According to kellymom, at 1 week, the max stomach capacity is 1.5-2oz. You could try bumping him up to 2.5 oz to see how he does with it, though. He might be in a growth spurt, which is making him hungrier and wanting to feed more often (since his stomach doesn't have the capacity to hold more at one time).

@SweetiePie: If it makes you feel better, when we went to bottle feeding our pediatrician told us (with a smile) that our LO would tell us if we overfeed him by throwing it back up all over us. He did a few times and we learned his signals pretty fast

He told us that babies are really very good about regulating their intake and it's hard to overfeed them as long as you don't force the issue, so he told us to offer as much as they seem to want and they will tell you when they are done. I found it to be encouraging advice and has held true for our LO.

I wouldn't worry too much about overfeeding. A good rule of thumb for breastfed babies (nursed or bottle fed) is one ounce per hour, more during growth spurts. If he is constantly needing to eat more often than 3 hours i would increase it an ounce and see if he will eat that much. If he is spitting up he may be getting too much.

@SweetiePie: Spit-up was really sour smelling and a more thick consistency for us, and generally after he was burped. The throwing it back up was quite a large amount and came right back up after the feeding. It was startling the first time it happened, so I was glad our pedi had warned us!

You're in the growth spurt zone - my LO is going through it this week (days 10-13) where he clusterfeeding nonstop. Formula or bottle fed babes are the same - they keep asking to eat in small amounts for hours. It's to stimulate milk production for their needs after the growth spurt and to up your supply. So I would pump more often and try feeding him small increments more often. LO has not been off my boob for more than 20-30 minutes all afternoon and it's exhausting but his weight shot up this week and now he's taking about 2.5oz at each feed when he was just at 2oz earlier in the week. He will be 2 weeks tomorrow.
