@Leialou: We're going to see the IL's on Saturday and we're staying for one night. My MIL and FIL are great so I'm excited to see them but thinking about seeing my SIL sends me into fits of rage... so I'm 50/50 on this weekend so far.
Today after work we're meeting with our homebuilder to go through picking our options, and I'm super excited about that!!
No updates from me IF wise. I did convince DH that we need to go to counselling to get some help with communicating about IF. We also have 6+ hours in the car together this weekend so I'm hoping maybe I can get him to open up a little bit then too.

This weekend means lots of driving for us in order to be able to see both sides of the family.... It means when I come back to work on Monday I probably wont feel like I was even off. Plus my weekend can't get started until after my final project for school get submitted tonight!
Nothing happening IF wise, we are on a break with the RE until we get back from our trip.

@alohaorchid: I am soooo happy to hear that you and your DH are talking about going to counselling, I think just being able to get the issue on the table will be huge! We usually have good chats when we are in the car together too....I think because it is a neutral setting
@Leialou: What is happening with you?

I'm back! I missed you all. So much so that I'm actually writing from the airport (4 hours until our flight out boo!). I've got a lot to catch up on from the old thread but I saw @faithfertility numbers doubled!!!! I'm so happy for you!!!
We aren't doing anything for Easter. I declared that we were still on vacation so we didn't have to commit to anything but we might go to BILs across town. No real updates, our cruise was nice and we had a good time but I don't think we are cruise people.

i have a question for you ladies:
if you had just gone though a bunch of testing, but were losing your ins & needed to wait to begin treatments until you had coverage again, would you pay for the follow up to go over the testing and go over what the plan would be? i think our ins will be lapsed by then (the 28th is the appt, i've called the RE office and they won't bill the ins now while the ins is current & they don't have any earlier appts), the appt if we pay OOP is $200, but we won't be going forward with anything until we're covered. so if we aren't going forward just yet, why bother? but at the same time, at least then we'd know what to expect & it wouldn't seem like all the testing was a waste. what would you guys do??
nectarine / 2433 posts
@mrs. bird: I am not known for my patience so that influences my answer I would want to go to the follow up but I know K and he would want to just wait until we had insurance again...

Heading to St. Martin tomorrow for Easter weekend! I cannot wait. We have not had a relaxing vacation in AGES and I haven't had any time off in 2014 yet.
As for my update... I was expecting AF after vacation. I've been stressed more than usual lately and, of course, leading up to O. I think I Oed earlier than usual this cycle. Go figure, I decided to stop temping and OPKing though so it's just a guess. I started temping after and my temp was high like normal post-O. But now it's dropping again. I think I'm about 5DPO, if I had to guess? But, I've had brown discharge stuff the past couple days. I don't know if AF is to be expected early or what... This might throw off the upcoming IUI too. Just waiting to see at this point...

@alohaorchid: Good luck on your car ride AND with your SIL. Wine is your best friend
@mrs. bird: I would want to know! I'd pay that, no question. Plus I usually imagine worst case scenario--what if your new insurance doesn't cover your current RE? I'd want all the info I could get to explain to a new one, esp since sometimes offices take their sweet time sending records.
@LindsayInNY: Ah you're going to have an awesome time! At this point, I'd just let whatever happens happen, and enjoy vacation and your husband. Fingers still crossed for you, but try not to let the days consume you (easier said than done, I know!)
I have my HSG in 5hrs and I'm starting to get nervous. Then tomorrow morning we are off to AZ to spend the weekend with my parents. I can't wait to relax and let my mom take care of me

@alohaorchid: that's awesome that he's open to counseling! So happy for you. And picking out things for your future home is a dream of mine--I'm jealous!
@mrswin: you need a good book on tape! Did you read the book Unbroken? I loved it, and my friends listened to it on a long car ride. Are you enjoying your med free break?
@MrsTal: welcome back! What was your favorite part of the trip? What makes you think you aren't cruise people? (My husband and I came to the same conclusion, by the way, even though we had a fun time.)
@mrs. bird: hell yes, I would go! You won't do anything with the RE, but you could still get some really valuable info. Like if your husband's SA was low in some area, he could take certain vitamins. . .I could probably daydream a bunch of scenarios! Go!
@LindsayInNY: Have a great vacation! I'm sure it's well deserved at a long, hard NY winter. Sorry your schedule is whacky--sometimes that just seems to happen. I hope it gets cleared up and you can enjoy vacation time 100%.
@Kelli_Deluxe: did you see the thread on HSG experiences? For most people, it is quick and painless. It hurt like hell for me, but at least it is fast! You should add your experience to the thread when you're done.

