I've been trying to find info on how HD cellular blinds are compared to Bali/Budget Blinds/etc. Is it just the mechanisms that are better, or is the fabric that much more different? Is it worth the crazy price difference?

My parents had Hunter Douglas and they didn't hold up. We've used budget blinds twice (different houses) and found that our blinds are actually sturdier than theirs.

We have them but the previous owner put them in. I think they are great but I have nothing to compare them to.

The previous owner put Hunter Douglas Silhouettes in our house but I don't think the fabric has held up well over time. When we need a similar product we're just going to go with a different brand.

Budget Blinds has good products. We are happy with the window treatments we have purchased from them although we decided against the HD type blinds.

@Freckles: We've had the Silhouettes in our condo since 2005 (previous owners) and they are all in perfect working order now. For us, they are great since they open from the top or the bottom, and living in a building sometimes we want one of the other open for different reasons.
The blinds over the kitchen door have a small tear in then, but the previous owners had kids, and my LO is also obsessed with the blinds over that door in particular (because it goes out to the balcony), so I'm assuming their kids tore it.
They have a lifetime warranty, so we can get it fixed--I just haven't called them yet.

No experience with HD, but we’ve had Budget Blinds in 2 different homes and have been very, very happy with how they’ve held up / how they look, etc. We’ve had both wood plantation shutters, blinds and black-out backed fabric blinds/curtains and none have given us any issues.

We just got Hunter Douglas shades installed, and while the fabric looks nice, we couldn't have been unhappier with the installation. It was done by an authorized dealer, and they put 3 shades on one window. We requested one headrail and they convinced us that 3 separate headrails would be fine. It's not...there is a huge gap between our windows and the shades weren't cut properly. They're not willing to do one headrail and now we're stuck with what we have.
To me, they aren't worth the price. The dealer isn't owning up to the issue, Hunter Douglas is saying they can't do anything because it's the dealer's fault and we're left with some very expensive shades that we're not happy with. Wouldn't recommend them to anyone.

@2PeasinaPod: whoa that's crazy! Three shades on one window--that doesn't make sense at all!

@2PeasinaPod: that's awful. I understand doing 3 if it's a very big window they can't accommodate, but it sounds like the dealer wasn't so great.
@yoursilverlining: @Mrs. Lemon-Lime: glad to hear good things about BB- I may end up going that route.
@spaniellove: @Anagram: my neighbour wanted silhouettes but the quote she got was $10k!

We had them in our last place and I really didn't think they were anything special.

We have Hunter Douglas blinds in our house that were installed by the previous owner - they look meh but I chalked it up to wear and tear. We had the local rep come out to give us an estimate on blackout blinds for the bedrooms and the price was laughably high. I saw and felt all their samples and honestly, I'm happier with the blinds.com ones that we ended up ordering. Fraction of the price and sturdier material. I understand that there can be a warranty on HD products but I don't foresee myself wanting any window treatment for a lifetime

@Freckles: Yeeah, I think if we were buying them ourselves, we probably wouldn't want to pay that much, but sine they were here when we moved in, I've loved that functionality of having them open from the top down or from the bottom up. Especially because we live on the second floor, so if I open them from the top down, I can get full sunlight but people on the street can't see in.
I don't have a good picture of them open, but they are pretty neutral and just kind of blend in.

@Freckles: I got samples for a similar product from maybe blinds.com or another company and if we had decided to go that route I would have just gotten the less expensive version. The sample seemed fine to me, especially knowing how HD holds up over time! (The fabric actually broke down when exposed to sunlight.)
