My DH works in a STEM field. We’re both into statistics, and we’re atheists who don’t believe in soul mates. As such, we love this song by Tim Minchin.

I’m throwing my DH a surprise birthday party, where I’ll be reading him a poignant letter I wrote about how awesome he is. To balance out the sappy letter, I thought it’d be funny if I ended by saying I’d like to quote this love song that we have sung together for years. (I’d leave out the part about a separate life, btw—it would mostly be about the idea of soul mates and the bell curve, etc.)

But now I’m second guessing myself. Maybe instead of funny, it would be weird. Maybe people would think it diminished all the great things I said about him just before. Maybe it’s too...I don’t know, cavalier? What do you think?