Update: I am much, MUCH closer to getting my one month old pre-IVF lab results, now that I've sicced my regular OB/Gyn's office on getting them. I am also in the process of trying to get any and all possible word-of-mouth recommendations from friends living in the city with the highest density of IVF providers in my region. Hooray!
@alohaorchid: Congrats on getting your husband to agree to counseling! Hoping for good things!
@mrs. bird: How long do you expect you'll be without insurance? If it's less than a year, then I wouldn't expect your plan to change much. And if there's a long wait associated with getting back in to see your RE, might that create an unnecessary delay in starting treatment? Of course, if you could get all of your results, you could probably get them interpreted, but that wouldn't help with next steps. If I were in your position, I think I would definitely prefer to go ahead with the follow-up.
@Kelli_Deluxe: Try not to worry about your HSG. Just relax. In my case, there was some pinching discomfort, which was short-lived, and it was over in no time. I think some folks recommend taking a dose of ibuprofen beforehand, but I didn't.
I'll spend Easter dinner with my in-laws. I need to decide what dessert to make...
pomelo / 5000 posts
My update: I'm CD 30, 11 dpo. Maybe I'll test Saturday morning? Not sure. I'm not really expecting to see a BFP, and FertilityFriend tells me not to test until Monday--my averages have been all thrown off my ovulating super early in my medicated cycles. I think I may feel crampy. Even though I'm babbling here, I'm trying mainly not to think about it.
I need to go count my needles (never thought I would be saying that) and see what I need to order for our medicated cycle. My doctor wants to try to get 3-4 good follicles.
We're traveling to D.C to spend time with family. I will eat lots of good food and we're staying at the Ritz--a one night vacation for us!

@FliegepilzHut: taking action feels good, doesn't it? What kind of dessert do you usually like to make--pies, cakes?

Nothing exciting just a Easter dinner with just us two and our dogs.
Updates: Currently in waiting room at the RE. Going to hear what the Dr will say about our next steps. Hopefully IVF! Oh, my last HSG there was a possible polyp. Hopefully it was just an air bubble or something.

Hi all, can I jump in?
I'm on my first cycle ttc this time, but last time it took me 12 months, one laproscopy to clear out stage IV endometriosis, Clomid, and progesterone to get pregnant, so I'm assuming that I'm still going to be on the IF ride.

Easter - I may eat a few chocolate eggs . . .
updates: appears I may be ovulating early in this med-free cycle? maybe 4 months of clomid has thrown me off? DH is gone right now so this cycle may go out the window, but honestly as long as it's a short cycle that's fine by me.
saw the RE yesterday and told him we're moving. actually he was very helpful - agreed to write me 6 months of metformin to tide me over, helped me request my records, and looked at SART data with me. he agreed the clinic near our new house is likely the best option in Dallas. so that feels like maybe it's meant to be. he thinks even paying out of pocket, IVF may be our best next step, but understood we might want to stay low-key for a while and do a couple femara cycles first (he thinks injectibles aren't a good idea for us unless it's a trial for IVF meds). I'm just not ready for the intense monitoring and meds of IVF yet. and I figure we'll try 2-3 cycles med-free before femara too and maybe then we'll feel ready.

@LAZB: welcome! I hope that your IF ride is a short one this time.

