I'm sorry for your loss and that you're going through this. I had retained tissue after my D&C. In my case, my bleeding went away after a few days and then about 2 weeks later, I got severe pain (like miscarrying again) and tons of bleeding. I came in for an ultrasound and they saw the tissue but determined it looked like there wasn't too much left, so they told me I could go home without anything further. It took another week for it to totally pass. They said that if there had been more, they would have suggested that I have a second D&C. So other than the scary part about bleeding a second time and having to go back in for another ultrasound, mine wasn't so bad. Hopefully it will pass soon and easily for you, too.

@LaughLines: Not exactly the same but I had retained tissue after a D&C. I felt fine the first couple of days and then one morning had contractions so strong and painful I couldn't speak through them and I was vomiting. I was passing clots as big as my fist. The on call OB told me to go to the ER. On the way there I passed another huge clot and the pain decreased. I ended up passing it all on my own but had I not they would have done another D&C as retained tissue can be dangerous (infection).
So if they do see any retained tissue they may recommend a D&C to clean it out. I was told that even the tiniest speck of tissue is recognized by our bodies and can create the massive reaction my body had.
All that being said, I don't think 11 days bleeding after a natural MC is abnormal. But the tissue you're seeing is probably what they are concerned with along with a STRONG positive test.
If you have any D&C questions feel free to ask. I've had two (the one I mentioned above and one a few months before that).

I'm so sorry for your loss, the complications feel like a kick while you're down.

I hope you get some answers. I stopped bleeding about 5 or 6 days after my natural miscarriage then started spotting/bleeding again at the two week mark and was still getting positives. I went back in at three weeks out for an ultrasound and bloodwork. No retained tissue and HCG was almost gone. I'm two months out now and things seem back to normal. All this to say, hopefully this if a just a crappy variation of "normal" for you like it was for me.

@LaughLines: Check on how long you have to wait to ttc if you take the drug. I friend took misoprosal (spelling?) and had to wait at least 3 months.

I had a miscarriage and scheduled a d&c that went fine. Two days later, I spiked a 106 fever and ended up in the ER, where I was diagnosed with retained tissue as the cause of my infection. I got a subsequent d&c the next morning and was physically fine after that.

@LaughLines: I took misoprostol (also called cytocec) for my first miscarriage and they only asked that I wait one cycle before starting to try again, not 3 (I actually ended up getting pregnant with my LO 3 cycles later). Hope it works quickly so you can heal soon.

@LaughLines: Hope you're doing ok. When I had a mc last year, I also took cytotec. I had to do three rounds of it which sucked. HCG stayed in my system for 5 weeks and I had to keep having repeat scans for retained tissue. I was trying to avoid a D&C. I got my period back after 7 weeks. It was a long drawn out process but they said I could start trying again right away and we were pregnant about 4 months later. Best wishes to you.
