@Mrs.Pinecone316: I wish I could think of some good media recommendations... How are you feeling? Do you have your 1st sono date?
pear / 1556 posts
@macintosh: Sounds like things are progressing well for you! My right ovary was a lot "quieter" as they put it, than my left one was. I still ended up with 16 mature eggs at retrieval. Good luck!!
@Jenn23: Wow that seems like a later beta! FX for you! It sounds like you have had some very promising signs!!!!
@Mrs.Pinecone316: That's great news! So glad your numbers are so good!!!
@mrswin: Woo hoo! That's awesome! So happy for you!
@lazypanda: Glad things are moving along for you! I started to feel much better once things got moving. It's exciting! Honestly, IVF wasn't bad for me at all. Hopefully it will be the same for you!
@FliegepilzHut: Sending lots of positive thoughts your way!

@Sunshine1810: Thank you! Are you still counting down to September?

It finally hit me over the weekend that this cycle is starting really soon for me! I was both excited, and scared at the same time! Freedom called last week to confirm my medication delivery, so that was definitely a step in the right direction! My meds will be delivered on 08/20! I start Lupron on 08/22.
I also got my instructions from RE's nurse for dosages, and none of it was a surprise except for one thing. I didn't talk about this last time, but we ended up having ICSI last minute. We knew it was a possibility but we didn't find out for sure until ER day. DH has a skin issue that constricts his urethra, and while his sperm count, motility and morphology are all perfect, he doesn't have great volume. I think the last sample was 1.7 or something. The embryologist didn't think that was enough to fertilize 16 eggs, so we agreed that if his samples was under 3 I think, we would go ahead with ICSI.
Needless to say, it was, so we went ahead with that. My clinic is close to where I work but the hospital I go to for ER and ET is 1.5 hours away from work, and 2 hours away from our house. So once I start the ER process, I switch nurses, to the nurses up at the hospital. Right after ER, the nurse at the hospital asked me if I had been taking Medrol and I told her I hadn't. She kind of paused, but then she crossed out the instructions for it on my discharge paperwork.
I got home a couple hours later and was taking a nap, when my regular nurse from RE's office called and woke me up. She is constantly confusing things, and missing things, so any call from her makes me nervous. She said "I had to call in a prescription for you that they said I forgot at the hospital. It's for the steroid Medrol for the ICSI. You can start taking it tonight." So I asked her if there was a problem, and she said "I don't think so? Something about fertilization.."
I immediately started panicking. Something about fertilization?? Oh because that's not going to freak me out after I just woke up and was a little woozy from the meds anyway! So I called up to the hospital and spoke to the nurse and she calmed me down and said that they did ICSI because the sample was small and that it wasn't ICSI rescue because they wouldn't fertilize. That made me feel better. Then she said, "I heard the embryologist say they were doing ICSI and I panicked because you told me earlier that you weren't on Medrol, so I told M (nurse at clinic) to get you on it!" She explained to me that with ICSI they really need you to take Medrol so that your body doesn't reject the embryos. UGH! I was not happy with my other nurse.
So I started Medrol, went through my cycle, it didn't work, and here I am. I got my instructions for meds on Saturday, and when I looked at them it said they were just going to go ahead with ICSI, which I knew, and then it said to begin the Medrol pack the night of my trigger. Now I am upset because that means I'll have been taking Medrol for 5 days before ET and last time I had only been taking it for 3. I am sure that's not what made the difference, but these mistakes that M makes just make me insane. If they thought I may need ICSI, they should have started it when I triggered and then stopped it if it wasn't needed.
Here's hoping this cycle runs a little bit more smoothly!

@Sunshine1810: I'm so sorry that the nurse at your clinic seemed to be confused about what the protocol should have been. If it helps at all we did ICSI because of count issues and I was not on Medrol or anything else other than Prometrium and our cycle worked out.

@lazypanda: Sounds like things are moving along. Has the RE mentioned any other tests you should have done before starting your cycle?
@Mrs.Pinecone316: How are you feeling?
pear / 1556 posts
@mrswin: Good to know! I am starting to read up on Medrol a little bit and it seems like some clinics use it and some don't so I am guessing that had nothing to do with my failed cycle. I just hate the mix ups! Talk about adding more stress to an already stressful situation.
pomegranate / 3533 posts
@Sunshine1810: What a frustrating mix-up! I bet you're right, though...there may be some minor statistical difference and either your RE is a believer or not (mine does use Medrol with ICSI cycles). Here's hoping for a completely smooth and successful cycle this time! Sending lots and lots of good vibes your way!

