@pui: It sound like your ovulation could have been delayed this cycle for one reason or another.

If you were to get your period today, on say CD44, then you would have had to have ovulated somewhere around CD28-34. That would be March 4-8. If you haven't still gotten AF, you may have been having unprotected sex into your fertile window. Or if you're about to ovulate, then unprotected sex could be during your FW.

Does your CM and any other symptoms line up with your past experience around O time? It might be worth taking an HPT in the next few days just in case, and maybe even OPKs (if you use those) to see what's going on.

Could you start tracking your BBT and see how it compares to your "normal" temps before and after O?

@pui: First piece of advice, if you see EWCM, make sure you're having sex every other day or so! Also, since your cycle has been so long, you may want to check your cervix position too, as its a good indicator of impending O if its high, soft and open.

I'm with those who are struggling with FB... One girl in particular has started posting whiney updates about her pregnancy and the snark in me wants to tell her to be glad she's pregnant at all.

@lindsayinnyc: you are making me consider charting! I swore I wouldn't get that neurotic about it.... But maybe...

  5. LindsayInNY

    bananas / 9229 posts

@SweetMamaM: I didn't plan on charting initially because I thought I'd regulate fairly quickly off BC and that the whole TTC process would take no time (hah, so naive!). Little did I know that I wouldn't be having 28 days cycles... Thing is, I think once you commit to BDing EOD, you kinda become neurotic about it. TTC as a whole is a neurotic thing. I don't know how I'd even go about NTNP! It was only after 3 weeks of negative OPKs did I decide to start charting so I could confirm I was at least Oing. This might be a lucky first chart, but it's so exact it's eerie! http://www.fertilityfriend.com/home/41e301/ <-- you can see exactly where my temp went up post-O and then today it dropped. I'm guessing AF will be here in full force tomorrow. I don't know how long you've been TTC but I think charting really gets you in tune with your body without staring at CM intently everyday or checking cervix position.

    pear / 1743 posts

@LindsayInNYC: four/five months, with getting positive OPKs apart from my Dec long cycle and last month after the spotting. I was OPKing since coming off BCP eight/nine months ago and was pretty regular at first.
I do agree with you though, I'm fairly neurotic about the whole thing anyway so it's probably not going to make too much difference. I'm barely human first thing in the morning so I think I'll struggle to remember.

  7. LindsayInNY

    bananas / 9229 posts

@SweetMamaM: Yeah, the morning timing is definitely keep. I have some temperatures that are accurate but show up as iffy on my chart (an unfilled circle) because I took it at 6:30 a.m. instead of 5:30 a.m. So it's definitely precise!

@SweetMamaM: charting has really helped me figure out my cycles. I didn't even have to POAS because my temps dropped before my period.

@sweetmamam: I am with you, I didn't want to get obsessed with temping. I think I'm going to go one more cycle (3rd off BC) with just opks and cm and then maybe I'll temp. I know it tells you a lot but I'm afraid I'll get too obsessed and stressed!

So I went to the chiropractor today and she diagnosed me with a sprained pelvis - something that I may have had for up to nine years. She thinks that the inflammation this has caused in my pelvis has a large amount to do with my peculiar cycles, especially seeing my hormones are testing normal. It's also helping to fix my lower back pain and stiff shoulders - a bit bloody sore to fix though.
No kidding, I think seeing the chiropractor may have actually changed my life.

Wow - I haven't been on in awhile (I hate posting from my phone, and we're switching internet providers) and so much has changed!! Congrats to all of our November mamas

I'm a rollover for April, unfortunately. We had been BD EOD, and then DH got sick so we missed a few days. Of course, that was when I Oed! It reminded me of @LindsayInNYC.

I'm excited to join the April board!

@Emsmems: I'm the same way about temping. Plus dh is really against it for the moment. But with such irregular cycles, it really is the best way to track ovulation. We'll see how the next few months go I guess!

@Sweetmamam: @Emsmems: @Pirouette: My DH was also against temping, but I went ahead with it anyway. Maybe I am a bit obsessive about it, but I think I'm less stressed than I would be if I had less of an idea what was going on with my body. So it's been good for me overall.

DH has no idea that I do temp, because he sleeps right through it. I did revisit the issue with him later on and gently explained why it was important to me to do it and what the benefit was, and he was more okay with it.

I just don't involve him in any aspect of my temping or talk about it with him so I don't appear obsessed. It makes it seem like a more casual activity, and it's made him more comfortable with the idea.

@SweetMamaM: Wow, that is amazing news about the chiropractor! Odd question, but, how does one sprain a pelvis??

  18. Pirouette

    pomegranate / 3331 posts

@Lately: that's interesting. i certainly wouldn't share the details of it with DH or involve him in the temping process, but how do you temp without him knowing? haha, your DH must be a heavy sleeper, because i feel like mine would definitely hear the beeping! my doc told me she wants to see me after 2 more cycles to discuss my options (assuming no BFP), and DH wanted to wait a little longer trying naturally, so maybe if it's a way to put off doc intervention so soon, he'll be more open to it. of course, as you point out, it has nothing to do with him, and it's not like he doesn't already hear my alarm, so what's the big deal?

