I'm 4dp5dt and trying not to go crazy. The PIO is giving me some trouble. I'm really sore. We've been relaxing in the mountains for a few days and I'm dreading heading back to reality.

@Leialou: have you done PIO before with your other cycles? I've been lucky to avoid it so far, but it sounds miserable. I can't wait for you to test!! Are you going to, or just wait for a beta? So hopeful and excited for you!
blogger / wonderful cherry / 21628 posts
@Shutterbug: this is my first time. I've done Endometrin in the past. I was hoping I could avoid the PIO too! I haven't decided about testing yet. I won't have access to any tests until Saturday at the earliest.

@Leialou: Hope you are enjoying yourself in the mountains? How's the weather there? Snow? or no? Sorry about your PIO injections. I'm really not looking forward to it at all.
So my lining check is tomorrow!! Ugh, if everything is on track I'll be starting PIO (first time) on tomorrow or saturday, too. Though, I'm hoping that concentrating on getting to the transfer will help. Wait, do I have to continue PIO after the transfer, too. Oh, shoot. I thought it was just til the transfer day. Ugh! Yuck. I know I have to put estrace tablets vaginally after the transfer.
Though maybe I might ask the DH to do my PIO if the anxiety gets bad. The length of the needle and the poke is scary. DH hates needles but I was surprised earlier this week when he offered to help with my shots. I might take him up on the offer.
blogger / wonderful cherry / 21628 posts
@bluestriped bee: no snow! It's been warm for January. Today is the coldest day. It's 50. Yeah you'll have to continue the PIO and estrace through the first trimester! I'm excited for your lining check.

How do Dr decide to do PIO or inserts? As much as I hate the inserts and how messy that is, I'd take that over another needle any day! I still haven't managed to give myself a shot thus far. But with DH going away in 2 weeks for a few days, I need to figure out how I'm going to do this
Day 3 of lupron here. My suppression check is in a week, and if all goes well, starting stims that evening. Also in the middle of applying for a new position in my company. It'd be for a 3rd or rotational shift. Not sure how I feel about working 3rd shift, but I'm so tired of what I'm doing now.

Hi all-
Had my follow up with RE on Tuesday! All looks good from the hysteroscopy; just a small polyp was removed. We were given all the next steps, and believe IVF is right for us. We have zero infertility coverage, so this is all out of pocket. We will save up a little more cash and then push forward in 5-6 months. We have a vacation in June that we would like to enjoy doctor free with all of our testing checking back as normal, it's hard to say what is causing the miscarriages. All 3 have been so different in nature. I freak myself out thinking my body will never be able to carry regardless of what we do...
Until IVF I will do OPKs progesterone and vitamins..... Blah

@Leialou: @bluestriped bee: Out of curiosity, how does your doctor decide to use PIO or something else?
Nothing much going on here. I'm on day 3 of clomid. Only side effects so far are bloating, minor hot flashes, and crying for no reason. Feeling pretty lucky that everything is minor so far.

Hey guys!
Jabbing Gonal-F here... bloods tomorrow, hoping to get to OI ovulation and squeeze in an FET transfer before we head away on holidays mid-Feb. Eeeep.

@PurplePumps: @Hoots: I'm not sure how the dr decides between the two.
@Hoots: Dr. R was the one who prescribed me suppositories. I'm don't think she ever uses PIO.

@Leialou: Sorry the PIO is treating you badly! You might try icing beforehand...I found that really helped with pain and probably reduced bruising as well. Also, make absolutely sure your gluteal muscle is relaxed (bend at the hip, wiggle toes a bit, whatever helps). FX hard for you!

