Gross, I know. DD usually is a great sleeper, but I've been up with her a significant amount since Mon night. I looked at her ear tonight and it was either a TON of wax or fluid was leaking out of her ear.
My son had a ton of ear infections but no leaking. Anyone else experience this with their LO??

My LO got a cold earlier this year and woke up with an outer ear full of nasty brown gunk. My pediatrician said it's usually they run a slight fever while sleeping, which heats up the inner ear and melts the wax and it runs out. Ick

Yep! Burst ear drum. My LO never showed signs of ear infections till we saw drainage.

Perforated tympanic membrane. Call peds for appointment and treatment and hopefully on the mend!

We took our LO into the doc last week because there was blood in her ear. It ended up being a scratch. The doctor said: "If there was fluid (clearish-yellow-tan), I'd be worried about a ruptured ear drum." --- I don't say that to worry you, but just passing on what we heard just last week.

@Smurfette: lovely! She's been very cranky at night but teachers at daycare are saying she's been fine during the day other than a runny nose.
@Mrs. Jacks: Closed until Jan. 6! So just my luck. We JUST got off antibiotics barely two weeks ago for flu and another ear infection. Hopefully there's a nurse line I can call.

@matador84: is there an instacare or minute clinic/urgent care. All you need is drops if it's unilateral or systemic antibiotic if it's both ears. Just need to find a provider

@matador84: if that is what it is, the painful part is over. Antibiotics and drops will clear it up.

@Mrs. Jacks: AH! I am so glad you mentioned that! They rx'ed is some antipyrene drops with the last ear infection...going to go drop some in while she's still sleeping!
@Smurfette: I never figure it's an ear infection until it's practically over. I always chalk it up to teething, cold, daycare germs. Bad of me!

@matador84: we usually recommend not doing anti-pyrene benzocaine when the TM is perforated. I was thinking of ofloxacin drops. Hopefully there's an on call prescriber who can help!

@matador84: my LO never shows signs of an ear infection. It sucks. She got tubes on Monday so fingers crossed no more burst ear drums.

@matador84: haven't had this happen with LO, but it did happen to me in my 20s. I can tell you it felt so much better after the war drum ruptured, such a relief. So if she was uncomfortable before, she's at least probably feeling better now. But my hearing sucked in the ear for a few weeks- like if I was sleeping with my good ear down and just didn't hear my alarm. Hope you can talk to a doc and get her taken care of.

@T.H.O.U.: I remember this well. Ruptured ear drum. They gave me some ear drops and she seemed fine!

@T.H.O.U.: Just had it happen last week with my 5 year old. Ruptured ear drum (I think it's technically the membranes around the ear drum). It was gross for a few days as all the junk drained out, but drops took care of it!