@Sunshine1810: Ahh! Only a month away now! I'm so excited for you. Sorry about the mix-up last time. I hope everything goes smoothly this cycle for you. That nurse sounds like something else! I had an "interesting" nurse this time around. (I'm being nice) She made quite a few mistakes (fixed luckily) and wasn't helpful. All the other IVF nurses there are great, but she isn't and I kept getting stuck with her a bunch of visits. She even drew my "bullseyes" that I requested for the trigger and PIO over my sciatic nerve. Thank gosh a different nurse the next day when I questioned the location told me that and fixed it! Anyway, I'm super excited for you to get started!! Oh, and I took the Medrol pack starting the night of the retrieval. Can't remember if I did the last IVF, but it was mandatory this time with my clinic.
@mrswin: That's great news!!!! I admit I was a tad worried since you didn't post. I'm so thrilled for you!!!
Thinking of you Mrs. Pinecone!! Hope you are feeling better!!
So I'm a total idiot and kicking myself now. I knew I should wait at least until Tuesday to test because if not, I'd be upset. Well, I tested in the middle of the night (I know, I'm nuts) and again this morning and both BFN's. So now I'm sad. I know it is early, but still sad about it. Why in the world didn't I just wait? Oh well, I'll try again tomorrow!!

@Jenn23: How many days now? Everything crossed that it's still early and you see another line soon!
nectarine / 2433 posts
@Jenn23: Sorry to worry you I was pretty stressed out when they didn't call on Friday.
You still have plenty of time to get a FX that you get a positive in the next couple of days.
pear / 1556 posts
@Jenn23: Yikes, the nurse you had sounds just as bad as mine! Thanks for the feedback on the Medrol. Now I am starting to wonder if she wrote up the instructions I got over the weekend wrong??? It seems like most people take it starting the night of retrieval like I did the first time. UGH! It is definitely too early for you to test, but I know you already know that! I'm really hoping for a positive for you!!!!

Our ultrasound is scheduled for 08/25! How am I going to make it through another TWW???!!
pomegranate / 3533 posts
@mrswin: It's all about waiting...another 34 or so weeks of waiting.
persimmon / 1085 posts
@FliegepilzHut: Today is 7dp3dt. Thanks!! I hope you are doing OK.
@mrswin: I can only imagine how you felt when they didn't call Friday. So two weeks until the first ultrasound. Yay!! Hope the next two weeks fly by!!
@Sunshine1810: I did get a BFP this day last IVF, so I was hoping that would be the case again this time, even though I know it is early. Although that one was in the evening, not the morning. I just can't believe I'm doing middle of the night tests. I've lost my mind!! lol I would ask the nurse about the Medrol once you get closer. Sorry this has been so confusing for you. That's all you need during IVF! I bet this process will be much better and I know you are going to get your BFP this time!!!!!

Oh, funny story I forgot to share. Two nights ago during my PIO injection, my husband said something funny (he generally just talks about anything and everything to distract me while he administers the shot) but because it was funny I got a case of the giggles and started laughing. While he is injecting the progesterone. So my body started shaking and he said, "hold still" and I started laughing more and still shaking. Then he started laughing and said, "Oh my gosh, I can't believe this" because he was trying so hard to push on the syringe and I was making it very, very difficult. I laughed throughout the rest of the shot. It was quite an experience and I have to say that I never in my wildest dreams thought that I'd be cracking up laughing during a PIO shot!

@Jenn23: I think (according to this: http://www.nyufertilitycenter.org/ivf/embryo_transfer ) that your little one(s) are still settling in. I'm still very hopeful for you!!!
I'm doing alright. Hoping that all goes well after Friday (D+C). I'm still waiting to hear back about whether insurance will cover any of my recurrent loss work-up. Just taking it one day, one step at a time....
pear / 1556 posts
@Jenn23: You had a 5 day last time though, right? Unfortunately most people have to wait a little longer with the 3. Boo!! And, I don't think you are crazy at all! It is SO hard to wait! I am definitely going to follow-up with the nurse again about the Medrol, I just don't have the energy right at the moment. We'll save that for another day!
persimmon / 1085 posts
@FliegepilzHut: I've read that chart and don't get it, since I clearly had a BFP at 5dp5dt last time. (Had tested the trigger out a few days before) I think my blast that took must have already been hatching so maybe more advanced? I don't know. But that was and today is 4 days before AF due and many women do get BFP's that early. So I'm not sure why the chart says that HCG isn't in your system yet. Oh well, I'll keep testing! I'm sorry you have to have the d&c on Friday. I will be thinking of you.
Oh and yes, my husband wasn't phased at all with me laughing. I couldn't have done that to somebody who was laughing in the midst of the shot! Forgot to say that when he finished, I laughed even harder! Last night's was back to the normal " brace for it and grit my teeth". I preferred the laughing experience.
@Sunshine1810: Wait, with a 3 day you have to wait longer? I didn't know that. I thought the two were interchangeable. (like 3dp7dt was the same as 5dp5dt) It isn't? If that's the case, that makes me happier. Yes, deal with that another day when you have the energy.
pear / 1556 posts
@Jenn23: Oh I think it probably does average out like that, but my doctor just said it would take a little longer for me to know if it worked than it does with people who had a 5dt. I am so hopeful for you!
pear / 1556 posts
@Jenn23: One of my friends didn't get her bfp until 10dp3dt, and I don't think that was completely out of the ordinary.
pomegranate / 3533 posts
@Jenn23: At 5dp5dt, you were presumably only a day ahead of the curve (and the FRER are VERY sensitive). There must be a little variability in all this... Hang in there! How are you feeling otherwise?
Ah...the things that IF makes us do. I do not miss those nightly injections one bit...although I was more than happy to keep doing them at the time.. Thank you! I appreciate the good thoughts!