@mrswin: I think that's exactly it! The car just seems like a good place to talk
@FliegepilzHut: @Happygal: thanks ladies! I'm just excited that he is agreeing to take a step forward.
@mrswin: I know how you feel about the crazy weekend and not feeling like you get a break! Hopefully you get to have some downtime at some point throughout the weekend!
@MrsTal: Welcome back from your vacation! What made you think you are not cruise people? Just curious, cruising is something that has never appealled to me so I'm always interested to hear what people think.
@Kelli_Deluxe: Thank you! There will definitely be some wine consumed this weekend... I think lots!
@mrs. bird: I would probably just go. To me it would be worth it just to find out and this way you won't be wondering about it until you get insurance again
@LindsayInNY: Have a great, relaxing vacation in the sun!
@Kelli_Deluxe: Good luck with your HSG! I'm sure everything will go fine and then you get to have a nice Easter weekend with your family
@FliegepilzHut: That's great news that you are getting closer to IVF! And angel food cake sounds delicious
@Happygal: Your getaway sounds great, I love the Ritz! Good luck with testing, I'll be thinking of you
@LAZB: Welcome! I hope your stay here is short
@bhbee: Awesome news on a possible short cycle, fingers crossed! It sounds like you had a great meeting with your RE yesterday too, hopefully one of the medicated cycles works so that you don't have to go to IVF!
How is everyone's day going? I have a sinus infection right now and it's getting worse by the minute so I'm counting down until 3pm so that I can get out of here!

@mrs. bird: I personally would pay out of pocket to hear the results. $200 is a lot of money, but the peace of mind would be priceless!
@Kelli_Deluxe: Good luck w/ your hsg today!
No substantial updates here. I caved and went to an urgent care earlier this week. Turns out I did have a minor UTI. I'm on 10 days of antibiotics, but 4 days in to treatment and I'm spotting pretty heavily...!? (CD17, I'm supposed to O this weekend). I pray that this does not throw off my cycle. I'll die if I have to reschedule my hsg next month because of delayed ovulation or something...I've already waited 2 months!
We don't celebrate Easter, so no plans here!

Thanks for the welcome ladies
Right now I'm on CD 20, but haven't gotten a positive OPK yet, so looks like I'll O late. Of all my other issues, Oing was never the problem, so I really hope that it doesn't start to be.
Our only Easter plans are to go to DH's family ranch on Sunday. We'll cook and swim out there, should be nice.
@alohaorchid: Exciting that you are meeting with a homebuilder! We want to look at getting a new place (not necessarily building one though), but need to save more
@MrsTal: Cruises aren't our favorite either. They can be nice, but we prefer sticking in one or two places for a few days instead of moving around a lot.
@Kelli_Deluxe: Good luck with your HSG!
@doxielove: that's tough, I hope that your ovulation isn't changed

@bhbee: That sounds like a great plan! Happy that your RE was so helpful!
@LindsayInNY: Have a wonderful vacation! And maybe AF is showing up early, so that you can have a cocktail on vacation?
@Happygal: Have a great night in D.C.! I may be butchering the German a little bit...but it refers to a hat that looks like a "Fliegenpilz"-- which is a mushroom with a red cap and white dots that is a symbol for good luck in Germany (they're also toxic/hallucinogenic, but that wasn't what I was going for ). I just think they're cute...especially the knit baby hat that is my avatar!

happy birthday to me, the RE just called to tell me i'm a CF carrier. well i guess i got one part of the results back! fortunately, mr. bird is black and it's less common in his race (i'm white, much higher carrier rate), but they said they would require him to have a CF screening before they would go forward with any treatments. they did a bunch of other screenings for him, but since CF isn't common in someone with his background, they didn't do it yet.
@bluestriped bee: good luck at your appt!
@Happygal: sounds like a wonderful weekend! hoping the eater bunny brings you a special lil peep
@FliegepilzHut: thanks for weighing in! i have access to all my labs online- i can see them now. i don't know what our next ins will be because it won't be from the same company, mr. bird lost his job & he carried our ins i'm guessing most ins providers allow this place (truthfully, i don't love them so i wouldn't be heart broken if we had to switch, it would just be frustrating to feel like we're starting over), but i don't know that for sure. i live in MA, so we won't be able to go that long without ins, it's required by law.
@Kelli_Deluxe: i just feel a little like it's a waste of $$ and since it's a scary time financially for us, it's not something we NEED to spend money on, but it's something i WANT to spend money on. i really wanna spend the $$! haha. i wish the RE would just bill the appt today! i'm sure you've been told, but remember to take motrin like 45 mins before your HSG! i took 800, i'm pretty sure it saved me. hopefully it won't suck, but if it does, the procedure itself doesn't take very long. good luck!
@alohaorchid: i think having someone else help to facilitate the convo regarding IF sounds like a great idea!
@FliegepilzHut: ooooo, have you ever had a daffodil cake?? we get ours from a bakery ~45mins away, but it's this perfect light chiffon cake in a bundt pan with a super light butter cream frosting. it's like heaven & the perfect easter dessert (to me)! i'm sure there are recipes online
we're having brunch with my brother and his wife since my parents will be away. no real dinner because he's running the boston marathon on monday and super heavy foods the night before wouldn't be a good idea. it'll be laid back and nice.

