My son is 10 months. We live in Florida. Recently he's been getting covered in mosquito bites after only a few minutes outside. I feel terrible! I really hate to use some kind of bug spray on him, but with Zika and everything it also makes me nervous when he gets 5 mosquito bites in 5 minutes (like yesterday!).
Does anyone have any recommendations? I know DEET is the most effective, but ugh on putting that on a baby. What about picaridin?

I got Off Deep Woods (25% DEET) wipes for the baby. If I'd been able to find it in stores (didn't have time to order them from Amazon), I'd have gotten Natrapel (20% picaridin) wipes. I like wipes for babies because I feel like I have more control over where the stuff ends up.

You could always try the lemon eucalyptus first. The bug band bracelets are also great (put on the ankle for a baby).

Just read yesterday that you should try to use picaridin instead of deet because it lasts longer and is less toxic for babies. And it is proven to be effective.

We will be using bug repellent bracelets on the kids. I've also got mosquito repellent plants planted around our patio. Citronella, lemongrass, Lavendar, catnip, marigold, etc.

This is going to sound flat out insane, but I live in the South and a bunch of moms on my local boards are obsessed with this stuff and say it works:

Consumer Reports made their report on natural/DEET-free bug repellant for the Zika carrying mosquitos public. You can google it, but the one they recommended was Repel Lemon Eucalyptus.

Thanks. I am just worried that stuff like eucalyptus, essential oils, etc. will not work. Obviously I don't want anything toxic, but he seems to be a mosquito magnet - like me (I get killed in just a few minutes outside and have big welps) - and for me, nothing but Deet works.

@MrsADS: consumer reports did a study, and only deet or lemon eucalyptus oil (not essential oils of lemon and eucalyptus mixed, but the oil from a lemon eucalyptus plant, Corymbia citriodora) work. Every thing else is b.s and old wives tales. We just got Repel brand. You apply it to the clothes.