@Sunshine1810: That sounds frustrating! We've done ICSI all four times, and I've never been on Medrol. Never even heard of it! Perhaps I need to read up!

Hi all. Just wanted to pop back in with an update. Bloodwork confirmed today that I'm no longer pregnant, so I guess my BFPs were just signaling a chemical pregnancy. I'm just so sad about it, it's so rough to keep having failure after failure. Ugh. I wish I were ten years younger, so I'd have better eggs to work with and more time to try.
nectarine / 2433 posts
Can someone reassure me that it is totally normal at this point to not have any real symptoms? I'm tired and seem to have to pee more often. I have had a couple of bouts of nausea but other than that I feel pretty normal.....I'm sure I will regret even asking this later!
nectarine / 2433 posts
@momazon: I'm so sorry to hear about your chemical. Have you and your DH explored any further testing to see if it could be related to any other issues (i.e. chromosomal, autoimmune, etc)?

@momazon: I'm so sorry
@mrswin: how far along are you? My MS kicked in around 6 weeks both successful (so far) pregnancies. Being tired and going to the bathroom more are real symptoms!!
nectarine / 2433 posts
@swedishfish: According to the calculator I have I am 5 weeks tomorrow, I know its early but I don't know what to expect so I am just wondering if it is normal or not....
kiwi / 613 posts
@mrswin: @swedishfish: Thank you. I'm sure we will get there one day (if not with my 37-year eggs, maybe with donor eggs!), but I'm just so ready now. We did some testing and genetic testing pre-IVF, but we have a WTF appt with our RE on Friday am to discuss how to move forward. Luckily I signed up for the guarantee program through my clinic, so I have 6 fresh cycle tries for one price (plus meds), so I think we can continue trying (unless we get kicked out of the program!)
@mrswin: Last time I was pregnant, the only symptom other than tiredness that I had was that my boobs felt like they grew a full cup size randomly one evening in the 5th week. Ha! Mine are usually quite small, but all of a sudden they felt crazy pillowy! Haha!
pomegranate / 3533 posts
@momazon: Rats... I'm sorry. Thinking of you! I'm glad that you have more tries ahead!
@mrswin: I know I'm not the poster child for successful pregnancy...but I know for a fact that my HCG levels can be really high with only very subtle symptoms. Maybe you are one of the "lucky" few! (BTW-- it seems to run in families...but I guess some people also have very different experiences between individual pregnancies, I guess...so I don't know if that holds.) Sending lots of good thoughts your way!!!

Looks like we'll be back to IVF in a few months, now that we've lost this little one.

@mrswin: So happy to hear your beta doubled!
@FliegepilzHut: My first sono is Aug 26th!
@Sunshine1810: That is so interesting about ICIS and steroids. I was on a low dose steroid during my cycle but had no idea it had anything to do with that. Sorry you have had some frustrating experiences with your nurses!
@Jenn23: Don't worry to much hun! I looked at testing early and getting a BFN as a positive because it meant there was still hope the next day. I was more afraid of waiting to test until when it was sure to be there and seeing nothing. FX for you!!
@momazon: I am so so sorry... Wish I could say something to make you feel better. Do you know what your next steps will be? Hang in there...
@FliegepilzHut: Hoping your insurance covers testing!
@jaguar: I am so sorry for you loss:( Praying for you during this sad time. We are here for you.
AFM... Life has been rough with this OHSS. I went to the ER yesterday. I have gained 12 pounds of fluid in my stomach/back this week. I have never hurt so bad and been more miserable:( They gave me stronger pain meds but nothing helps. My RE thinks I am just peaking and it should start going down soon but it is really hard to feel any bit of optimism right now. Every day I feel like It can't get worse then it does the next day. Def been the longest week of my life.

@jaguar: I'm sorry for your loss.
I'll try to catch up tomorrow. Right now I'm pretty exhausted from these stims. I'm so uncomfortable that I'm wondering if this is normal. I'm bloated, headachy, nauseated, and my ovaries feel so heavy. I didn't do anything today except go to Walgreens and I almost puked while doing the dishes.
Tomorrow I'm going in for monitoring. I may be triggering tomorrow night for an ER on Thurs. I can't wait to move to the next step.
I'm also super angry because my husband's wheelchair stopped working and the company can't fix it right away. I was waiting for a part because it has been flashing an error message on the screen. Well it finally crapped out and they part they were supposed to order 2 weeks ago isn't in yet. Tomorrow I have to either take him to physical therapy in a manual wheelchair that have to push, or cancel the appointment. Sorry for the vent

@Mrs.Pinecone316: oh wow, I really hope your RE is correct and this was the peak. Rest up and feel better soon!

@Mrs.Pinecone316: oh my that sounds awful! I'm sorry they can't do more for you, but I hope the worst is over.