@Leialou: Hope the mountain getaway is helping clear your mind! I'm so excited for you guys!
@bluestriped bee: If your DH is up for doing the PIO maybe he should do it! Can't believe you're almost at transfer day.
@Hoots: @PurplePumps: I've had to switch from inserts to PIO in the past and it was because my bloodwork wasn't showing enough progesterone. When I switched my levels went up.
pomegranate / 3809 posts
@spaniellove: That's interesting. My doc told me that when they do the beta test, they also do a progesterone level test and if that is high enough, I can actually stop the inserts. And I asked, well wouldn't it be artificially high since I'm doing inserts? And I was told that the inserts would not cause your blood progesterone levels to go up since it does not really make it into your blood, but the uterus where you need it is still getting it.
honeydew / 7916 posts
@PurplePumps: I think that's true that inserts don't affect your blood levels, although a lot of clinics will have you keep using them with the thinking that more is better. Maybe if your blood levels were low, though, they wouldn't want to take the risk that your uterine P4 levels were low?
(Wanted to add - I wouldn't worry too much about them having you stop; it sounds like they're going with the new way of looking at it.)

Nothing new coming up for me this week, which is not a bad thing . Just finishing out this cycle au natural. Pretty sure we are going to work with this new RE and do a mock natural FET cycle next so they can do the endometrial biopsy and check my natural hormone levels. Need to find out about insurance coverage for that and check into how to get the frosties transported to the new lab. Dr. also recommended I get another mammogram before we get started (family history of breast cancer) so I have to get orders put in from my GYN.
@Leialou: Hope the rest of your time away is relaxing!! I also recommend putting all your weight on the opposite leg during the PIO so that you really relax the muscle.
@PurplePumps: My old clinic did all PIO unless you had an allergic section. Sounds like the new clinic often does a combo. They all have their own ways, I guess. Good luck with the job change!!
@jaguar: @Hoots:
@mrs bunchy: Glad to hear that your results were good and that you are ready to move onto IVF when the time comes. Enjoy the doctor-free time!!

That's really interesting re: PIO vs pessaries. Might be worth having a chat to my specialist about!

@Leialou: I'm not a part of this, but I was just checking in on ya'll, and I'm so hopeful for you! Fingers crossed super hard!

Lining check was good! Transfer is definitely Wednesday Jan 28th!!! Woohoo!! Still calm and relaxed. Saw my accupunturist for a lunch appt and she mentioned that she hasn't seen me this relaxed before. Woohoo!

Lots of exciting updates on here.
@Leialou: when do you come back from the trip?
@bluestriped bee: @jaguar: to you both!
My HCG came back at 1 finally today so the nurse said to just call when we're ready to start trying again. We decided to not do an expensive IUI with injectables. We're getting pregnant now, for whatever reason. And the injectables won't help fix the bad egg issue, so we opted not to. We may try clomid because it's a cheap option but don't have high hopes of it doing much with my FSH and crappy eggs. I started CoQ10 and Ovaboost to improve egg quality and we plan to try again in March.

@babycanuck: @Hoots: @travellingbee: thank you!!
Cross posting from the ivf thread.
So last night's medicine and shots started off on the wrong foot.
So PIO last night was okay, not great. First, I had to take all my pills. The medrol is gross. You taste it and I almost threw up trying to swallow 2 pills. Oh, I take dexamethasone too but I'm used to that one. I started out taking dex with milk, then chocolate milk, then wrapping it on fruit roll up and now I take it with apple sauce. Medrol (methyl prednisone is a larger pill and I only had to take two pills last night but I will have to start taking 4 a day! (My gag reflex is starting just thinking about it.) I grabbed nearly everything from my fridge to get the taste out of my mouth. Oranges, sliced peaches, crackers with spreadable cheese, chocolate milk. The oranges seemed to help towards the end but not sure if it was the other 10 or so foods I crammed down my mouth. If I swallowed, I could still taste the meds. This is bad. I'm going to have to call my RE and see if they can call in a coated medication.
Then after 30 mins of eating random foods, I got started with my injections. My 0.5 ml delestrogen shot went fine. Then for my 1.0 ml PIO, I inserted the needle. Immediately removed it because I thought I was in wrong spot. Injection spot started bleeding. Had to get that covered. Turns out I was in the right spot. I just panicked. Injected again with new needle. I haven't been sore after the delestrogen but I could definitely feel it with the PIO. Still sore now and I put a heating pad on it just like I've been doing for delestrogen.
Yeah rough start to new meds and shots.

