@agold: Thank you! I'm upset, but like you said it is what it is. If we want to feel complete in our family, apparently, this is the way we need to do it. No plans, but what did you end up planning? I should do more research, but I feel like I'm taking all the supplements that I should be. I should cut out grains and go gluten and sugar free, but the key word is should. It's so hard!!!

@NorthStar: Thanks chick. Our clinic shuts over the weekend, so we'll get a final update tomorrow (Friday) when whatever hasn't already died is day 4.. they'll grade and freeze any suitable morulas. x
nectarine / 2192 posts
@jaguar: I was hoping for your update. Is the 15 fertilized the latest?
IUI#2 done. Post wash count was 51.2 million- Not as good but still plenty. I start prednisone Friday and ovidrel booster Sunday. Then the waiting...

@NorthStar: I planned to change my diet a lot. But I didn't. So I'm doing it starting now, since I start my meds tomorrow. I just looked up lots of IVF diets and they all were basically the same. No butter, red meat, caffeine, refined sugars, white rice, white flour, sugary drinks. Stuff like that. And no alcohol. Ugh. My husband and I opening a bottle of champagne we've been stashing for a year or so tonight to celebrate what hopefully will be my last night drinking for a while. Oh yea. We are also BBQing steaks. Ha. So yea. IVF-dietary changes start tomorrow.

@jaguar: I'm hoping for the best for you! Its so crazy to hear that you were feeling fine after the retrieval, but you still couldn't go forward with the fresh transfer. I hate hormones. Will they freeze the embryos at day 4 or day 5?
pear / 1881 posts
@agold: lol - you crack me up! I guess I better start meal planning now, huh? That's a lot of things to cut out, but the sugars, white rice and flour will be the hardest for me. But, it's worth it, right?!
grapefruit / 4045 posts
@AmeliaBedilia: But IUIs really don't need that much sperm, so you have a great number to work with! Oh the waiting... You will get through it! Are you a drink-through-the-TWW type of girl or no?
grapefruit / 4045 posts
@NorthStar: It really is a lot of planning! And I'm such a total dummy sometimes. Like, what are refined sugars? And red meat - does that include sausage and bacon? One "do" I saw was hummus. Hooray! I do like that. Maybe I'll just eat hummus, chicken and citrus foods and call myself safe with those.
nectarine / 2192 posts
@agold: I rarely drink anyway, so it usually is not an issue. The sugar and breads are my weakness. I think this 2WW will be even worse because next month is a timing issue. I have an amazing 5 day work conference at the end of the month I was chosen for 1.5 years ago, and it looked like we'd have to skip monitoring and IUI but could try femara and TI. Then my cycle has been short here and there, and I might ovulate the day I return or earlier. I'm so disappointed. It's worse knowing this is probably our last chance for two months.
nectarine / 2192 posts
@agold: Those are fine, plus lots of fruits and vegetables. Eastern medicine suggests soups.
pear / 1881 posts
@agold: At least you will be done before the holidays! That would be the worst and I should be hitting a BFP (hopefully), right before thanksgiving! I cannot believe that I'm worried about being able to eat a normal Thanksgiving dinner. lol

@agold: Day 4. x
@AmeliaBedilia: Yep, we don't know more than that. We always lose a lot between day 3-5 so I don't know what to even hope for.
grapefruit / 4045 posts
@AmeliaBedilia: Good to know. I could live off of lentil soup. I also plan to do a juice cleanse or two between now and my hopeful-fresh embryo transfer to reduce inflammation.
@NorthStar: How horrible of us to be so concerned about eating! There is a little town carnival coming up next week. I've gone to it every year of my life and its the only time I eat a funnel cake. Ever. Do I pass up the funnel cake? If not, do I pass up a german beer? Ugh. Its always a slippery slope with me.
grapefruit / 4045 posts
@jaguar: Day 4 is great! Do you know why you lose a lot during this process or is it an unexplained thing?
grapefruit / 4045 posts
@AmeliaBedilia: I do love sugars and breads, also. I'm so sorry that your timing isn't working out just right. I found that there is really never a month where I am just wide open. I scheduled my IVF at a very inconvenient time for me. But I had to bow out of things at work and I simply made it happen. I'm sure you will find a time that's right, or you will make the time be right.

@agold: This is our history (and no, no real reason given, except the strongest embies are the ones that will survive)
IVF #1 - 5 eggs/2 fertilised/1 day 3 embryo tx
IVF #2 - 3 eggs/3 fertilised/1 day 5 embryo tx (DD!!!) + 2 frosties (Loss 1 & 2)
IVF #3 - 13 eggs/10 fertilised - resulted in only 1 morula & 1 3-day embryo alive. No blasts.
IVF #4 - 10 eggs/8 fertilised - resulted in only 1 morula alive. No blasts.
So if I seem less than enthusiastic about having the 15 fertilise on day 1, I'm not being a debbie downer - we just have terrible luck with them, so I'm preparing for the worst.
honeydew / 7968 posts
@jaguar: just curious, how were your hormones? I had 19 retrieved and my hormones were borderline, but we went ahead w fresh transfer.
kiwi / 538 posts
@Amorini: Plain old cardboard box. Freedom Fertility really has their sh*t together :).
I'm feeling really overwhelmed right now as well. Holy crap that pile of needles! But at this point it's like- let's just get on with it already! Starting the meds on Saturday will at least be the start of something.
grapefruit / 4045 posts
@jaguar: Hey. You don't at all seem like a debbie downer. Four IVF cycles is four too many for anyone to have to go through. That is a lot of work and stress. But you know your eggs work because you have your little daughter. I'm so hoping that this last cycle works out for you. Rest and look forward to a good FET!
@dookie32: I'm starting my meds tonight! You, me and @Amorini: are all so close!
Is anyone else starting IVF meds now or soon?
pomegranate / 3764 posts
So we found out today that out of the 19 eggs retrieved, and the 15 fertilised embryos that were reported on day 1, we had 8 embryos frozen today. (Day 4) No idea on grading or what they're like, but I am hopeful that they would only freeze decent ones... so I'll chase up for more information on Monday when they're back in the office.
And now.... more waiting.
persimmon / 1114 posts
@jaguar: that is great! 8 gives you a lot to work with! Hopefully this is it!
grapefruit / 4045 posts
@jaguar: Eight is great! That is an amazing number to work with. That's actually the number I'm hoping to hit. Celebrate the small stuff. Worry about grading and such next week!