Oh, and I almost forgot...but after 24hours (and 1 month waiting in vain for the RE's nurse to send them) my OB/Gyn's awesome nurse got my labs and passed them along to me!!! All normal, therefore still unexplained...or mild MF? At any rate, I can move ahead with setting up IVF consultations. Hooray!!!
@Mrs. Bird: A daffodil cake sounds lovely! I will look into that!
Re: your insurance -- that's much harder then. Is there any chance that you will have insurance that will cover IF treatments in the future? If so, and you can't be uninsured for long, maybe it would be better to wait. I don't know that I would have the necessary self-control... But you won't be starting from scratch, if you've already had all your testing done and at least you will be moving forward with the doctor who will definitely be guiding your treatment. Just my 2cents, though. BTW-- sorry to hear about your carrier status! Like you said, it is common to be a carrier, and thankfully, the disease is rare.
And now I really need to get off my iPhone and go do the dishes...

Hi everyone!
We aren't doing anything this year for Easter. I may have to go but some candy though!
No updates from me this week. I'm still on the pill and waiting. I've got about two weeks until my first FET related appointment. It should be on the 1st or 2nd.

@Kelli_Deluxe: I called the RE to ask anyways and the nurse said if AF starts over the weekend, just to call them Monday. But, like you said, I'm just letting whatever happens happen right now. Just makes a bathing suit and vacation BDing not as fun, LOL! Also, don't be nervous!! I was and thought the HSG was easier than an annual pap... Enjoy AZ (I it there!)!!
@MrsTal: Welcome back!!! Hope you had a nice time!! I've only been on one cruise, DH hasn't been and isn't interested for some reason. My parents seem to love them though?
@mrs. bird: I think I would wait for insurance... Maybe you can ask them to send you copies of your results in the meantime to look at?
@FliegepilzHut: That's one way to look at it!! I was expecting to be in the middle of the TWW anyways which is still drinking time

@mrs. bird: oh man, the IF gods are not being nice to you! (btw... did you know you can see all your results on the portal on our RE's website? I'm such a stalker of that thing. Every time the nurse calls me I'm like 'I know, I saw online' haha) On a brighter note, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!
I have a little update, so even though I'm sort of on a HB hiatus (well, *trying* to be) I thought I'd share.
I have an appointment at another RE clinic on May 23rd! I'm very excited, but even more so that it's not for a month. I need a longer break! My shingles are finally gone, and I'm leaving for Mexico in two weeks. Looking at the positives of not being pregnant for the trip....... drinking my weight in margaritas LOL!

@Shutterbug: Hooray for margaritas!!!
@LindsayInNY: Ah, yeah... You'd think I'd be a little less cautious after all these unfruitful months... You didn't ask...but on all but the heaviest days, my experience has been that those cups (what are they called-- Softcups? or similar) work very well for swimming, etc. The learning curve is pretty short, as long as there isn't too great of a gross-out factor. Sorry if TMI.

