AF came as expected this morning. This is our second failed FET with a PGS normal embie. DD was the result of our only fresh transfer and was not PGS tested. I feel so deflated and confused. PGS testing was supposed to help us. My progesterone levels were fine. I’m not sure if I should push my RE to change to a medicated protocol or what. We conceived naturally (our TFMR) between DD and now, too. I think maybe that gave us all false hope that I had more normal cycles than I do? Do I push for more hormone monitoring? We were doing USs to check my lining and all looked good. We only have 4 enbies left now.

@Yellowbeach: I'm sorry it didn't take on the second round I have no experience with IVF, but there is a forum that is fairly active, and they get into a lot of detail about IVF: http://www.dcurbanmom.com/jforum/forums/show/27.page

It's a forum for people living in Washington DC, but most of the questions and answers have nothing to do with the location. Maybe you've already heard of it, but again, these ladies get into minute details regarding IVF. Hoping someone over there can answer your question

@yellowbeach: Ugh. I'm so sorry. We are planning to do PGS testing and I keep thinking what I would do if we had our first PGS testing embryo fail to implant. I think I would push for a Endometrial Receptivity Array - to rule out needing an additional day of progesterone. How long was your LP this cycle? In your case, I'd prob push for a medicated cycle. I'm not sure I could do the same protocol a third time without having success. Have you had a chance to speak with your RE? Hugs.

I'm starting to feel pretty full down there. Friday I added Ganirelix to my nightly injections. Still showing a estimated 20 growing follicles. I was told this morning we are looking at a Thursday or Friday retrieval. Excited but so nervous!

@thepaperbutterfly: Thanks for the link - some great threads on that board.

@MrsLavender: Of course all this played out over the weekend, but I messaged them the news of AFs arrival, so I expect to hear something from them tomorrow by lunch or so. I'll probably have to come in for an appointment to discuss different options.

@yellowbeach: I'm so sorry to hear this. I agree with MrsLavender, I think I'd ask for a medicated cycle after this, at least with more hormone monitoring to help ensure everything is optimal for transfer. I hope your RE can get back in touch with you asap. Thinking of you.

@Mrs Lavender: Exciting! I was nervous most for the IV during retrieval, because my poor arms were so tired of being poked at that point. I hope it goes very smoothly and you feel better asap afterward. Are they worried about OHSS?

@yellowbeach: I've been lurking in this thread through my own IVF journey but your story compelled me to post. I'm so, so sorry for the results of your latest transfer. My DS is 2.5 and was also conceived via our first FET, but was not PGS tested. In TTC #2, we have also experienced 2 failed FETs with PGS normal embryos (well, one chemical and one BFN). It's very difficult to to accept because of the reassurance I felt in doing PGS. We have 2 left and are transferring again in 3 weeks. My cycles have been fully medicated so while I don't really have anything useful to add, I just wanted to let you know you're not alone. I don't see an abundance PGS failures in the internet sleuthing that I've done.

@rousseae: thank you. We do have quite similar stories. The only reason I think maybe a medicated cycle would be better is because our fresh transfer was and it worked, and these two were natural and both failed.

The odd thing is all my levels and monitoring have been normal. I have clockwork regular cycles. So I see why they didn’t recommend medicated right out of the gate. Sitting here waiting to get a beta drawn just to make sure this isn’t ectopic (I know it’s not). Hope to see the RE later this week and talk about a plan.

@yellowbeach: Thinking of you, waiting for a beta that you know is negative is heartbreaking. Please update with your plan going forward

@yellowbeach: I am so so sorry to read this news of your latest transfer. I can totally relate to your confusion and feeling like WTF? You've done EVERYTHING you can and you're not getting the result you want. It is just not fair and makes no sense. I hope your RE has some good ideas for what to do moving forward. I hope you know you are not alone and we are all rooting for you. You are super lucky to have 4 tested embryos left. That is a serious IVF gold mine. It just takes one so try to stay strong and positive....but also allow yourself to be angry and sad right now--all those feeling are 100% valid. Sending you so much love and understanding hugs...

@rousseae @MrsPajamas: Thank you both. Beta was of course negative. I have an appointment for Thursday with my RE to discuss next steps. I was pretty direct about wanting to try something different so we will see what he recommends. I was really hoping to be pregnant again before the due date if our loss for TFMR (12/2) but it’s not looking hopeful.

@foodiebee: Also scared about the IV. I was told my ovaries are officially kissing this morning. Most likely I'll be triggering later today or tomorrow. When the nurse calls me later today I'm going to ask her to send me my updated labs. OHSS is a risk but I think I'll be ok! When is your first ultrasound?

  15. Mrs Lavender

    apricot / 302 posts

@foodiebee: Of course now that I'm googling "kissing ovaries" I'm worried about OHSS. Apparently, they are related.

  16. foodiebee

    kiwi / 662 posts

@Mrs Lavender: Oh no! "Kissing ovaries" sounds uncomfortable. I think Gatorade is supposed to help with OHSS. Maybe start it early? I found every day post-retrieval to be increasingly stressful because of how few eggs we had, so I hope your numbers make that time easier.

    Our first u/s is 10/23!

