Do you ever notice that when you get home at the end of the day your LO likes a little alone time?? As much as I want to play and interact with my LO sometimes I have to get things done when we first get home (changes my clothes, prep her dinner, etc) and I swear she really enjoys having a little quiet time to herself after being surrounded by people at day care all day. Does any one else notice that?

Nope, I wish!! She is always starving and following me around right under my feet waiting to be fed. I'd love to have some quiet time to get dinner ready.

Nope! She clings to me until late in the evening when she's decompressed.

I think she does - on our drive home we chat some, but after a few minutes of talking she wants to hold my hand and is quiet

No, he pretty much glues himself to my side. Lately he even wants to eat dinner sitting in my lap. Earlier tonight he pushed my plate away, moved his over in front of me and then climbed into my lap to eat. It's sweet and all, but I wish he would want a few minutes alone so we can both decompress!

Xander is wicked clingy right after daycare! But he doesn't seem to mind alone time on the weekends!

DH tells me that sometimes, she doesn't want to play with him at all and will push him away. I don't get home until a couple hours later

DS1 totally does this, but I think because he wants to poop in peace

Nope, she follows me around and demands dinner as soon as we get home.

I think my son definitely likes a little down time. He typically wants to go straight inside and he will pull out his toys and will play by himself for a bit.

No, my cling-on and I are essentially inseparable until bedtime.

Haha. Nope! He is do excited to see me. Then I'm the entertainment committee until bedtime. I don't mind.

Nope, she's pretty glued to me until after dinner when she gets into taking care of her baby dolls... then she gets pretty distracted by that! She has a lot of high maintenance babies, lol!
@yellowbird: how are your drop offs going? My LO is STILL crying most days when I leave. Overall, I think it's gotten a little better, but it's still really hard to hear her cry and scream.

@78h2o: my dh got a new job and he's now doing all drop offs and I do all pick ups. She still cries mostly every day when he drops her off, but some days she'll just run away and go play. I thought she'd be over it by now, but I think she's just super clingy. That's just how it's going to be. I'm glad I'm not doing it anymore, but I do always call him to see how it went and it's sad

My toddler isn't in daycare, but my mom loves to remind me about how when I was in preschool I would come home every day complaining about how loud the other kids were, and would tell her I just needed some peace and quiet, and would go to my room and shut the door while she cooked dinner, lol.

@wonderstruck: I wonder if this is the beginnings of showing introverted-ness or extroverted-ness for the kids who like to have some alone time? Are you an introvert?

@sunny: Yes, I definitely am - I think that very well could be an early sign! Makes sense since most of us introverts need some alone time to recharge after social stuff.

Sometimes my son is like that. He goes off to his toy corner and plays quietly after a full day. But, he doesn't get upset if I try to play with him, he just doesn't follow me around always.

DS isn't in daycare but he's with a nanny two days/week and they often have play dates/classes, etc during the day. I do find that he usually wants to be with me right away, but then wanders off on his own to play for a while. It's nice because it gives me a chance to get dinner ready for DH and I and then we still have an hour or so to spend together before he goes to bed. This just recently started around 22 months though.

Definitely not my boys! They want either to play outside or if we go inside, they immediately want to be fed dinner.

No, I wish. My son is usually all over me or my husband when we get him. He is 21 months.

NO, she clings to me when I'm trying to cook dinner! I try to have her "help" or she "cooks" on the floor when I'm cooking.

Yes! My DS heads straight upstairs, and turns on his Thomas train and watches it go round and round on the track for a long time to unwind...

I have had both experiences - When DS was a toddler he did not want alone time - I would be making dinner with him on my hip pretty much every single night! But my DD will sometimes go straight to the playroom or art center when we get home and do her own thing