@bluestriped bee: I hate pills and needles so my heart goes out to you. I know, though, that if I were in your shoes I would do whatever needs to happen and I'd have the same reactions! FX!!
Being in the TWW seems like forever for time to pass by. FF hasn't pinpointed O but I know it was early this week and I desperately want to POAS.
honeydew / 7916 posts
@bluestriped bee: Oh hon that sounds horrible. I hope you're not on this regimen for too long. As Dory on Finding Nemo says, "just keep swimming". With the Medrol, it can cause nausea and stomach upset so I recommend taking it with food/on a full stomach. I did a dose pack where you start with several then gradually decrease by one and after a couple days I thought I had an ulcer again, my nausea and pain were so bad.

@babycanuck: @spaniellove: thanks! So there is no alternative so I'll have to continue taking them. I'm grabbing some yogurt and ice cream to help when taking the pills. Maybe pudding. Grab anything and everything from the grocery store.
@spaniellove: I have to keep taking medrol until my beta test. Ugh! Not looking forward to it.
@babycanuck: I was never a good pill taker but I've been on dex, metformin, folic acid capsules for months so I'm getting better but that medrol is awful!

@bluestriped bee: Don't know if part of your struggle with pills is anything like mine but I find it helpful to tilt my head up or to the side slightly; it makes things feel less like they're sticking.
kiwi / 673 posts
@bluestriped bee: I know this is weirdly specific, but have you tried wrapping it in a generic fruit by the foot? I've had really really nasty antibiotic pills with the same OMG-why-is-this-taste-still-lingering?!? reaction. It was the only thing I found that contained the taste. Regular fruit strips didn't work. For some reason it was the only thing that did it.
hostess / wonderful apple seed / 16729 posts
@spaniellove: oh, I do the head up thing now but I'll try the head tilt tonight.
@Hoots: I have done the fruit roll up for dexethasone earlier this year but I could still taste it. I've switched to just apple sauce but maybe I can do the fruit roll up and yogurt/ pudding/ apple sauce and see if that helps. Gotta try combos. Thanks!

@bluestriped bee: have you tried root beer after pills? For some of the nastier after tastes it kills the flavor. (Little trick I learned from dosing kids with dexamethasone and clindamycin)
pomegranate / 3764 posts
@bluestriped bee: I used to do my Synarel spray (nasty aftertaste) with chocolate milk. It was the only thing that worked!
hostess / wonderful apple seed / 16729 posts
@Mrs. Jacks: I don't have root beer but I think I'm going to have to try that out! Thanks!!
blogger / pineapple / 12381 posts
@bluestriped bee: I hope it works! Kids tell me it works for them, but their taste buds might be different.
hostess / wonderful apple seed / 16729 posts
@Mrs. Jacks: It worked. Thank you. I did still coat the pill in fruit rollup and then used the root beer to wash it down. I'm still worried about that taste so maybe I'll will myself to try to take the pill with just root beer and no fruit rollup. I know the fruit rollup probably affects the drugs absorption rate but I hope it's still okay.
blogger / pineapple / 12381 posts
@bluestriped bee: should be ok even with the fruit roll up, but I'm so glad the root beer worked! Pediatric tricks!
blogger / wonderful cherry / 21628 posts
@bluestriped bee: are the shots getting easier? I started calling them baby food last night. It kind of helped change my attitude about them.
I got a BFP yesterday. I'm anxiously awaiting my beta tomorrow!

@Leialou: you just throw that in casually at the end???!!!!
Holy cow that's awesome! Congratulations. I'm thinking of very sticky things...

@Leialou: Again, SO FREAKING HAPPY FOR YOU!!!! When's your first beta? I saw your test lines on the other thread, they look good! Are you thinking maybe twins?
