We recently moved into a larger home after living in apartment for many many years, and need a whole lot of furniture. I'm trying to figure out what configuration of seating will work best in this family/living room. Anyone wanna play?

Currently this is where DH and I hang out at night and where we hang out with company. We'll eventually be doing a bar/club style room in lieu of a formal dining room, and the kids have their own play room with a TV (to which we may or may not eventually add seating other than floor cushions). The room is longer than it is wide (about 17 ft wide by 26 feet long), with a fireplace and two sets of doors along one of the long walls, a door to the garage at the corner of the other long wall, built ins at one end, and open to the kitchen at the other short end.

I like that with the way the sofa is now, you can cut through to the center of the room from either side of the room, and I'm not sure I want to eliminate that option by getting a sectional. But, I also want to maximize seating (and have the majority of it able to view the TV if desired, or at least not have any of it obstruct the view of the TV).

Would love any thoughts or ideas! I thought I was all ready to buy a sectional, but now I'm doubting myself. DH is no help - he says I should just do whatever I like, but then has some very specific requests about "his seat" on the sofa, haha, and I KNOW he'll complain halfheartedly if he doesn't like what I choose so....I feel pressured!
