Hi, i work as an accounting clerk for a company where i dont see a future with and is a far commute from home, which is killing me slowly every day.
I have been applying for jobs for a few months now, had a few interviews but had no luck with getting hired.
Recently i heard of a government contractor job that was looking to hire close to my home and needed to fill the position as soon as possible.
So i applied, i got called right away, interviewed the following day. I never mentioned my being pregnant, it never came up and i didnt hide it.
So today i received an offer letter and they want me to star as soon as the 20th, all contingent on drug test, etc.
I am super excited and happy, but nervous that i will start work and will have to take time off 2 months later. My fear is that i will start working and will be let go due to my pregnancy.
So im not sure if to accept the offer first, take the drug test, and wait until they say im ok to work before mentioning my pregnancy, or should i bring it up before i accept?
This is a great opportunity ive been looking for forever, but i dont want to be dishonest and basically end up screwing myself.
Any tips and advice would b greatly appreciated.

Why would you say anything before you accept? They aren't allowed to discriminate against you for being pregnant. They aren't allowed to let you go for being pregnant. If this is a govt job, you'd have more protection thank in the private sector.
I guess I don't quite understand the concern. If v this is what you've been looking for, stop doubting and go for it!

So, is it full time or a contract position? What length of time are they promising?? If it's a short term contract I would tell them now, since you can only work for 2 months....actually, if it's long term I'd probably tell them now too. Are they providing benefits?

Now that you have the job offer, it is a perfect time to negotiate maternity leave. I'd respond "I'm very interested in the position, but would discuss leave before I can accept. I expect to need approximately 4 hours a week off for doctors appointments for the next two months that I can either take without pay or make up the hours. Additionally, I am expecting a baby in August and will need x weeks off. After this period I intend to return full time and do not anticipate needing any extended leave"
Congrats! And my dad's boss was hired at 9 months pregnant. She got the job and has been there for 20 years.

I would want to know how leave would work before accepting. What if you could only take a week or two of leave after delivery because you just joined the company? Would that affect your decision to take the job? If not I guess I would wait.
But I would explain to the hiring manager and ask to talk with HR. It is good to get those things in place before you start.

I would get the job offer in writing and then talk about leave.
My guess is they know and are still willing to accept you and the leave you'll need.
