I don't know what a tie looks like, but I do remember C made a clicking sound when she nursed really early on. Everything I read said it was a problem with her latch and it was so bad, but we never had a problem. Yes, my nips were pretty sore for a little while, but never cracked or anything out of the ordinary. So... in my experience the clicking was nothing and she outgrew it when her mouth got bigger.

Yes, that looks like a lip tie. It doesn't necessarily mean it needs to be clipped. My LO has a lip tie, but the LC said it's so slight that it shouldn't interfere with BF. She makes a clicking sound sometimes also, but I just unlatch and latch again. You should ask a LC or ENT whether it needs to be clipped. I'm not a fan of unnecessary procedures so I decided not to get it clipped.

The click could just be a really strong suck and that big gulp of milk.

Yup! My kids both have it and tongue tie too. They also made clicking noises while nursing. We never clipped them and they did fine, but I've heard clipping is no big deal and can help. Not only with nursing now, but also with teeth growing in and less drooling.

Yep!
The surgeon warned us it could cause a gap in his teeth and/or speech issues, so he clipped it when he clipped B's tongue tie. It was a really simple procedure.

Could be, but have a doc look at it. My oldest LO had a posterior tongue tie and an upper lip tie (usually if one is present, both are) and we had it revised with laser because it affected her ability to nurse and gain, and caused her colic. I suspect LO2 also has one, but hasn't had any problems eating and has good mobility, so unless it's necessary later to close the gap between her teeth, I won't correct it. When they are interfering with feeding, or severe enough to cause life-long problems with speech, food aversions, palate forming high and arched, etc, I think it's super important to have them revised or clipped.

Yes and yes! My LOs mouth looked the same...I didn't get it done and have always regretted it. Nursing was never comfortable for me and I always had some supply issues. I really think it was the lip tie. She also has a gap between her front teeth now at 2. My sister had the same experience with her first and got her second child's lip tie fixed and said it made a huge difference.

I've been told by IBCLCs that you can't diagnose with a photo! Definitely get him checked out if you're having sore nipples. It could be lots of things...