@Shutterbug: thank you!! Yes, I might stalk the portal, too I hate that it puts the date you last accessed them, I feel like they're keeping track & mocking me for looking so often it's weird though, p's aren't on his & they were taken a wk & a half ago. I'm soooo glad your shingles are gone! That would have been so crappy if you had them during your trip. Have an amazing time & drink something fabulous for me (maybe 5 fabulous things ). So I got a freaking diagnosis! Yay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
As you can tell I'm so relieved that my new RE has a plan to get me pregnant and why it wasn't working before.
So my REs (there's two of them) think that I have PCOS and DOR. They ran a bunch of tests but think my 33-34 day cycles and past AMH levels (1.24) was the first sign that I might have had PCOS. They had me do an Clomid Challenge to see how I ovaries/ follicles respond and an HSG. Oh, and blood test measuring a lot of things. From those results they see that I have an higher level of male related hormones (Testerone and some other hormone that starts with a D). It's not sky high. RE assured my husband that I wasn't turning into a man. Haha. It's just that my levels were slightly high for a woman my age. It is normal for woman to have these male hormone. Secondly, PCOS (I'm learning) is very similar to diabetes and the how insulin in the body can affect other things. Apparently my test show that my body is slightly insulin-sensitive. I'm not a diabetic at this point (but I might have a risk of developing it in the future because of PCOS) , but it appears that because I'm insulin sensitive, my body has to make extra insulin. That extra insulin was seen in my blood tests and might be causing my infertility and possibly making me not ovulate during my non-medicated cycles. I was completely unaware. My past RE didn't see this before either. I guess they didn't do the right tests.
So I'm now going to be put on metformin to manage the insulin issue and I'm also now going to be taking dexamethosone (I forget why.)
So as for my most recent HSG, I told you guys that my RE saw a possible polyp. The other RE in the same office concurs that it might be a polyp. So we are going to do a SHG (Sonohystogram), also can be known as a SIS. It's a saline infused ultrasound, so they can flush it out and determine if it is a polyp. And polyps can be common with someone with PCOS.
If it is a polyp, I will have surgery because a polyp could increase my chances of having a miscarriage when I get pregnant. So my RE thinks we should hold off on trying naturally until the polyp is confirmed. (Though, if I get pregnant by a miracle this cycle, he said that he can work with that too and it has happened where people with a polyp continue to have a normal pregnancy). So my hope for getting pregnant this cycle kinda went out the door. (I'm currently day 8 DPO). It's okay. The diagnosis is such a relief now. Also, the longer I'm on metformin the better my chance of getting pregnant. Yay!! I have an answer!!
So for my treatment plan, I have 3 options:
1)Natural Timed intercourse with metformin
2) take a step back and try upto 3 IUIs with the metformin, dexathasone and femera.
3) jump into an IVF cycle with metformin, dex and femera and injectibles.
RE told us go home and think about it. We are meeting with the finance person next Tuesday to discus $$. AF should arrive next week so it's perfect timing to get my SHG/SIS scheduled. Oh, as for the DH, his last SA showed morphology of 16%! Highest I've ever seen it. Although, they counted round cells in his sample, so it might be white blood cells or something else. White blood cells is not very common in the semen, so he might have to see a urologist. Anyway the RE does have to stain his current sample to see if they can determine if they are white blood cells or not. So until they figure that out. Guess we'll have to wait for that. Which is fine because I'll need a month to get my body on metformin and get my SHG/SIS done and possible surgery to remove the polyp, if there is one.
So that's that, we do have a bit more hope that treating the PCOS could get me pregnant by IUI or IVF. The problem is being super aggressive and paying the money to jump into IVF or going back to doing IUIs which aren't as expensive.
DH and I are leaning towards IUIs, so at least we can know in the future if IUIs will work. If we jump into IVF, will we never know if IUIs could have worked. Plus, IUIs are better on our savings account.
So that's my super long update! Thanks for reading!!

@bluestriped bee: Hooray for getting answers!!! It's great to have options and a plan (or plans) in the works! BTW: I think you mean insulin "insensitive"/insulin resistant with PCOS.

I'm jumping in...had my water sono today to prepare for my FET. My RE took a look at my ovaries and measured a 17 mm follicle. He wasn't sure I already ovulated or if I will ovulate in the next few days. I guess I will use some OPKs in the next few days to figure it out. I will call when I get my period to start my FET cycle.

@Mrs. Polish: Thanks! I'm going to read up on PCOS tonight and I'll let you know if I have any question. Oh, did you have to take dexamethsone?
@FliegepilzHut: Ah, insensitive, that does make sense now that I think about it.