I also don't think he's worried about me being crazy about it, i just don't think he fully understands temping, like what it does and why i want to do it, he just thinks of it as timing BD i think, which is not at all what it's about. Maybe he thinks i'll only want to BD when my temp says so, haha!

  19. marionberry

    pomelo / 5041 posts

@Lately: My dh always thought I was crazy temping and letting it tell me if I was pregnant but over time he started to trust it too and ask me charting questions. While charting didn't get me pregnant, on our iui cycle it's what told us I could be pregnant before the test did. I was addicted to it but I would not go back and do something different.

  20. Lately

    cherry / 131 posts

@Pirouette: I see temping as still trying "naturally". Maybe my DH was upset by the idea of planning out sex or taking a scientific approach to TTC, but the truth is that temping won't give you any advance warning of ovulation. It can only tell you when it has happened already.

I think that was how I broke through to my DH. I explained that after having my ovulation suppressed for 12 years by BCP, it was a way of checking up on my body to see whether it was doing what it needed to do for us to conceive. He probably found that a lot less threatening or invasive.

I really do love temping. I am thrilled by the crosshairs that showed up on my chart this morning. Highlight of my day so far.

  21. Lately

    cherry / 131 posts

@marionberry: I think I'm even looking forward to having a heads up if I'm going to get my period thanks to temping! Of course I would rather be pregnant, but I'll take what I can get.

And if addicted = needing to do it every day, then I am shamelessly addicted to temping.

  22. ShootingStar

    coconut / 8472 posts

@marionberry: @Lately: My DH wasn't all that big into the temping and OPKing and everything when we first started either. I think he thought I was going overboard and that we just needed to have sex and we'd be fine. My plan was to OPK until I got a positive to confirm that I was O-ing after BC. Only I never got a positive. So then I started temping. Still nothing. Turned out I have PCOS and wasn't ovulating.

Guys just don't get it. They don't do the research we do, and they don't always know all the details (CM, fertile days, etc.)

  23. Pirouette

    pomegranate / 3331 posts

@Lately: this is excellent advice, thank you! i think maybe after this month i'll discuss it with him more specifically. i think he needs to understand what temping is and why it is important for someone like me that has a history of not ovulating. And, especially since i'm not totally clear if i'm ovulating or not. My doc thinks i'm not, which is why she wants to jump to Clomid, but I may propose that we try temping for a month or two first and see if we can detect if something is going on there! And you are right, i need to explain that temping won't tell me when to BD (so we can still do that as much as we like!) but will tell me if my body is functioning properly

@MrsCB: exactly. and they just think that temping is some crazy thing that women do on TV shows and stuff (like when they tell their husbands they can only BD once and it's a 1 hour window)! I think my DH is just hoping that we can just BD a lot and get knocked up, but doesn't understand that that's not possible unless i'm Oing.

  24. LindsayInNY

    bananas / 9229 posts

@amreis: I think we could've "forced" BD while he was sick but he was miserable! And I would hate to look back and remember conceiving our first (and possibly only) child while *that* ill. Not too romantic!

  25. ShootingStar

    coconut / 8472 posts

@Pirouette: Just an FYI, you still may not O on Clomid. I'm what's called "Clomid resistant". I would highly suggest that you do a monitored cycle if you do Clomid, not just have an OB give you an rx and say good luck.

  26. amreis

    cherry / 143 posts

@LindsayInNYC: Us, too! I agree about remembering back. When I told DH that I had O'd and that Friday would have been the perfect night, I think he actually felt bad. Then I felt bad for telling him!

  27. LindsayInNY

    bananas / 9229 posts

@amreis: I'm a mix of "we plan our own destiny" and "God has a plan for us." This cycle would've meant a Thanksgiving due date. My cousin is getting married in Arizona (I'm in NY) the weekend before. So, now I can go to her wedding! Based on my late O, if next cycle is our lucky one, I'm looking at an end of December to end of January due date. Perfect!

  28. Pirouette

    pomegranate / 3331 posts

@MrsCB: interesting! i don't know much about it yet (was planning on consulting Dr. Google over the next 2 months, haha) but I didn't know you could be "clomid resistant!" i mean, i know it doesn't work for everyone, but i don't really know enough about it to understand why not. i know it doesn't work if you have problems with your fallopian tubes or something blocking, but beyond that i'm clueless!

I think my doc wanted to do monitoring, because she talked a lot about working together to get me to O, but i didn't know enough about it to ask the right questions. since this was more of a preliminary conversation during my annual appt, we didn't discuss all the details. If my doc refused to do monitoring, i guess I'd look for an RE to work with, but i think my doc would monitor assuming she has the equipment to do so onsite (she's a GYN, so maybe not?).

@doxielove: we think probably when I had a scooter accident in 2004, coincidentally also the year I got diagnosed with PCOS. At the time my knee was the major concern but looking back at my abdomen X-ray from the time I can actually see the joint stretching already. Crazy right?

Am so bleeping sore today though, holy heck. Not entirely sure how I'm going to get through a day of teaching, not a big fan of painkillers.
