How would you feel if grandma wanted to buy your 3.5 year old an iPad mini for Christmas? Older cousins (aged 7 and 5) got them as Christmas gifts a few years ago and grandma is going to get one for their younger brother (also age 3.5). You all spend Christmas together and open gifts together.

I don't want T to have his own iPad, and neither does dad. I just don't like the idea of him being gifted one FOR him. I have an old iPad that we have a bunch of cartoon episodes on as well as apps. I only charge it for long car rides or flights. My theory is I don't want to battle with him over his use of it. The kid LOVES screen time, but can get upset over it when it's limited and/or over... and maybe it's my own fault for letting him get upset over screen time in the first place, but I don't feel it's appropriate for him to have his own iPad at this age. I know many parents have success with limiting screen time and having their child earn screen time with good behavior....but knowing my son's personality I can already envision it spiraling out of control.

Then there's the issue of cousin receiving iPad from Santa Christmas morning and our son not getting one....which I kind of feel like grandma shouldn't put us in that situation in the first place.

How would you react?
