@allison: I'd love to provide any insight that I can, but definitely don't have all the answers! Both our business and farm are thriving and we love it!!

We bought our donut shop in 2009, and business is growing every year. The shop is in a small town (population of 3,100) and love the close-knit community. We are a mom and pop shop so we use our own recipes and purchase from our own vendors, which can be PIA sometimes due to minimum orders necessary to fulfill the quote in order for them to deliver it to you, but I love that we don't have to pay any franchise fees/royalties and can alter the menu any way and anytime we want!

Farm: we purchased 21.5acres that came with a manufactured home and a cell tower. We don't own the cell tower, but do lease out the piece of property in which the tower is on. We have 8 cows, and are in the process of learning to grow beautiful hay that's weed and all sorts of crap free. First major work we had to do to the land was mow and spray it down to get rid of weeds and clear the property of dead trees. THe second major work we just got finished with was installing a new fence on two of the 4 sides. The previous fence wasn't built well, and couldn't salvage the old barb wire.

    Hope this provides some insight!

@hergreenapples: Oh, awesome!!! I love it, though don't know if I'll really see "the road" ever again as much as I previously did with LO here now! I love the event planning (I do our Open Houses and any recruitment/student events), and admissions is pretty fun/insane too, with the three parts of the role, it's so busy, and always changing, love it! Student Services would be awesome too, they are in our 'building' (I say that in quotes as our current building is a pack of portables)....yay not enough space and what they do is also awesome and just as important as getting them in the door

Do you have good mat leave benefits where you are? I got topped up to 93% for the year, and we'll see if that public sector wage freeze happens

I just joined hellobee, so this is my first post....although I've been following the blog and boards for awhile now I am a mom to a four month old daughter. I am a teacher, but am taking this year off to stay home. I have already learned so much from this group and am looking forward to learning more (and sharing) as my daughter gets older.

I just joined Hellobee last month and really love the community so far! I'm 27 and DH is 28 and we've been married for just over a year after dating for five. We started TTC in October and the HB boards have been an amazing resource.

We live in Oregon where I work from home as an event planner and DH is a diesel mechanic. I love taking pictures, baking, reading blogs and I have a fierce Pinterest addiction We have a one year old doxie/chihuaua mix who is a totally spoiled fur-baby.

@ALIVOO01 @allison - I was JUST talking with someone about starting up a donut business in our small town!

@Beebug: Sorry - just saw your response now. I used to run all our open houses and events as well! We must have done the same job but at different institutions.

Wow - topped up to 93% for the year?! That is amazing. I get topped up to 95% but only for the first four months. I'm in an union with a collective agreement, so the wage freeze won't affect us at the moment

@Bao: Yep I'll join in! I just joined HB this evening (haha) but I've stalked it since getting pregnant. I found this glorious site through WB like many of you.

I'm 26, DH is 27. We're midwesterners too. I met DH 4 years ago and we've been married for a year and a half. He's in medical school, so I've followed him to another state for school (he keeps telling me he's my long term investment so I keep him around, lol). I work in finance, but it's not my ideal line of work.

I'm the first of my friends to get pregnant, so I don't really have many people IRL to talk to about all the lovely things that happen during pregnancy. Anyway, DH and I decided there was really no good time to start a family with his next few years in rotations/residency programs, so we threw caution to the wind and went for it. I figured it'd take 9 months to get pregnant, so imagine my surprise when it happened the 2nd month of trying. I'm currently 31 weeks, due in February with our first baby (girl!).

Hi! I just posted an intro post a couple of days ago.
I lurked for a long time after I found this site through weddingbee.

I'm 37 and my husband is 43. We live in the suburbs outside of Chicago. I stay at home and my husband works at the local newspaper. We met online in November of '09, moved in together in September of 2010, got engaged a couple of months later, married in May 2011 and welcomed our first child( a son, Luke) in May 2012! My husband likes to tell people that we moved so fast because we are old. Lol. We also have a 5 year old yellow lab named Chunk.

I had a pretty normal pregnancy (the whole Advanced Maternal Age label kind of freaked me out). I had one bleeding scare at 12 weeks and then we ended up in the ER on New Years Eve when I was 17 weeks thinking I was leaking fluid. I never did tell my husband this, but the day after we were there I remember spilling my glass of water in the couch. I sat down in that spot later and when I got up I thought I had leaked fluid. That was a really expensive( $500 for an ER visit!) example of my pregnany brain!

Six months in I finally feel like I'm getting into a groove staying home with my son. I had horrible breastfeeding pain up until about six weeks and I was just so hormonal with everything. There are still days that I go a little stir crazy at home, but I really love watching my little dude grow up and change so much!
    Here is current picture:

Well, my name is Lindsay. I am 30 years old from Western Canada. I have been with my hubby for 9 1/2 years and married for 2. We welcomed our daughter six months ago and has completely changed our lives. We also have two fur babies, a 100lb Malamute named Sako and a beagle named Sora.

Hello! Just joined HB a couple weeks ago so I'm very new! My husband and I have been together for about 4.5 years, married for 3 months. We are 30 and 32 (but feel like we are both 25 still). We live in CT and are gearing up to TTC next year. I'm a crazy researcher and I've been trying to learn as much as I can about the world of parenthood before we start trying. Nice to meet you all!! I have no good pics to post yet. Sorry!

Hi! I actually just joined a few days ago, but I've been following the blog and boards for almost a year... English is not my native language (and I haven't been living in an English-speaking country for a while...) that's why I hardly ever posted on WB and that's why I'll probably never/rarely post again here...
I love the community and the kindness (sorry, can't think of a better word right now) here, haven't found that on any site in my own language...

a tiny bit about me/us: I just turned 30, DH is 28, I'm a philosopher, he's a sociologist. We both work on our PhDs. We got married September 1st. Our wedding wasn't what we had dreamed of and I'm still working on getting over it... We both love doxies, good food and TV series (in original language, which is weird for most people here). I love all kinds of crafts, especially sewing, crocheting and baking. I love making up stories and writing that stuff down, when I find the time for it... and I enjoy all the graphic/art stuff... I also love ... (three dots) and not really ending the sentence...

We both have baby fever and would really like to start a family, but we're also both at a place in our careers where it seems impossible to do that. (although we might have tried once or twice for a happy accident...) we have a godson, two nieces and two nephews that we're spoiling meanwhile....

I'm really sorry for my weird and probably bad English....

@lil owl: Hello, you should really chime in more often, we would love to have you around, your English is perfect!!
