Both sets of grandparents live out of town. We only have one guest room. We know they'd both like to be invited to our daughter's birthday party. Usually when they visit, the grandparents get the guest room. This is the first time we potentially have both in town at the same time.
How would you handle this? Invite them and suggest a hotel? Don't invite them? Help?

I would invite them both, and then sleep on the sofa or on the floor!

I would just suggest hotels and pay for them if I could. I would feel weird having one set stay with us and one stay in a hotel unless they really wanted to

Are your parents young/fit enough that they could sleep on one of those air mattresses that is as tall as a regular better? Maybe your LO could share your room and one set of parents could sleep in her room on an air mattress?

Definitely invite them both. Stick whichever set is more agreeable in the hotel. That is what we did for our wedding (put my parents in a hotel because it was easier to say to them--- sorry but 1 room and 2 sets of people and I don't want them to be pissy lol).
For LO's first birthday it is a little easier because my MIL decided to come 2 weeks early to see my DH graduate grad school, so she isn't coming back for the party.

I would probably invite both and either let both stay somehow or neither.

Give your parents your bedroom, in-laws get the guest room, and you and your husband get a hotel room, while they babysit? 
Honestly, whichever set is more chill, ask if they wouldn't mind getting a hotel room for the evening. Or suggest they both go the hotel route, so no one feels slighted. My in-laws are super outdoorsy and would just camp at a nearby state park, but I know that's a long shot with most people (including me).

DH and I would sleep on the air mattress while the sets of parents got our two rooms. But if that won't work for you, I would suggest a hotel to whichever parents are most amenable.

I would invite them both and just explain about the rooms. Hopefully they will offer to go to a hotel.

I would invite them both. They'd be hurt if I didn't. I'd offer an air mattress or my bedroom.

I would invite both sets. Is there anyone you know who has a guest bed you can borrow the mattress from for the weekend? Set it up in a empty closable space like a loft/office or need be lo's room. But if your family isn't the type to squeeze in tight to save on lodging then ask the more chill set to get a hotel room.

Use lo room. We've done that before and lo can choose to sleep in a sleeping bag in her room or with us.

@Maysprout: that's what we do. We've had a whole string of visitors lately and we don't have a guest room. We put our sofa bed in DS's room and DS has been sharing with his grandpa for over a week at this point and it's fine.
