Mine go up, not down. So, I accumulate 18 hours a month of sick + vacation (10 vacay, 8 sick). So about 2ish a month. Right now I have 3 weeks accumulated, and I'm hoping to accumulate 3 more before LO comes! Will probably still have 2 weeks unpaid.
Trying really hard not to take any sick days, and it's hard! I want to stay in bed

@Bookworm: I remember that feeling but it is worth it to save as much as you can! Just think that when you are dealing with postpartum stuff, a newborn, and sleep deprivation you will be happy to have sick days!
nectarine / 2797 posts
10 a year at full pay and 10 a year at partial pay (the idea is we accrue a bunch of the partial pay days and use them insted of STD if we are ever out for an extended period of time). I've never used a sick day except on maternity leave!

I don't get a certain number, I can use as many as needed as long as I still get my work done. I'm salary so I guess as long as I don't abuse it, anything goes!
pineapple / 12802 posts
@MrsBrewer: Yup, same here. As long as I don't abuse it, I can have as many as needed. Although after 5 days in a row, I need a doc note.
coconut / 8854 posts
@.twist.: I don't even know when I would need a note! My work is pretty relaxed about hours. But I'm sure 5 days off and I would need a note then! hahah!
GOLD / cantaloupe / 6581 posts
@Thehistoryofus: Yep!! I spent half an hour yesterday trying to figure out a combination of working/not working/DH going in late so I can stay home 8 weeks. Good grief! I'll be glad I have as much as I do!

i get 17 days off a year both sick and vacation time combined. Doesn't feel like enough
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
We get 80 hours of sick time a year. If we don't use it, it goes into "Banked Sick" which was can then use for Short-Term Disability coverage.
coconut / 8234 posts
I get 60 (because I've been here more than 5 years). Under 5 years gets 40 sick days. After using 10 days in a row you have to give in a doctor's note and if it's going to be longer you might have to apply for short-term disability.

We don't have sick days, we just have a bank of paid time off which is both sick and vacation. I get 3 weeks of PTO/per year + 2 additional days which are "floating holidays".
wonderful olive / 19353 posts
Technically, I guess 5? They're considered personal days and don't roll over each year. Otherwise, if I'm ill and want time off, I have to use vacation time off.
hostess / wonderful persimmon / 25556 posts
I get 20 days of PTO plus 2 floater days. I can roll over 5 days from the previous year if I don't use them. In another 2 years, I'll get 5 more days.

No sick days for me since I am a SAHM, but DH accumulates a day of sick and/or vacation days every week he works. He can rollover his time too, which is great.

12 sick days and 10 vacation days. We can also use our sick time to go to doc appointments which is nice.
wonderful grape / 20453 posts
About 2 and a half weeks a year. We accrue hours weekly. We get a ton of sick time, but once a year they remove half of those hours. Half goes into your bank and half just disappears. So you can keep accruing.

9.33 hours sick leave every month & 8 hours vacation time. I had 4 weeks saved up & then I got sick & had surgery. Pretty much starting from scratch. Im not pregnant yet so I have some time to rebuild but it would take me a year to save up for 5 weeks of leave. I think we can have up to 240 vacation & 960 hours sick. I've been here almost 10 years and have never been able to hold on to my leave time! Thank God we have family medical leave!

I get 20 sick days + 3 weeks of vacation. The good thing about the sick leave is that it is constantly re-accumulating. So, if I use all of it (like I did on maternity leave), I'll get back about 3 hours each pay period.

No sick days. I have to use vacation time if I have to be out sick.
honeydew / 7488 posts
My sick days come out of my PTO. It sucks! Which is why I'm currently at -9 hrs vacation.
pomelo / 5331 posts
5. At my last job, our sick and PTO were combined so if we needed to take 3 weeks of sick time we could (we just would have blown all our vacation in the process). I preferred that to designated sick and vacation time that can only be used for specific things. I dread later this year when I have an LO in daycare who's constantly getting sick and getting me sick and I only have 5 days to work with. I used 6 sick days last year just being pregnant! (they gave me the 6th one as a gimme without taking away pay).

I just had a job interview where I would start at 3 weeks vaca, 5 days sick that can accrue, and 5 days for CE. After two years I'd get 5 weeks vaca. Much better!!

I don't get any paid sick days. If I take a day off, it's coming out of my pocket.
eggplant / 11716 posts
This is my first year at a new school, so I have nothing accrued. I get 10 sick days, 4 personal days, and 10 family leave or bereavement days.
I think that's a LOT, considering at my old school, we got only 5 sick days and 5 personal days a year. In both districts, unused days roll over to the next year.
Not bad for working only 9 months of the year. Benefits of moving to a strong union state I guess!

I don't know for sure (isn't that terrible?) I don't take very many but I've never gotten to the point where anyone has said that I've run out.
wonderful pea / 17279 posts
My sick and vacation is combined as PTO, I get 26 days, but every year I have been carrying over 5 days. Really its 31 days.
wonderful cherry / 21504 posts
We just have paid time off, which can be sick, personal, vacation. I think my company is pretty generous with that-- I have 28 days this year. I need to figure out how that factors into maternity leave and short term disability but I think it's pretty good for the US.
wonderful cherry / 21504 posts
@MRS. LEMON-LIME: Yeah, I carried over 6 days, so really I have 34 to use this year, but I have to use the carry over by end of March.
pomelo / 5791 posts
We accrue leave per pay period and I have no idea what it adds up to. I get 6 hours of sick leave every 2 weeks.
apricot / 286 posts
We get 12 sick days per year..and I've been at my company for 8 years. While going through my maternity leave benefits with HR last week, found out that i have 71 sick days accrued that I could use... woot woot!
coffee bean / 48 posts
No such things as sick days for all the companies I've worked for. You take what you need, then it escalates to short-term then long-term disability.
pomelo / 5132 posts
8 sick days, 2 personal days, no vacation (just when the students are on vacation)
