what age are you considering switching them to a more structured, curriculum based center/pre-school?
LO is 22 months and I'm feeling torn- as she approaches 2 yrs I wonder if perhaps a center based daycare would be beneficial? Do you plan on switching your LO at a certain age?

@NovBaby1112: we're planning on switching to a preschool type center at 3 years or a little before. I thought about it at 2 but she just loves her in home sooooo much! She Is Bffs with our caregivers daughter. I will be sad when we switch

LO isn't 1 yet so we haven't thought much about it. I assume we'll try to get her into some sort of preschool so we'll keep her where she is until then. I guess until she's 3 (?)

We originally said 2, but honestly can't see us switching anytime soon. We will send her to an ourside preschool at 4 (for 2 years) and honestly I think she will stay at her in home and just attend preschool 3 times a week for the education/structure. I think she would be miserable if we switched her from her second home, and now we have #2 to think about, I want my infant to be with our lady now for sure.

I honestly don't know. Maybe at 4 for pre-k? We love where she is and wholly trust the care she is given. Plus, I know she is learning even if it isn't structured. She has her whole childhood to be in school so I am not in a rush, really.

Our LO is in-home now, and I had hoped to start him in a montessori program this month (at 2.5), but we had to make an unplanned temporary move and will move again to a permanent house in the spring/early summer. I didn't realize how unsettling the move would be for him, and seeing how hard it was for him to adjust to that, I didn't want to tack on a new daytime / caregiver setting at the same time. I think we're going to wait until we're settled after the next move to start him in "school".
He really loves our provider and the other kids there, and even though they're not formally teaching him things, his verbal skills are great. I'm not sure what he "should" know at this point (he doesn't know his colors at all yet, for example, but he'll get there), but he is happy and loves to go (and is only 2.5), so that makes me happy.

Maybe preschool around age 3, although I haven't given it too much thought yet. We love our babysitter. Her and T are bonded like grandma/grandson. It will be sad for her and us if we stop using her.

I'm thinking around age 3. That's also when T likes the kids to leave. She only really does super young kids at her daycare. Mostly, i want E and the new baby in the same place for about a year. Then, i will probably move both to a center.

DD was in a daycare setting from 8weeks to 2 1/2 years when we switched her to an in-home care provider. DS was with the in-home care provider from age 8 weeks until 23 months when we moved. I know that every child is different but I see definitely differences between what DD knew at 2 yo and what DS knows; for example at 2yo DD could make the sound of almost every animal at the zoo, DS makes none.
We are currently in a transition because we moved to another state. I am current WAHM so they are both here with me except for DD attending pre-K. I'm hoping to put them both into a structured center because although I loved our in-home provider she didn't provide any educational instruction just lots and lots of love.

Probably around 3.5, at least part-time. At least that's what we're thinking right now (by we I mean me - DH never thinks about these things), but DS is only 6 months so no need to worry for a while.

The plan was 1 day a week at 18 months (so our caregiver could work in her kids school once a week), 2 days at 2, etc. Ramping up to full time kindergarten. Well our caregiver got a full time job at his preschool and he went to full time child care at 22 months old. It was great for him.
There is no bad choice. I have found that our son learns in spite of the school choices we have made for him.

We'll more than likely put him in a half day preschool and keep him at our inhome daycare this is what most families in our inhome do.

@LuLu Mom: that is def a good reason to keep her in- 2 at one place is way easier than at different places I imagine!
@bpcmarj: that's true...I feel that way as well, I'm just wondering if LO is bored and would benefit from more "activities"
@ballerinabee: that makes sense- I would have done the same and held off, seeing as how he's still adjusting to the move
@Danizaur: i feel the exact same way. I am so attached to our daycare lady lol, I get upset just thinking of leaving!
@blackbird: that's a good idea. I have no clue how far apart our kids will be, but that makes sense since they will be close together.
@purrpletulips: see, I'm not so much worried about learning- as LO is very verbal and bright- it's more that I am worried about her being "bored" now that she IS getting older and is advancing and I just wonder if she would benefit from more activities- like the kind centers provide, if that makes sense?
@OldEnglandMama: that makes sense! at least you still have lots of time to decide, it's so hard!
@brownie: how did they do with transition? Like 2 days at a center and the rest at the in home? That might be a good idea...
@jetsa: yea, a bunch of the girls and boys at LO's daycare are around 3ish, and most go 3 days a week to daycare and 1-2 times a week to preschool.
The reason I am asking is because there is a dacyare center/preschool right by where my new work would be. I looked into it and loved it, but the price was too high for us. Turns out, they do price match if you can show them proof for a similar program, which I did, so now we are just deciding what to do. Seems like a great opportunity- they actually have the availability for the days I would need, plus I really liked the environment and teachers- but I am feeling very conflicted as we love our current provider. Hmmm....

My DS is 8 mos and is currently at an in home daycare. I think I'll switch him when he is potty trained to a preschool.
@NOVBABY1112 that is an awesome opportunity if that preschool does do a price match.
