Personally I didn't mind someone checking in- it was nicer when people asked about me, not the baby, though. Literally a text that said "hey just checking in to see how you're doing" was nice.

The only thin I remember actually annoying me was my dad, who would be like "did you have the baby? Oh, ok (all disappointed sounding) every time I called. But that's my dad, socially awkward.

I agree with PPs. I would text a "thinking of you" or "hope you're doing well" and leave it at that. I didn't mind that. I was in labor for three days and I didn't like the texts that guessed that I must have delivered since I wasn't responding to texts.

I got tired of people asking how I was feeling, but thinking of you is nice. And I know everyone wants to help after the baby comes, but for me the last few weeks of pregnancy made it so hard to stand that cooking dinner was really difficult. If you want to get something a nice bottle of lotion or a lipgloss might be nice. Or a bathrobe if you are really close.

It gets annoying when everyone starts treating you as a vehicle for "their" baby (niece or grandson or what have you). It's just nice for people to remember you are a person.

Just that you are thinking of it is nice!

The thing I learned from this site is that everyone feels differently and you just can't win with pregnant women!

@bluestriped bee: just don't say "so when is baby coming" or " no baby yet?" I think "how are you doing" is great or if you're close "how are you holding up? Anyone you need me to punch for you?" As a way to lighten the mood and give them an opportunity to bitch if desired. I never wanted to complain about my pregnancy bc it seemed ungrateful, but when someone asked it was nice to unload a little towards the end.

I'm pretty easy going & loved being pregnant so not much bothered me ( but everyone is different!) The only thing that bothered me was BIL (& husband! ) would text me all day asking if I was in labor yet & it was annoying because I just wanted to meet LO & I felt like I was disappointing them. lol (i guess pregnancy made me a tad sensitive )

I hated the "any baby yet?" Or "how are you feeling?" questions. Ummm how do you think I feel? Also my mom always asked if I could feel baby drop, like, everyday, for a month.

I think the best way is to fire a quick text saying that your excited for baby news.

I really liked questions about how I was doing and not necessarily being asked about the pregnancy. Things that were annoying were the "Any baby yet?" questions. Generally, I tried to be gracious about everything, but once they started talking about how huge I was, and oh God I was going to be one of those women they would have to follow around in case my water broke (I worked up until 39 weeks), all bets were off.

I just ask how they are feeling and wish them the best. Some friends/family might be annoyed with that!

I was wfh the last five weeks of pregnancy which saved me from most of the coworker comments about impending labor.

I didn't mind questions and check-ins from close friends and family.

I was working up until i went into labor and it was VERY busy at work so this made it annoying when people constantly came over to ask me if anything was happening. And evenwhen i was working from home the IM's were constant which was stressful since it slowed down my day.

I would say if you are going to ask questions, a non-invasive method like email or even snail mail would be best. Something that requires her to stop what she's doing and respond immediately like walking over to her desk, a text or office IM all get very annoying since everyone else is also doing this! If you just want to give a word of positive encouragement any communicationmethod is fine.

Honestly, anything just drove me crazy.

Because just because one person would ask every other day, everyone was on that schedule. I think I had 7 people ask me one day - DIFFERENT PEOPLE - if their baby was here yet. I finally turned off my phone notifications, disabled my facebook, everything - I went completely tech silent bc I couldn't deal with it.

I think it really is a personal thing and each mother-to-be is different. I felt like people were hounding me and it stressed me out. The most appreciated check ins were texts "thinking of you! let me know if you need anything, but no need to write back."

@bluestriped bee: see, it's tough to know. I never really minded people asking. Except one awful coworker...but she annoyed me in general.

I didn't mind any questions...I was glad people were interested and cared enough to ask. The only thing I minded was comments about my size, but that actually bothered me earlier in the pregnancy. By the time I was due, people expected me to be huge....when I was 6-7 months pregnant and people asked if I was due soon, I felt bad. I thinking asking how they are doing and if you can help with anything are safe bets. Or even just a thinking of you text. I would have been a little sad if friends said nothing at all.

@bluestriped bee: Yep. For the first couple of times, it was a snarky response. But after that? I ususally responded with "I'll let you know, trust me."

If they still didn't get the hint? I let DH deal with it

I feel like there is just no point in asking when the baby is coming/if the baby is here yet. Because like.. its not a secret haha. I had so many "is the baby here yet?" texts my last month. And like... why would I NOT tell my friends when I had the baby.