@dookie32: Good luck with starting your meds tonight! Which one(s) will you be taking tonight?
nectarine / 2192 posts
@dookie32: Sending good thoughts your way!
@jaguar: Hope your wait is going quickly. I'm praying for a good update.
pomegranate / 3764 posts
@AmeliaBedilia: No more updates from me yet - since they froze on Friday, I'm just waiting on grading and some info about what they were like.. then it's another few cycles wait!
How are you guys?
grapefruit / 4045 posts
@jaguar: The waiting is awful, I'm sure. I hope you are distracting yourself. As for me, I'm on night three of my shots. Three shots a night right now. Except every other night, when I need four because my follistim vial ran out. Ugh. And I'm dreading the progesterone shots. Just dreading them!
persimmon / 1132 posts
@jaguar: congrats on your 8 embies!
@AmeliaBedelia: good luck with your trigger today! Is that a IM shot? Will you have a 2ww plus two-day wait again?
Fellow IVF newbies: how are these first days of needles going? I did my first injection this morning. It wasn't so bad. The most difficult part is being super-disciplined and making sure I'm doing it the same time of the morning. It would be different if it were evenings, but I'm not much of a morning person and, as a result, I'm also a bit free-form in my routines. So I maybe figured out a way for DH to be part of injections (since he can't stand needles and I'm doing them myself): he sets the alarm, wakes me up (since I sleep through them) and keeps me disciplined. It worked this morning anyway.
Does leuprolide have any annoying side effects, btw? I'm doing just leuprolide and continuing with BCPs for another five days or so.
Otherwise, the big news for us is that we got a puppy yesterday. We've been wanting a second dog for years, so why wait? She's a handful but a wonderfully, cute distraction at the moment.
grapefruit / 4045 posts
@AmeliaBedilia: Is it time for another IUI for you?!? Woo hoo! Good luck!
@Amorini: I haven't been doing my shots at the same time every night, but I do them within a general timeframe. I did lueprolide for three nights. Tonight's my fourth night of shots and I'm happy to drop one needle from my routine. I thought the leuprolide needle was the worst needle. It seemed thicker and harder to get into my skin. According to my husband, I put the needles really slowly into me. I can't imagine shoving it in like a dart, though. I haven't noticed any side effects at all. I still feel normal and fine. I don't go for my monitoring appointment until Tuesday morning when I will have done five nights of shots. I was calendared to go Monday but its labor day so I guess the doctor didn't want to come in.
Congrats on your new puppy! What kind did you get and whats her name? What kind of dog do you already have? I love love love dogs but we don't have one.
nectarine / 2192 posts
@agold: So glad you're not having side effects. I had my second IUI Wednesday. Two follicles from the femara, 20mm and 22mm. He used "perfect" and "beautiful" so that was encouraging. Postwash count was 51 million- not as good, but fine. IUI was done 15 hours after trigger- he said anytime between 12 and 36 hours had the same pregnancy rates. I'm taking prednisone and just did my ovidrel booster to help my progesterone (short LP), so now just waiting 3DPO.
@Amorini: Congrats on the new puppy- what breed and name? I want a Cavalier, but we're moving around Christmas (whenever the renovation is done), so it doesn't make sense now.
pomegranate / 3764 posts
@Amorini: Woohoo! We got our Golden Retriever after our first IVF failed back in 2012, and he got us through some really tough times.
grapefruit / 4045 posts
@jaguar: I love Golden Retrievers!!
@AmeliaBedilia: King Charles Cavaliers are adorable! And begninning of the year sounds like a great time to get a new puppy. And how awesome to be moving into a newly renovated home. Lucky girl! That's got to offer some nice distractions.
kiwi / 538 posts
@Amorini: I've been doing mine at night within a 3 hr window. It seems not too bad so far. I'm doing the Gonal F pen and then 2 vials of Menopur. The pen is really easy- that one I hardly feel at all. The Menopur is a little more tricky with the mixing. I was worried I did it wrong because I had less liquid in the needle than I started with but I read online that that's normal. That one definitely burned a little. Tonight I tried icing first and it seemed to help. I'm just wondering how long it will take until I start feeling uncomfortable or have any side effects.
Yea for your new puppy! What's her name?
grapefruit / 4045 posts
@dookie32: Last night I had less liquid in my menopur needle than I started with also! I freaked out and then just ignored it. I'm glad you looked it up and its fine. Phew. I've been dragging my feet about giving myself the shots tonight. I'm watching bachelor in paradise and I guess I'll get to mixing the menopur. Ugh. Hate it!
persimmon / 1132 posts
@dookie32: @jaguar: @agold: @AmeliaBedilia: We named her Margot. She is a Bernese Mountain Dog like her big bro. She loves her brother but he is still figuring out what just happened to his world!
