What are some items you like to take on the plane with you? I'm wanting to keep things light, but want to be comfortable while on the plane and during layovers. Would love to hear your lists!

For just me? Kindle. Bottle of water. Treat of some type. Tablet for movies, if it's a long flight/layover. Oh yeah - and socks and a sweater because I will get cold.

For just me: phone and headphones with podcasts or music, something to read, lip balm, eye drops, possibly a big scarf/shawl in case I get cold (especially fall/winter), motion sickness meds, gum. Neck pillow if it's a long flight.

A book or two depending on the flight length, water, socks, chapstick. That's it really.

I always bring Excedrin, my husband and I can be counted on to get a headache. I like to bring a pack of those Wet Ones wipes, even if it's just me, I wipe everything down.
I also like to bring snacks. I can eat a full meal right before i get on the plane, but am hungry 15 minutes in.

I've had too many lost bags the past few years, so I take the following:
- A change of clothes that scrunch up small (yoga pants, T-shirt, underwear, socks),
- Essential bath products (toothpaste, toothbrush, face wipes, deodorant)
- Tablet
- Phone charger
- Pen
- Snacks (usually nuts)
- Earbuds
In my purse I always carry concealer, an extra tube of mascara and a small bottle of pain meds, so those go on with me too.

For a short flight:
phone & charger, kindle, earbuds, water, snack, some sort of layer (hoodie or whatever), advil, chapstick
For a longer flight, I also bring my glasses and contact case.

@Bao: my three essentials are a light jacket cause it always gets so cold, iPad and earphones. For long flights - add charger, food and inflatable neck pillow.

Like others mentioned, Water, sweater of some kind, socks if I'm wearing sandals, something to read, something to listen to and head phones. Snacks. If international, a change of clothes.
Also hand lotion, my skin gets so dry on flights. Any medication or valuables

Scarf to use as a blanket or pillow, iPad, charger, not noisy snack. Lately been eating Swedish fish as my plane treat. Ear buds with podcast downloaded.

Not much:
Book
Ear buds
Snacks (type and amount depends on flight length and inflight food options)
Socks
Sweater/shawl
Eye mask (if longer flight / I plan to sleep)
Phone charger
Then the normal items that would be in my purse anyway (phone, lip balm, etc)

We've gotten stuck without our luggage overnight for layovers before, so now I always pack a carry on with anything I wouldn't want to be without in that situation. Other than that a sweater, water, Chapstick, whatever else I usually have in my purse, something to read, something to listen to, and a charger.

In addition to what pp's said, I like to bring a Kleen Kanteen to fill up with water right before the flight.

Socks, sweater, lip balm, iPad, charger, snacks, Advil, water bottle.

- phone
- portable battery pack/charger
- kindle
- iPad for long flights with tv and movies, 2+ hours
- ear buds
- always a warmer layer (denim jacket, sweater, wrap)
- snacks
- my small makeup bag of essentials (would be expensive to replace makeup if lost)
- Advil
Oh and if it's a long flight (I'd say over 3 hours) I do bring my neck pillow. It sounds silly but I have a long neck and trying to sleep on a plane wrecks me.
My goal is to never take more than a tote-sized purse.
