We're switching day cares at the end of the month. DD has been in the same room for almost 5 months now. The main teacher has only been there for 1-1 1/2 months but the assistant has been there the entire time. She's also there every morning when I drop DD off. Is a goodbye gift appropriate and, if so, what? Is it bad if it's only for the assistant? And what about the kids - DD has been with the bulk of them since she started there a year ago. I see some of the parents on occasion. Do I bring a treat, leave goodbye notes, etc.?

When LO left her first daycare, we gave Starbucks cards to each of her 3 main teachers. I don't think you need to do anything for the kids. I would include both teachers or feelings might be hurt.

As for the teachers - who cares what they think, you will be gone! haha
If you only want to gift one then gift one -
I would probably just peace out and do nothing unless they did a super awesome job. Think about it, if a teacher is leaving, they're not gifting you, the parent, lol!

@LindsayInNY: I have always been a huge gift giver at DCP - birthdays, holidays, teacher appreciation, etc.
But when it came time to leave, I just left. I gave the teachers hugs and thanked them for all they did for my kids and that was that. -
We gifted some new board books to the room. She had only been there for a few months before we switched locations but her main teacher was super lovely helping LO adjust to daycare. LO looooves books so we figured they'd remember her by her partying gift!
ETA: I also wrote a card. She hadn't been there long enough for any other gift giving things so this was it!

@Mamaof2: I felt exactly the same as you.
I think a card is a nice gesture, as is an email to the director, to say how wonderful the teacher was.

We gave envelopes with a thank you note and a small cash gift to each teacher, and a big box of chocolate for all of them. B helped decorate the envelopes.
It felt rather inadequate considering that was his second home for three years, but E was teething and that was the best DH and I could come up with in our sleep deprived state.

We gave heartfelt thank-you notes with Starbucks cards to all four of her teachers (two in the infant room, two in the toddler room) that had cared for her during her time there.

I felt like I wanted to do something, it was DD's first childcare experience and a tough transition for her and me going back to work so I really appreciated all that they had done and wanted to do something. I had a card for each of them and some fun, fancy donuts from a local shop. I also got mini cupcakes for the class but it was also right before a holiday so sort of to celebrate that as well. I agree the card and note to the director probably meant the most to them but I just wanted to do something additional to show my gratitude.

@LindsayInNY: when LO was leaving her daycare she had been there for 3 years so we were very attached to everyone. we gave treat bags to the kids and gift cards and candy to the teachers. In your situation I would do whatever you can afford it could be as simple as $10 starbucks giftcards or just bringing in a box of donuts for the adults and munchkins for the little ones.

We sent an Edible Arrangement to my son's teachers the day before he left. He was there for two years and had spent time in both toddler and preschool rooms so I felt weird if we didn't gift anything to the toddler teachers since they still worked there.

Since she's only been there a few months I wouldn't bother.

It's a nice gesture but no not after a few months. Spend the money for small Christmas gifts at the new daycare.

We left our first wonderful daycare after two months (scheduled to be that timeframe from the beginning). They were awesome, and I did a large tray of baked goods from a local bakery on her last morning for all the staff to share , along with a heartfelt card for her teachers.

Babies are leaving the daycare after being there for 2 months. It's an on-site daycare so they will be back for drop-in care in the future. We knew all a long that we would only be there full time for 2 months until we moved and found an au pair.
They all have been so nice and the babies and I will miss them.
Plus it's Christmas, so I'm going to get them something.
I think I'm going to get them Coffee to go cups from Dunkin Donuts or Starbucks and a gift card. Maybe a picture of the twins.
