Is it possible for other people to add something to your baby registry??!
Because I look at our registry all the time, and today I noticed not one but TWO items on it that I did not put on it. And - one of them was already purchased!
Am I losing my mind? Is there some explanation for this?

Did you register in store? Maybe your husband scanned something you didn't know about?

Nope. DW and I went together the first time we went, but we scanned everything together that day, and I have monkeyed with it a hundred times since then. Also I just asked her.

Could be something wonky with their system. I would call the store and ask. Hopefully it wasn't one of your guests that purchased it?!

Sort of! At BBB if they buy something for themselves or someone else at the same time they are buying something off the registry it will be added to your registry. Fortunately, it probably won't wind up in your possession.

@babypugs: exactly what she said. If someone buys something in the same purchase as something from your registry at buy buy baby it shows up as 0 requested, 1 purchased.

Yep, if people buy stuff and forget to say it's not for the registry, it's gets added. I also had people buy stuff that they did give me just as extras and it got added to the registry if I wanted to return easily!

@wrkbrk: you should be able to delete them online, if I remember correctly? Bed bath and beyond has the same quirk. It's because the scan your registry first or something. (So note to self, never buy something embarrassing in the same purchase as a registry gift 
)

Target does the same, but in my case when it happened it was extras they bought for us besides our registry items.

Sounds like you figured it out! I just wanted to add though that if it says 0 purchased, then it's not the issue of someone buying other stuff at the same time they were buying a gift for you. I have a friend who works at a baby store and she has told me she totally gets grandmas coming in trying to change or add items when they don't approve of the registry picks! Crazy, but true. She always calls the parents first to see if grandma has permission (the answer is generally no) but some of her coworkers aren't so great about checking first.

I have also bought things as a gift that weren't on the registry and they add them so it serves as a gift receipt so maybe don't delete the item that is marked as purchased. I had a few items like that where the exact item I registered for wasn't available in store so the person bought me a different version and that served as my gift receipt if I wanted to swap it. (Thankfully though, people were really respectful about it, it was stuff like the toiletry kit or thermometer and neither item was particularly unique so it didn't matter which one.)

@wrkbrk: I used to do Bridal Registry at Bed, Bath, and Beyond. The reason it adds things that people purchase within the same transaction to your registry is that anything that is purchased "on your registry" can be returned without a receipt, no questions asked. I'd imagine this is the thinking behind it at other stores. So, for example, I go to BRU and buy a few things on the registry, but then also buy this outfit that I think is really cute, it adds the outfit to your registry. But you open it and think the outfit is hideous and want to return it. Well now it's on your registry so you can return or exchange it with no problems.

Who knew this could happen? We were careful to not select a thousand light blue teddy bears, blankets, and clothes, so when some popped up I noticed right away! I was like WTH are these things? Haha!
At least I know to act surprised.

It happened with my Target registry when someone bought a gift that wasn't on my registry-they added it to the registry and marked it as purchased. I was so confused at first!

Yeah this made me crazy on mine too! Especially cause a lot of the stuff was super random and clearly not for me... Silly!

This can be a helpful feature when you have to return things. And most of the registries offer thank you note help by telling you who bought what, so again that can be helpful.
