Lilly for Target...site crashing.

I kinda hate myself doe carrying about this AT ALL. But I really wanted the high waisted bikini swim suit (cover some stretch marks, yo). And palazzo pants (seemed like good "I want to wear pajamas to the park" clothes.) I couldn't fall asleep because I was watching the website, so now I'm exhausted. But I went to the store this morning around 9, and got the pants. Which look ridiculous but are comfortable. It was me and an old woman buying stuff, haha. I also got the juicer (thought about the giraffe bottle opener but it was kinda big.) I always feel guilty about impulse purchases. The bright side about living in Montana is no one was there, the downside was they only had a few things! Which was fine, the swimsuit was the only thing I wanted.

Anyone have good recommendations for a high waisted bikini? (Closer to target prices than lilly prices.)

Haha I'm sorry but I didn't realize people were going so gaga over this! I can't imagine standing in line for anything!

I'm not really into Lilly (it's cute! Just not my style) but um tempted to drive by my Target just to see if there are any crazies.

    @youboots: I wanted that dress

I got this for DD (I eish I could steal it and once again I will be jealous of my daughters clothes).

And one thing for me but I will probably return because I don't like spaghetti straps.

What in the world is this anyway?! I must not be cool...

@Bao: it's resort/prep wear. Loved by sorority girls everywhere. It usually costs 5-10x more than what it's being sold for at Target, which is why people are freaking out about it. I would not even really call it that cool, I love it because it's festive. It's not for everyone.

Man, this sure was an anticipated event. LP is a little too cruise ship for me, but I'm hoping my local Target restocks the swimsuits, soon. I'd love the pink one for summer; what a cute cut.

We were visiting our ILs and my MIL and I went at about 9:30am. The adult section was very picked over and didn't have my size left but we got the following in 2T. It runs pretty big and the pink dress is even bigger on LO than the blue dress. I was just going to return it but if any of you would like it let me know

EDIT: The pink dress is now spoken for

@youboots: are you from the south originally? My friend out here who is also from VA is the only other person I know who cares about this, haha. It wasn't my style when I lived there, but now I wanted some fun summery stuff, especially with our dreary Montana springs!

I got to Target around 9 am and women's was really picked over. Toddler stuff still had a lot. I stalked the dressing room and found the 2 pieces I wanted so I could match DD. I sized up for her hoping she can wear this summer and next summer. I really wanted some shorts for myself but couldn't find any in my size.

@jedeve: nope. I can't remember where I heard about it first. My sorority or Rent the Runway. I would never buy it at the full price store- so this was my first LP purchase. I'm with you. Fun summertime clothing is what I was looking for. So many of my existing clothes are not good for nursing. I spent less than $100- same price for similar items at the Gap- I call it a win.

I was up last night trying to buy stuff but I couldn't check out! I stopped in at Target at 10, but there was nothing left: 3 items in women's, 3 in girls and 1 in toddlers! Can't believe how little stock there was.

I got to my local store right before they opened and waited for everyone to run in! I headed to the girls section and got a few things for my daughter. The entire store was picked over by 8:05. I don't think the employees were prepared for this!
If anyone is buying stuff online (ebay etc) just know that the toddler stuff runs big! My daughter is tall and wears a 2T and the dresses are really long.

    cantaloupe / 6669 posts

@brady80: Yes, the toddler clothes run REALLY big. I was disappointed because 2T was the smallest size. I am going to try to shrink it in the dryer because it's all 100% cotton. Maybe she will get to wear it toward the end of the summer... Or even in the spring next year.

Yup, I live on Cape Cod and there were several people on Facebook complaining that there was nothing. We have one target within like an hour so they should have known!!! But, as a proud Cape Codder who has never worn anything Lily (even when I was young with cash to spend) I didn't get the hype so much.

@brady80: @daniellemybelle: I'm so bummed about the fit! My LO wears a 2T but all I could get was a 3T in the dresses (same two you got @daniellemybelle: ) and considering she is below the 5% for height, they are SO long. I'm considering hemming one but other than that, nothing I can do I guess.

