LO's name was used by 15 babies in the US in 2012. Sooooo not popular at all!

This is very cool! My LO is named Gwendolyn, which had a brief moment of popularity in the South in the 1940's and 50's. Then it steadily dropped off into oblivion, lol.
Another site I love for names is Wolfram Alpha.
ETA, this is how I found out that the average age for Gwendolyns is 57!!!

Cool site!
My name was most popular in the early 80s, when I was born! It appears to be very unpopular now lol.

That's really neat! LO's name didn't gain popularity until around 2005 (but still isn't that popular in my state). My name was hugely popular everywhere in the 80's then completely died down before 1990 and has been dead ever since.

Mine was used by 1200, but did not exist until the 2000s Only 21 were born in our state the year she was born.

I name stats! My name was very popular when I was born (1984, right about at its peak), and was #15 in the country that year, #13 in Ohio where I was born-- 939 babies in Ohio with that name born in 1984.
LO's name (Fiona) has risen dramatically in popularity over the last 30 years, no indication yet of if it is peaking or still rising. It still is not that popular in the US though-- #209 in the US in 2012 and not in the top 100 for Ohio (so I can't see the # of babies born with it). Also my midwife told me yesterday she'd actually never caught a baby named Fiona, which I sort of love

Lo's name was never popular....
Mine was hugely popular in the 80s but dropped pretty low in the 2000s.

@LuLu Mom: how can you find out how many babies born with a name if it isn't in the top 100? I couldn't find that option on the ss website?
pomegranate / 3314 posts
@PermaStudent: Isn't it?! We used it when going through the name selection process and I recommend it to pregnant ladies all the time

My name was most popular in 1975 and lo was only on the map a few years. 19 babies in 2012 with her name!
Eta: my state doesn't even show up as any color in 2012 so hmmm. That's when she was born!

Aw, I can't do this on my work computer! Commenting so I can look at it when I get home

@meredithNYC: OMG! Not sure what to make of the fact that the average age for LO's name is 2 years old but it's not an invented name.

DD's name is not popular (it wasn't in the top 1000 in 2012). It hit its popularity peak in the 1960s, but even then was only in the 600s.
My name, on the other hand, is one of those names that is always common but never popular (like Katherine, but more religious). I think it was #20 the year I was born.

Such a cool map!
There were 41 of our boy name and 67 of our girl name in 2012, neither has ever ranked in the US top 1000.
Neither feels that weird to the two of us, so I'm surprised they're so unpopular. My mom is praying we have a girl because she's sure our boy name will doom him to a life of mockery. Meh.
Not surprised she feels that way, because my name was probably in the top 5 when I was born, DH's in the top 20.
cantaloupe / 6869 posts
Not that popular I guess! There were only 60 boys born with the same name as N in CT in 2012!

Boo! I can't get it to work. Maybe because I'm using safari?
i used wolfram alpha...dd name is average age 80 and ds is 2! yet, neither is a very popular name, both around 330 in top 1000.

My name was given to 5 people in 2007! It was most popular in the 70s with 172 people using it. Most of them were in Montana.

Average age of LO's name is 6 years old. It gained in popularity within the past couple of years. When we named him, it was among the top 10 of baby boy names in 2012. What's funny is that one of our upstairs neighbors at the time was also named it too. Our former neighbor's is in mid 20's.

@Mae: That was according to the website with the link in post. But I just found on SS if you do Popular Birth name by birth year -- sort by number of births, it lets you do top 1000. SS said 1300.

@LuLu Mom: oh weird... the website didn't work for me before but now it did! 42 Fionas in Ohio in 2012

@meredithNYC: I love the name Gwendolyn!
Also, that site is awesome. Apparently I'm right at the average age for my name, which is interesting because I don't feel like I know a lot of people my age with my name. Dd's name is uber popular - but we knew that when we picked it!

My name pretty much blew up right about the time I was born. Haven't picked a name for LO yet!

It didn't work when I put in Zuma. It said 5 people named that 1918 but didn't go up any years. Whatever that means.