@Mrs. Pajamas: hi! Yes, he was born 9/27! Im losing my mind with this lack of sleep though. He wakes every single night for 30-40 minutes, then sleeps 60-90 minutes for a good stretch, 30 if he's being difficult. I love him floppy little cuddles right now, but I'm so ready for newborn stage to be over.

So I just got home from an appointment with my RE. I'm CD6. We discussed reasons we thought my last 2 FETs might have failed, and decided to so a saline sonogram to look for any scar tissue or obstruction from my D&C. Fortunately all looks normal, but because we did the test today, we have to wait a cycle to do a transfer. So my hopes of being pregnant again before our due date of our loss are zapped, but worse would have been burning through all 6 of our embryos and then finding out on a SIS that I had scar tissue.

We also agreed that next transfer we'll do medicated with estrogen pills during the follicular phase and then progesterone injections during the luteal phase and until 12 weeks if it takes.

@Mrs Lavender: Hooray!! Sending so many good thoughts!

@yellowbeach: So glad you have a plan, but it stinks to have to wait a cycle. There's so much waiting in TTC. It's really hard. Are you feeling good about the estrogen + PIO plan?

@foodiebee: Mostly feeling good about trying something different and not just burning through all our embryos. I did ok with meds on our retrieval and fresh transfer, so I'm not worried about the process so much.

@yellowbeach: agree with everything @foodiebee said. SO. MUCH. F'ing. WAITING. the worst. I can so relate from my experiences. But definitely good to check any possible issues ahead of time.

@yellowbeach: @foodiebee: Thanks girls! So far so good... They were able to retrieve 25 eggs, 23 of them were mature and 20 fertilized with ICSI. As of day 3 all embryos have started development and are stage appropriate. I almost wish I didn't get these updates - so nerve wracking! I know these results are great so far and I'm staying hopeful, but after years of infertility it's hard to not think something tragic will happen.

If my cycle doesn't start by Wednesday, I'll be on the next FET schedule. Which means I won't be able to do my transfer until Jan! I was really hoping to transfer in December. So I'm a little bummed about that.

I'll update on day 5. Thank you for the thoughts ladies!

foodiebee, I'll be thinking of you tomorrow!

@Mrs Lavender: You go, girl! So glad to hear it's going well! And yes, waiting each day for updates was maybe the most nerve-wracking part for us too. But with 20 still growing, I think you can be truly hopeful and positive that you'll have a little one when this is all said and done.

@Mrs Lavender: Amazing numbers! Grow grow grow little embryos!

Not the greatest news today. None of my embryos were able to be biopsied or frozen today. They will check them again tomorrow (day 6) and possibly day 7. I'm really scared none will make it to blast. Does anyone have experience with slower growing embryos? Any specific questions I should ask?

  34. PurplePumps

    pomegranate / 3809 posts

@Mrs Lavender: I've never had a lot of embryos to begin with (average 25 eggs retrieved, of which only 7-9 were mature and fertilized, but about 4 good day 3s, and then 1 or 2 blasts). But I did have some day 6 blasts that were frozen and PGS normal. My now 1 month old is the result of a day 6 blast. If all your embryos were good at day 3, I'd ask about dna fragmentation testing, or PICSI. I've heard that if things degrade dramatically after day 3, it could be more of a sperm issue than egg cause that's when the sperms dna become active.

Much better update today! They were able to biopsy and freeze 8 embryos as well as freeze an additional 3. I have 11, day 6, frozen blasts! They are going to let the rest grow to day 7. Anyone have any facts on day 7 embryos? Google isn't much help. I'll get the grades tomorrow.

@PurplePumps: Thank you for responding! Dna fragmentation testing was on my list of things to look into. DH SA wasn't horrible but does has 4% morph and B motility. When we did our IUIs his sample was always better the second IUI which I thought was odd - we did 2 in a cycle. Apparently, this is one sign of fragmentation. I'm really hoping it's not an issue. Congrats on your 1 month old!

@foodiebee: Thank you. This is an emotional roller coaster for sure. Now the wait for pgs.. ugh. I hope your u/s went well!

    @Mrs Lavender: Any updates?

AFM, today is CD1 and I have an appointment with my RE tomorrow morning for a baseline US and to discuss meds for this transfer cycle. Last 2 cycles (we took last month off bc I had a saline sono) were supplemented natural FETs which both failed. I think we are going to look harder at meds this go around. We shall see. Only hiccup is scheduling with the holidays and a mini-vacay DH and I are trying to take the first week of Dec.

How's everyone else doing? The board has been sleepy these past 2 weeks.

@yellowbeach: I’m here! Glad to see your update. I’m curious to know what FET protocol your RE will suggest, please keep us posted. I’m starting with BC, Esterace and Lupron. I’m not sure my clinic does natural cycles, but now I’m curious and going to ask about it at my next appointment. The trip sounds perfect, hopefully you can make it happen! Where do you think you’ll go? DH and I decided to book a last minute trip to Florida after retrieval. I’m actually typing this at the pool, so excuse any typos!

In the end we ended up with 15 frozen embryos and sent 8 biopsys to PGS testing. Out if the 8, 5 came back normal! All embryos are either day 6/7 and hatching. 1 is fully hatched. We are very happy with the results. We decided to wait until after the holidays to transfer. Estimated transfer is scheduled for the second week in January.