I just went to target for lightbulbs and our display is pretty much intact, maybe a few things purchased! I'm not sure what percentage of Montanans even know what Lily Pulitzer is!

I might swing by the store at lunch, they have one in town here and it's not exactly the prep capital of the world, so I think it shouldn't be that picked over.

I think the shoes and jewlery are really cute, but I am not so sold on the clothes yet.

I got to my Target at 10am yesterday and there was not one thing left save for some votives. There were also stations outside where
I assumed people lined up before the store opened. I didn't even think it would be THAT
    Popular at this particular Target!

I think it's annoying people went and bought out store and are now listing things at ridiculous prices on eBay. I get capitalism, but it feels greedy.

@BandDmommy: ITA. I saw people sweeping whole armfuls of stuff into their carts, not even looking at size. Obviously they're just going to sell on eBay. So lame.

All you Target online and in store shoppers made CNN

Shoppers go wild for Lilly Pulitzer at Target

My Target at 3 pm yesterday didn't even sold out of the nail polish.

I'm starting to wonder if this was just some big marketing scam. Release just enough items so that the hype is there, but I wonder if they will restock or what. The radio was discussing it this morning and it turns out a lot of people aren't familiar with the brand, and it got me thinking that maybe this was a ploy to get people familiar with it!

I really liked the halter top for $22 (it legitimately looked pretty darn full coverage, plus wasn't fitted in the waist....) but i'm not paying above retail for freaking Target stuff, by any means.

  34. BandDmommy

    pomelo / 5660 posts

@blackbird: agree 100%. I am not paying prime for target brand. It's funny in some pics on eBay you can see the price they paid and it is way LESS than what it's listed for.

  35. looch

    wonderful pear / 26210 posts

@BandDmommy: yeah, why not just buy the regular LP stuff at that point?

  36. blackbird

    wonderful grape / 20453 posts

@BandDmommy: I generally find that practice a huge turn off. I see it with diapers and all kinds of stuff and i'm just like.....no, that's stupid. I'm not buying into that ON PURPOSE!

I was curious but Ebay keeps crashing for me.

@mrskc: That is gonna be SO cute! And what a good idea to stalk the dressing rooms!

  38. MrsSCB

    pomelo / 5257 posts

@blackbird: you might be right about it being some kind of marketing scheme. Because they seemed to hype this up soooo much more than other designer target collections I've seen. I thought it was weird, because there have been collaborations with much higher end designers and they didn't sell out the first day or even few days. And this did in like 10 minutes! So weird. I don't know, maybe this is why I'm not a savvy businesswoman

  39. jedeve

    pomegranate / 3643 posts

@blackbird: oh I think it's definitely about brand building for both companies. Target becomes known as a place not just for store brand cheap clothing. Lilly Pulitzer (which is a well established brand, first popularized by Jacqueline Kennedy) probably has an aging clientele gets more attention among young consumers. LP probably wanted to limit the stock so as to leave plenty of room in the market for their higher end merchandise.

I'm guessing Target might've underestimated people's interest in reselling, since the price point for LP isn't *that* much higher than these prices (definitely a lot higher - I'm not going to spend $200 on a dress). But the profit margin for eBay sellers is probably not as high as they think it will be. So I'm guessing sellers will either make low margins or get stuck with merchandise (on the whole, stuff will probably sell will in the next day or two). Since stock was so limited, there's no opportunity for the market to correct itself though. But for the businesses, there's no real downside. I doubt that the sorority girls threatening to boycott will last long.

@OhCaptain: I'm a Montanan too!! Yeah, it's so not a thing here. Our store didn't get dresses or swimsuits. Things Montanans don't wear?

@PrincessBaby: haha! Dang, that one lady who's laid out on her lawn....For real though, the ebay sh*t makes me so mad.

    @OhCaptain: oh man!

I honestly can't remember how or when I started liking Lilly. I just love the beachy vibe.

Happy for those who got a good score though! (The fair way.)
