Does anyone have an lo with a missing baby tooth?
Lo has all of his teeth except for his 2year molars and one lower incisor. He got the rest of his incisors about 6 months ago, all at once. I am starting to wonder if he just doesnt have one. My understanding is that if they dont have a baby tooth then the permanent one cant develop either.
Anyone have experience with this? Should i take him to a pediatric dentist? Is there anything they can do?

How old is your LO? My LO is about 25 months old and still is showing no signs of 2 year molars so I was wondering about this too.

If he is really missing his primary tooth a permanent tooth bud can still develop! Don't worry!
Lateral incisors are one of the most common missing or malformed teeth in the mouth. A pediatric dentist should be able to snap a quick xray to see if the primary tooth is there. You may not be able to see a permanent tooth forming yet, though.

@yellowbird: oh that is great news! At what age will it be safe to do an xray? And should i send my dh with him to the dentist since i am pregnant and cant be exposed?
Also, is it possible that it is there but growing in at an angle that would push his other teeth? If so, what would they do about that?

@BelugaBean: lo is only 18 months! I know he is still in the normal range to get it, but it seems really weird that he got his molars and canines so much sooner

My LO didn't have 2 year molars until he was about 2.5! He was extremely slow to teeth though, he only had 10 or so teeth by 18 months.

@Mrs. Lion: my boys are 20 months and neither of them have either lower lateral incisor.

@Mrs. Lion: I would send your dh because he will probably have to hold him on his lap for the xray. The xray is safe now. It's such a small amount of radiation that it isn't harmful. It may be angled, but that is more rare for a primary tooth. The xray should let you see that. If it angled they probably won't do anything to correct it but just wait for him to start losing teeth when he's 6 or so.

@Mrs. Lion: my LO totally missed the window for upper incisors and skipped to the next tooth. A good six months after the window they finally came in.
