D is #10 but he's almost 7 and didn't contribute that year. But his name has been in the top ten probably for thousands of years lol.

It's so interesting to look up your own name and then see how it's changed over the years.
ETA: I may just be a nerd, though.

My LO (born 2012) is #3. I think it was #6 her year? Either way, I still have yet to run into another one anywhere, lol - I know a 15 year old with the same name but that's it!
I love the name Elizabeth.

@BakerBee: I agree, though my name was #999 in 2010 and seems to have fallen off the list since then.
pomegranate / 3895 posts
My name was #23 the year I was born and now is #322. Talk about slowly falling out of favor!
honeydew / 7091 posts
I'm kinda surprised L's name hasn't ever been in the top 100 - I just love it so much!
honeydew / 7091 posts
My name was #38 when I was born (highest ever) and is now #244.
@BakerBee: I don't think you are - I'm going to be playing with this all day!!

My second daughter made the chart for the first time since 1941! I started a trend
My first daughter is holding steady in the mid-200's. I can live with that.
There are some really good names buried in the top 1000.
papaya / 10343 posts
@BakerBee: Similar! Mine was 15 when I was born and is 138 now.
So our top two name finalists were Penelope and Fiona... Penelope has shot up the ranks (seems to still be picking up steam) and went from 125 to 56 this year! Fiona is also gaining popularity but much much slower/lower. Just 197 up from 209 last year.
We'd already decided on Fiona a few months ago, but I'll admit this made me extra happy with our choice! I still love Penelope but its rise makes me wonder if it will be a top 10 name in the next few years!

@Weagle: top 1000 for 2013 http://www.ssa.gov/cgi-bin/popularnames.cgi
ETA: sorry that doesn't work as a direct link. From the main link at the top of the page, click "Popular names by birth year" then pick your year and # of names
nectarine / 2180 posts
@weagle: Also, you can download a file to see all the names that didn't make it in the top 1000 but have been used at least 5 times in one year: http://www.ssa.gov/oact/babynames/limits.html
pomelo / 5326 posts
@sorrycharlie: our LOs must have the same name. We knew it was popular when we picked it last year, but I made it known that I wanted her to be called either Liv or Livy and I'll register her in school as Liv. I love The original but in our area there are lots and lots!

DD's is 194 and steadily climbing. DS' has held steady at 241 for 2 years now!
pomegranate / 3917 posts
My name was highest on the list (at 176) the year after I was born, otherwise is a 700+ or so type name!
DDs got to 18th in 1991, but was 235 the year she was born.
Off to scour this for boy name ideas!

My daughters name isn't there at all for the last 14 yrs. I know it's uncommon, but I'm still surprised by this. It's not a made up name, just old fashioned.
My name is rising in popularity quickly!

My name was 234 the year I was born, now it is 591. It did break the top 100 in the 1914...haha I didn't know it was so popular back then! I've never thought of my name as "Classic"
nectarine / 2180 posts
LO's name is just outside of the top 1000. Now to find another girl's name that's similar in style that my husband and I can agree on (and he has absolutely no idea how popular any one name is!).

My name was #35 the year I was born and #705 now. M's name has never cracked the top 1,000.

Yay! Thanks for posting! I love names!
For 2012, someone took all the names given that year and grouped them based on same name, different spelling and then ranked them in a spreadsheet. It was so interesting - a lot of different names (like Aiden and the various spellings) moved into the top ten and bumped others out.
I'm sure it was a ton of work, but I hope someone does it with this list!

@Running Elley: I can't believe your DS's is 241...it seems more popular than that!
blogger / wonderful cherry / 21628 posts
My name has been in the top 1000 three times. The highest it's been was 917. My top two boy names are in the top 25. It doesn't bother me.
pomegranate / 3113 posts
DD's name rose slightly in popularity (485 to 436). I'm always surprised it's not higher, given that it's just one letter off from a top 10 name that's been there a few years, but I like where it's at. Not too popular but not too uncommon, either.
honeydew / 7091 posts
@TemperanceBrennan: Yeah - I think that's a more useful list. There are like 5 different ways to spell L's name, so if you combined all of them it would likely be significantly higher on the list!
eggplant / 11408 posts
LO's name hasn't been in the top 1000 in the last 100 years, which I think is kinda neat!
pomegranate / 3398 posts
I'm so glad two of the three of my girls names aren't in the top 10. I wanted them to feel unique and I think they do!

@Pancakes: would your DH go for something like Agatha? That hasn't been in the top 1000 in a long time and is super pretty!
nectarine / 2180 posts
@LovelyPlum: Funny you should mention Agatha; we just started watching the BBC series Mr. Selfridge and one of the main characters is named Agatha. He likes Matilda nn Maude, but I have mentioned Maude to 2 people and gotten very negative reactions both times. Your DD's name has been on my list of favorites for awhile, so I think we have similar tastes!

Charlie and Olive's are about the same in the 200's! Both have been increasing in popularity over the past 10 years.
persimmon / 1198 posts
DS's name is 95...I like that number. Not too out there but not super common either...exactly what I was hoping for. Although I bet it will climb in popularity (he was born in 2014). I think it was in the 150-200's in 2012.
coconut / 8483 posts
DS's name still isn't in the top 1000.. but the more common spelling went from 436 to 419. The similar girl versions of his name are climbing a lot though.. eeek.
My fave girl name (my maiden name) is falling!! Hoping it might be out of the top 100 when we have a girl!
My name was #3 the year I was born and is now 298. DH was 113 and is now 23! I hear lots of little boys with his name.
coconut / 8681 posts
@lawbee11: I agree!!! I didn't check it with different spelling...maybe Elliott is more popular?
