-old twin boy cousins: a Little People schoolbus, a Little People helicopter, and a Little People superhero figure pack
1 year-old boy cousin: a Little People tractor and an outfit

We don't have any LO's of our own yet so I have a lot of fun buying for our niece and our cousins' kids.

8! And there will be 9 next year. There are 6 girls and 2 boys, ages 6-18. Everyone gets $25 spent on them to keep it "fair." Everyone over 10 is getting gift cards. 2 nieces received American girl doll playsets and my nephew is getting a video game.

I would love to start drawing names for the older ones at least.

We have 3 nieces (soon to be 4) and 2 nephews.

On DH's side, the kids get a pair of pjs and a toy. The goal is $25/ kid (ages 8, 7 and nearly 2).

On my side, my nieces are 4 and just 1. I'm making them each a dress up skirt (and one for my daughter) and my daughter picked out a toy for the 4 yo and the youngest is getting a pair of pedipeds.

@travelgirl1: I suppose that only works really well for a large group? Or I suppose for a smaller group you could give a larger amount of money?

  27. travelgirl1

    cantaloupe / 6630 posts

@JennyD: well even though there are eight kids (plus my two) on each side of the family, there are only three aunts on my side in contrast to six on DH's, so each kid will get 25 pounds from DH's side yet only 15 pounds from mine, but we still thought it was worth doing on my side. 15 pounds isn't much but it can buy one nice gift.
