Today my midwife said she would be fine with 35-40 lbs! Last pregnancy I gained 30 and any more than that seems like too much for my frame since I'm 5"2

My doc said up to 30... I would like to be closer to 20-25. I'm 1/2 way through I'll find out if I am on track tomorrow...

My doc didn't say anything at all until I asked her specifically at 18 weeks if I was okay because I was still under by BFP weight (I lost in the 1st trimester bc of nausea). She told me that I was measuring fine so I shouldn't worry about it and keep doing what I'm doing. When pushed for a number she said because I was overweight when I got pregnant, in an ideal world I'd gain only 10-15 lbs by the end.

My doc never said anything. I'm 5 feet and usually pretty thin but I gained 50 lbs with my first!

I'm hoping to lose weight 1st trimester since I put on weight while TTC.

My doctor hasn't said anything about weight gain. I'm up 10lbs at 19weeks. I'd be happy with 25 gained..but I'm not paying too much attention to it! If I gain more than that, so be it!

I your doctor.
My doctor has been very laissez faire about my weight gain, despite my obsessing. She says the body does what it needs to do. My goal is 30, but it does seem a little out of my control sometimes. If my stomach is growling and I've already have my "calories" for the day, it's a lot harder to ignore it knowing that I'm supporting a baby in there.

@winniebee: I gained 60. My OB said she expected me to gain a lot because I was skinny pre-pg. She wasn't concerned. I was the one freaking out!

@MsLipGloss: that's awesome!! Today mine told me to gain for but then backtracked to 35/40. It's funny I think your body just knows what it needs to do!

I doctor said 10-15# because I started a bit overweight. I have been doing great IMO (10-12# up at 23 weeks), but I think her range is unrealistic. I'd be happy to keep it under 25.

@winniebee: LO was my carb baby...I ate carbs all day every day. I hope it falls off again but I heard it's harder with the second...not what I want to hear friends

My midwives haven't mentioned weight at all! I gained 18 with LO. At this point I think I'm on track to gain similarly to the first time.

@sandy: LO 1 was my dessert baby. I couldn't get enough ice cream....

my MD said b/c of my weight really I could have a healthy pregnancy not gaining anything. I wound up gaining 30lbs in the end, but a lot of that was water (4 pound weight gain Friday to Monday... ummm nope).

Mine never said but I gained close to 70 with ds. Only about 35 with dd. If he was concerned he would tell me!

My MWs refused to give a number, just said my body would gain what it needed to to grow a healthy baby that my body could deliver vaginally. BUT (huge caveat), they have a REALLY strict diet that all patients are required to follow. I gained 29 pounds.

@winniebee: my doctor never said anything about weight gain with Chloe. I am 5' tall and gained so, so much with her.
I pressed this time for a number, and they said 20-25. I am 20w and up 8lbs, so I guess I'm on track?!

With my 1st, the doc mentioned 25-35 was the target range. I'm also 5'2" and small frames. I gained around 40 and she never said anything. I also was very swollen and had a 10+ pound kid.
This time, I'm 35 weeks and have gained about 22 pounds. I also have GD so I have to follow a certain diet but I was gaining slower even before that. And honestly, I still eat a lot. It's just more protein and less carbs. And she hasn't mentioned anything this time either!

Mine said 20-25 at my first appt but then never mentioned weight again. I lost a bunch during the first tri and gained about 20

I don't think we ever talked about weight gain!

@Mrs. Jump Rope: I didn't realize you were short like me!!!

Last time because of being over weight to begin with my midwife said I could gain little to no weight if I did it the proper way but I ended up gaining 30 lbs anyways... this time she hasn't said anything about my weight even though I'm heavier than before. Maybe because I've only lost weight so far.

They didn't give me a set number - but wanted me to eat 3k calories a day! I REALLY struggled with that and kind of wish I hadn't listened to that advice. I think I would have gained less weight if I hadn't felt like I needed to eat so much.
I gained 37 lbs.
nectarine / 2973 posts
My OB said 15-20 lbs. I gained 23. My OB's office tends to be kind of strict with weight, I really don't like that about them. I would stress out before appointments about what my weight gain was going to be.

I was never given a number, and I gained about 18 lbs - but that's because I had GD and was on such a strict diet (otherwise, I would have likely gained way more)!

With #1 I was a little overweight, Dr said 25-35. I ended up gaining 35.
With #2 I was 30 pounds heavier than I started with #1, Dr told me 30-40. After first trimester I had lost 6 pounds, she said I might be looking at 10-15, which I would be THRILLED with

@septca: Strict for nutrition purposes or weight control purposes? I'm always super interested to hear about different pregnancy nutrition ideas

My OB never gave me a specific number and never really mentioned my weight gain. I gained 48 the first time and 25 the second time.
honeydew / 7230 posts
We never talked about it. I'm having twins so there's a lot more leeway though! I did bring up my concerns that I gained a lot (12 lbs) in first tri but my dr was not worried. Turns out I barely gained in 2nd tri, so at 37 weeks with two I've gained about 23 lbs. ETA: I'm 5'2" and started pregnancy a little overweight.

My doctor has never mentioned how much weight to gain or if I am gaining too much. He's overweight himself, so perhaps he chooses to tread lightly in this arena. I am really good at gaining weight in general and this pregnancy has been no exception so I asked him at my last appointment if I had gained too much so far. He hesitated and gave me a noncommittal "you're fine." Blah.

My midwife said 5 lbs in the first 20 weeks and 1 lb a week after that for a total of 25-30 lbs.
Having said that she never once weighed me or asked my weight, one of the many advantages if a midwife!
kiwi / 659 posts
My dr said she expected me to gain up to 35 lbs because I'm petite to begin with. I gained 28.

@septca: A friend of mine is currently with that practice for the second time. She said the first time she followed it to a T, this time she just eats what she wants and avoids Whitney And she says she feels much better this time around!
