Has anyone had this done? Is it worth it? Is it permanent?

@tlynne: I have. Not permanent, but gives you less hair for an extended period of time.

I had it done about 6 years ago now and I basically have no growth in the area. I was a prime candidate (fair skin, dark hair) and I really wish I had done it sooner!

Me! I had my entire bikini done, lower legs, arm pits, upper lip, and sideburns done. I have olive skin and dark hair and it worked out totally well. The only hair I have on my bikini area is the labia (typically never goes away with laser), but otherwise I have baby smooth skin. My arm pits have like 1-2 hairs and my lower legs have some fuzz. No sign of upper lip hair either.
I haven't shaved any of these areas in 5 years now...and I don't own a razor. Definitely worth it!

I had 6 treatments done in 2013 and I thought it was worth every penny! From those 6 treatments I saw about 80-90% hair loss, and 4 years later it's still about 60%. I'd love to do a few more treatments but we have a kid and a house now, so not as much disposable income.

@Mrs. Oreo: and anyone who has done their underarms, how many sessions did you need? I've always been curious about this but never seriously looked into it.

@lamariniere: I did 5 sessions every 5-6 weeks. I think my case was pretty textbook, luckily. If there's anything you wanna laser, the arm pits are a good choice. Not having to worry about it is such a luxury. It was actually the first one I did! Plus, if you have thick/coarse hair, your arm pits don't feel as rough after lasering.

I had my bikini and underarms done several years ago. I was a good candidate light skin and darker hair. It's pretty painful and I did not have good results.

@Mrs. Oreo: good to know. I'm also a dark hair-fair skin combo with regular to fine hair, so it seems like I would be a decent candidate.

Me! I had armpits, full legs and bikini done, with probably 80% reduction, maybe 8 years ago. I want to get a few more sessions everywhere to see if I can get it further. I love it! Also, very fair skin with dark hair.

I had my entire bikini area done (before my first pregnancy). I went to 3 of my 6 appointments before getting pregnant, and the hair was gone. As soon as my pregnancy hormones kicked in, it all came back.
Since then, I've done sugaring, and prefer that method as there is no need to shave first (which means I don't get razor burn).

Like @Littlejoy posted, I think it can grow back significantly once you get pregnant.

I'm 6 sessions in (they recommend 9) and I am in love and wondering why I didn't do it sooner. It took awhile to really see results because you have three different growth cycles of hair. But I have dark hair (light skin) and I basically don't have to shave any more. It's amazing

I had it done 11 years ago, with the older style lasers. very expensive, but effective enough. it grew back a little bit as you do need to do a maintenance session maybe once year. as soon as I fell pregnant and had babies, the hair grew back quite a lot.
I'm doing it again now, it is much much cheaper, much quicker, and the laser is not as painful. after 4 sessions I barely have any underarm hair - no shaving at all needed between a monthly session, maybe a few very fine faint hairs. other places like face/arms/bikini have also taken really well and only very few hairs.

@Mrs Green Grass: This makes me really hopeful. My first appointment is Saturday...and my mother thinks I'm nuts, lol

@youboots: I'm sorry to hear that you didn't get good results. Was it as painful as waxing? That's what I'm doing now, and between the mess and the OW! factor, I've been looking into this.

On the pain factor, it depends on location. It feels like being repeatedly snapped by a rubber band. So, less intense than waxing, but longer duration.

@tlynne: I just mean there are no guarantees with waxing. It's different pain. I really like European Wax center but would have preferred that later worked.

@tlynne: The laser is like a rubber band snap - over and over again. Every zap doesn't hurt, but the ones that do will surprise you ... and, I don't believe in TMI, but brace yourself: having an electric zap in your butt crack does NOT feel good! I prefer sugaring.

@tlynne: I had really bad ingrown hairs as a result of waxing, that's why I did the laser. I actually didn't have that much pain, I mean, yeah, its not pleasant but there's an end in sight. I would take two Tylenol about an hour before the procedure and there's also a topical numbing cream you can get.

@tlynne: I thought it was equal to, or slightly less painful than waxing. And it was completely worth it because you know it's much more permanent than waxing!

I've found that the Gentlelase Laser has been the least painful laser treatment for me so far - the freezing cold air really works in easing the zap!

Does anyone here have lighter hair? Is laser hair removal a total no go if the hair is lighter on light skin?
My leg hair and arm hair is basically all blonde. My underarms hair is darker--maybe a medium brown? Bikini area is brown. Would it only work on underarm and bikini?
