Anyone use a machine thing to make baby food? I only know of the Brezza which steams and purées but I know there are others out there. Recommendations?

I used my food processor and my microwave. After seeing the Breeza I could see why people would use it but the microwave/food processor worked for us!

@mediagirl: We have a nutribullet so I'm trying to see if I can make that work. What did you use the microwave for?

I'm sure they're convenient, but I think they're a waste of money. I've made baby food for both my kiddos and use an immersion blender and steamer basket I already owned. Easy to use and clean and cheap.

@LindsayInNY: to steam the food first before chopping it up. Like - sweet potatoes.

I loved my Beaba. It was easy to use since it was smaller than a typical blender.

I used a Beaba for my first 2. It was convenient! I kind of want to upgrade, but not sure it'll be worth the cost since I could always just use a regular steamer and we do BLW for the most part...

microwave, blender, and ice cube trays over here. I made 5 gallon bags of food cubes in like 20 minutes (plus freezing time.)

I bought one but found that it was more trouble than it was worth, and it made such small batches, so I returned it and just steamed or baked veggies, pureed them in the blender, and froze them in ice cube trays.

@mediagirl: @Mrs. Lion: I'm dumb... How do you steam things in the microwave?
hostess / wonderful persimmon / 25556 posts
@LindsayInNY: stab a few holes in the sweet potato, toss it in there for a few minutes until soft. I steam veggies all the time in the microwave. Put them in a bowl, add a little water, cover with saran wrap, microwave for a few minutes.

I used a baby Brezza but I think it would have been just as easy with a microwave and blender

@LindsayInNY: I'm even lazier than @mediagirl: I put it in a glass bowl, add a bit of water (not much at all) and microwave until hot. pour into blender, add a bit more water, then blend. more water will thin it more depending on desired consistency.

I invested in s Cuisinart food processor - it was a great excuse to get something I had been wanting for a while!

I have a double Beaba which is really awesome but I wouldn't have bought it if it had t have been a gift. It's great being able to steam and purée in the same container. However, purées are only needed for a short period - we are already starting to phase out at 8.5 months. So if you have a food processor or immersion blender you could microwave or stove top steam and then blend.

We got an immersion blender. Then we can use it for other things after baby food!

We use our immersion blender. I love that thing and use it daily for other things besides baby food.

I just used my food processor. I didn't see the need for anything fancy in my small kitchen.

I had a Beaba. I was living abroad, had the tiniest fridge known to mankind, no microwave, no food processor and I was looking for a solution where I didn't have to wash a lot of extra pieces and since we were moving back to the US eventually I didn't want to invest in a lot of appliances, so the Beaba turned out to be a complete lifesaver. I used it so much, I would even steam vegetables for my husband and I in it.
I really find it's the best solution if you're going to cook small amounts at every meal. If you're going to cook and then freeze, the Beaba isn't your best option.

I use my magic bullet. I have some silicone baby food thing. I only do the easy foods, in bulk. Like squash and sweet potatoes

I used a vegetable steamer (like this one: http://www.crateandbarrel.com/vegetable-steamer-with-feet/s545589?b=1?affiliate=1552&campaignid=206595536&adgroupid=13838805176&targetid=kwd-75700726016&adpos=1o1&creative=44897459456&device=c&matchtype=&network=g&gclid=CLzJiaOOsckCFYkdgQod8ywFWA), and then my food processor. Worked great.

I just boiled or microwaved veggies in a little water until soft and most often used the little food chopper attachment of my immersion blender or my $30 little 4 cup Cuisinart food processor. I didn't really like making huge batches of food at once and bought pouches to mix it up.

We have the beaba babycook, and it works great for small batches and reheating but, when I would make large batches I would use my large steamer and blender. But it is nice for conviniently warming food instead of microwaving it (I don't like using the microwave) I only wished I had bought the larger model that holds more food.

We used a hand me down Beaba. So glad we didn't buy anything b/c we only did like 2-3 weeks of purree and went into BLW instead.

@LindsayInNY: I use an ice cube tray and then transfer to a zip lock bag when they are frozen.

@LindsayInNY: supposedly! I've never measured and personally don't keep track of ounces of purees but that's what I have heard!
grapefruit / 4903 posts
@LindsayInNY: I freeze in the Kiddo Feedo containers. 2 oz each, a lid, and easy to get the food out. I had a Beaba tray with my first and it was fine but had fewer molds per tray. I freeze in those and then move them to ziplocs to store. I use the Squooshi reusable pouches for serving.
