Is double electric THAT much better than single?
Which brands have worked or not worked for you? Is Medela the best?
How can I get the most bang didn't buck?
I don't want to spend more than $150 if I don't have to.

No! Honestly I looooove my manual avent isis just as much as my frikkn $400 medela. I love them both very much but I wouldn't say one is any better than the other.
But I've heard the Avent Isis is the Cadillac of all manuals...read it's amazon reviews! -

If you have to get a pump asap, I'd just spring for a manual for now. I've used the heck out of mine because I get annoyed hooking up/set up/take down for my double Medela PISA. I have whatever the Medela manual is and can pump pretty dang fast with it.

I have a medela swing (single electric). I rarely pump so I thought it would be fine just getting the single... I had a manual when DS was a baby & knew that I didn't want to do that much work. lol
In all honesty, every time I've used my pump I wished I got the double. Primarily b/c when I do use it it's after P goes to bed and when she stays overnight with my mom. It would be really nice to not take an hour to pump both breast b/c she won't be eating that night or when I wake up in the morning super full and have to make one breast "wait". Total pain.
So... if I had a do over, I'd get the double.

I have the Medela pump in style and love it. I've heard the cheapest place to get them is Baby Depot at Burlington Coat Factory. They typically have the older model but still brand new (just a different bag) at a much cheaper price and you can usually find a coupon to go with it. If I'm going to milk myself with a machine I want it to be the best.

@matador84: I already have a manual and it isn't working for me. I am going to be away from lo for 12 hours and will need to pump there times during that period. I can't get barely over an ounce with my manual these days....even when I am full.

@rainbowsprinkles I pump almost the same with my manual as I do with my double electric. But, I have friends who it is different for. I'm usually away from DS for 10 hours a day and just hand pump 2-3 times.

I also have the ameda purely yours and it works fine for me. I don't know how it compares to the medela tho. I liked that it was a closed system so no worrying about sterilizing tubes and its cheaper than the medela. I find that I'm able to pump more by pumping both at the same time.

I like my Ameda Purely Yours too. My only issue is that I haven't found a store that sells spare parts, so I have to get them online.

@Rainbow Sprinkles: so far no cons. I had used the ameda elite at the hospital, so rented that for a month while i tried out bfing.. The rental cost was too high so decided to buy the purely yours and return the elite.
Its very small and doesnt come with a bag, but im using at home so thats a pro to me vs a con.
Also it was cheaper than the medela pumps. Ive heard that milk gets into the medela tubes(open system) but it doesnt with the ameda (closed system). Not super up to speed on the difference though....

I got a medela Freestyle from Burlington coat factory and that thing is the bees knees. Not a sibgle complaint

@Rainbow Sprinkles: if you're okay with a single- I have the evenflo electric from target. It's only $40 and worth every penny! I usually bring it in the car cause its so small and portable. I have the medela pump in style too and I find little difference. The one kicker is its battery operated and goes through batteries pretty quickly but if you get some rechargeable batteries it shouldn't be too much of an issue.
If you hate it- it's only $40... But really it's a great pump and I get just as much out with the evenflo as I do the medela -
Stupid question:
If I get a double does that mean I have to hold both bottles to my breasts the whole time?

I got one as a baby shower gift and I bought another after I started pumping because I always wanted a clean one around. It holds up your flanges so you can pump and multitask!

@Rainbow Sprinkles: yes to holding the bottles, I've actually been able to hunch over, rests the bottles on my knee's (if I'm sitting criss-cross) and been able to pump hands free, haha

Medela Freestyle!
Save yourself some money and make your own hands free bra. Grab a tight tank top/bandeau bra, cut small incisions where your flanges will go--presto! Homemade hands free bra! This is a tip my lactation consultant taught me. I spent $6 at Ross on three bandeau bras--best money spent!

@Rainbow Sprinkles: I know some people can do it but it wasn't anything I liked wearing when I wasn't pumping. It fits tight ( but is adjustable) and my boobs needed more room!
I also tried cutting holes in a sports bra but it didn't work well for me and I preferred my pumping bra.

@Rainbow Sprinkles: I love my medela freestyle! Also, sports bras work great for cutting holes into. Before I go back to work I'm going to sew hooks'n'eyes on a sports bra so that I can just strap it on instead of wear it full time, but around the house I just wear it with pads where the holes are. Actually, I'm pumping right now, hands free.
